Yep their were heaps of more deserving acheivements, noticable missing was the success on independants on the internet.... even in the nominations e.g. Overseas acheivement, one would would have thought dance acts DNE getting programmed on MTVEurope, was worthy of a nomination..... (but you have to be nominated by a major/indie distributed through one)....Interesting that Rodger Fox Big band took out the Jazz album when The Chris Mason Battely Group has earned over US$30,000 payback for playback (equal to NZ$68,000) on MP3.COM for thousands of international downloads and sales...I would think that was also worthy of international acheivement as well.

Their are many great bands out of NZ......the only thing that makes the Fur patrols and Zeds different is the money sunk into them by majors.

You can make any shit a hit f you pump enough money, payola and media control at it !!

Thank God for the internet and for the likes of MP3.com putting the power back into the hands of the artist.

If your a muso would you rather have a Tui award and owe your record company shit load of money or earn thousands on MP3.com for a site that took you a few hours to set up !!!

If those award winning acts are so Damn hot.... how come none of them are known outside NZ ??

Zed went triple platinum within NZ within less than a year of release - thats 45,000 people who thought it was a good album and I don't think they all work for RIANZ. I hear there's a few people over in the US who are quite keen on Zed too.
and then there's Fur Patrol - you obviously weren't at the big day out when 30,000 people sung along to Lydia.
Oh and Shihad not worthy of international acheivement???? They not only featured in Rolling Stone fequently but graced the cover for their "Best of 2000" issue for Best Rock album I believe, Then were nominated for ARIAS, something that hasn't happened since the days of Crowded House.

All this bitterness just makes me sick. If you don't like the RIANZ awards, do your own, get constructive, support the b-nets I dunno! just relaaaaaax a bit no one is going to find their opinions represented 100% of the time

My complaint is: where the hell are awards for electronic music???? The Jews Brothers Band get nominated for best folk act, but such luminaries as Denver McCarthy are ignored. No justice I tell ya.

yeah where was the electronica awards? the b.nets have a well balanced rock, electronica, hip hop, dj, broadcasting/magazine range of awards - but overall they are also equally flawed. Basically awards and radio play does not yet seem to represent what NZers listen to, watch, and love when they have the choice.
