Po-ha

This is the general discussion forum for Po-ha

Forums: Bands,

I was at the mighty valve on sat night to witness the aural master-strokes of the po-ha in full motion. This would have easily been *the* best i've seen em, not that they they're not up to scratch usually (far, far from it), but on sat night they were 'in the zone', kicking ass and asking for more. The Po-ha sound clearly benefits from good sound engineering and definition. The Valve accoustics and sound provided the perfect canvas for their musical genius. Well done Mikey! These boys are on form, and sounding brilliant. Come on wellington, theres a good thang on ya doorstep. Worth every cent!

I agree, it sounded great. Liked the song the guitarist sang. ;)~

Saw Po-Ha last night at the Temple in Auckland and boy I tell you what, they are getting better every single time they play. The crowd didn't know what had hit them. They're a much tighter live unit now and their new songs are simply awesome-they blew me right away. Can't wait for their next gig and if anyone reads this, make sure you check them out before they really explode onto the scene.
Righto.

Hi ;)

Just starting a rumour... these boys will be doing some recording before the end of the year, hopefully releasing a 7" limited edition double A-side with 'Best Day,' and 'What I'm Waiting For,' to be followed up by a 6 track ep, tentatively called "I Can't Help The Way You Feel."
They will be playing at Bar Bodega in Wellington on November 30 supporting the CD release for Rhesus, I wouldn't miss the chance to hear some of their new material live, it's so much more groovy, loud, prickly, smooth... I guess more 'Po-ha' than their old set!

but don't tell anyone, eh?! ;)
-with respect,

Everybody loves Po-Ha!!

well..

at least,

I do.

Hey, see that blonde one in the front of the photo?

He's a nice boy, I've met his Mother.

http://go.to/jamieostrich ]

Caught po-ha play at indigo last night with slim and mesculine. Po-ha continue to prove themselves as wellington's premier rock-masters with stomping tunes like "best day", "waiting for", and "magnitude" that feature vocals that stand the hair up on the back of your neck!

Cant wait for that limited Ed. 7 inch with the first two aforementioned songs.

ROCK!

Hey there,

Whole bunch of new songs coming at ya soon. We be taking a wee break while I get married (YAY!), but we'll come back with a new set and lots of yummy treats I know you love. Best quality, supercharged, guarranteed!

Lots of love,

Hideeho!
The dudes at NZM.com have obviously neglected to add a po-ha track, so that members might proclaim it as being a favourite (of course) so here's a URL to download Several Steps Away at Guitar.Com

Did I say 'wee break' before?

What I meant to say was Bodega, 8th of March with Vocoder and Mescaline... sheeeeesh.

Much love,

. . . and, as if the first Wellie shows by these bands for 4 months isn't enough, this "Rock-O-Tronic!" Shindig is being recorded FOR A POSSIBLE LIVE RELEASE! and it won't be one of those boring, sterile "soundboard" recordings either . . . this'll put you right in the room! you'll be able to hear instruments being thrown around, glasses clinking, people fighting over whether "Slanted and Enchanted" or "Crooked Rain . . ." is better, heckling, cheering EVERYTHING! (. . . and if doesn't come through on the numerous mikes we'll have around the place . . . we'll stage it . . . ; ) )

Mescaline's site- way cool!

New Songs!

We've started work on four new ones, ranging in mood from firey and euphoric, to grandiose and epic, to percussive and moody, to droning and hypnotic. Typically Josh has been coming up with impassioned lyrics and melodies, but Aaron's drumming has become the hub of the songwriting process, especially on songs like 'slowly' and 'nothing left to say (new one).' It's great to be in a band! ;)

2002 thus far in PO-HA - a short synopsis: Bodega; Temple; Bodega; A self-storage garage; a marriage; the panties; pre-production (po-fi; supercharged); a jet-setting bass player; new songs; fridge magnets.
we're playing with hooster this friday at indigo ... we've only just begun... to liiiiiiiiiive...

What a cool night that was! Such a good room. The signs are all pointing towards the triumphant ressurection of rock!

my name joachim of Germany and I love the kiwi music and especially love the Po-Ha music of that it so loud and brutal. I very young and vilely is am and will make you will love me.

Hey there Chistchurch people,

Hooster have invited us down to Christchurch for a show this Saturday night, the 12th of October at the Dux- we're dragging Virgil along cos we think they rock.
So come on down, we've been dying to play the SI massive and this will be our first ever show down your way- you'll never ever have another chance to say :"I was there when Po-ha played their first gig at the Dux!" or "Yeah, Po-ha are OK, but they were better in the old days- like that Dux gig in '02"

Word

-FOETUS

Hey there,

We all felt a bit weird using Hooster's gear- obviously it just didn't sound like us, and there was an climatisation period for us before things started warming up... in the end I can only say it was wicked!

Don't listen to Virgil- they did bloody well. Set highlights for me were 'Big Joe' and 'So Long,' there was so much heart in the vocals, and Pete's drumming was flawless- put Helmet's Paul Stanyer to shame. Po-ha's set definitely warmed to a boil- Aaron tried playing a couple of songs a little slower than normal, and 'Precious' never sounded so fat as a result! Hooster rallied the home town crowd and played their brand of old-school, four on the floor rock and roll- fresh from recording they were sounding tight as ever. Who was that guy on stage with the digital camera? A good end to a good night. Thanks to Cheryl, Alice and Cynth for starting the Christchurch division of Po-ha Central- it meant a lot to me hear you say that you thought we were crap untill you heard us play! Now that you're converted we'll have to get some stuff down to you- cd's, etc...

Thankyou Springton, and goodnight... there will be no encore...

Hey there Poha boys, its James here from Rhesus.
Well we've managed to resurrect ourselves after an eon of mucking around and we were wondering if you guys would like to hook up a gig sometime? I can't find ya e-mail address so NZmusic will have to do.
Drop us a line sometime at rhesusband@hotmail.com
Cheers guys, look forward to catching up with ya.

Yo peeps-

We're really close to getting the first single finished, we've finished mixing and the mastering will be completed within the next few days... we're all really impressed at how slick it's sounding, especially since it's been 100% DIY !

There's a show pencilled in for the 30th of November at The Cross with Chopper and Vocoder... You should come along, James, we'll catch up properly! Untill then it's quite a busy time for us (recordings to complete, etc.), but the summer could be an go- Napier, Palmy, N.Plymouth, etc. clocking up some K's!

-Peace

New website!

Check it out, a lot of hours have gone in to it- let us know what you think.

Two songs (pre-mastering sound quality) are available for download from the site, including Best Day and What I'm Waiting For. Go ahead, rip them, share them, that's what they're there for!

We've been fairly passive about gigs lately, but expect a great show at The Cross on the 30th, and watch this space for more confirmations throughout the summer.

It's going to be an exciting couple of months coming up!

Hi there,

There's gonna be pretty good gig on at The Cross this coming Saturday- Mecalin with a lot of new material, and Vocoder with bass player Morgan's birthday, and Po-ha road-testing some new material from the forthcoming album, as well as some older kickass tunes! Be great to see ya there!

Small turnout, but big thanks to everyone there- especially Blink and Jules, and that guy who came over from by the pool table to shake my hand- it meant a lot to hear you say nice things about us!

till next time

Yer, nice set from you chaps . . . recording came a out very clear, but not necessarily in a good way. the mics were too far from the stage to get the "grunt" on tape, so the result is VERY vocal heavy. I know what to do for next time all I need is a couple of extension cords for my 2xRCA-Jack and we'll get everything :)

Fucking nice Mp3's on your site.

When is the next Wellington show?
Might have to see if the live stuff lives up to the recorded stuff.

considering the next welly gig is with your band on 01/02/02 i doubt you'll be too disappointed then...

03! oh-three!

oh one oh two oh three! - damn it was such a sexy thing to say and i cocked it up.

I was thinkng about bring along two amps to this show, but after the last rehearsal we had, and the teeth-shattering volume of it all, I will stick to just the one.

Choose clarity over volume. Let the PA do some work.

BTW the new PA at Indigo looks very nice! I've heard only good things about it, and it wil be the first time we've played through it tonight, so come on up and have a listen!

Tonight, Saturday 01.02.03, Rawer, Mescalin and Po-ha play at Indigo Bar & Venue, Cuba Street.

Be one of the first 20 in the door from 9pm and get a one-off, signed double A-side from the La Galena sessions featuring Best Day and What I'm Waiting For. Strictly limited to just 20 copies.

see you tonight!!

http://po-ha.com ]

It was so fun to play those songs with Mescalin! Woohoo!

you guys rocked!!!
big mofo of a review to be posted in the next week...
keep it coming!!!

I didn't meet you, but I think Josh might have met you there, dude- he was at the door for a bit. Did you dig the mini-strobes on door!? There's this place at North City shopping centre that sells them for $5-$6 each, I thought they'd be a really cool way to make the door look a little different- chewed through 3 aa's in about 45 minutes though...

didn't notice them

were they very big???

Thanks Jon!
Those kind of compliments are always heartwarming for us. I should no doubt see you at the EP release later in March, we'll keep you posted bro.

i was trying to remeber what i said, when i saw the above post but couldn't hahaha :D

sweet should be wicked, indigo is a great venue is it not???
really enjoy the veranda thing (not sure of its proper name) its soo good to be able to get some fresh air with out leaving tthe bar

Strobe lights, man- I bought along these little red police car strobe lights- they were going at the door, but they were'nt big. Still, I was quite proud of them... (sniffles)... (stiffled crying noises)...

http://www.po-ha.com ]

...last time I do anything different for a gig...

kidding, of course :)

http://www.po-ha.com ]

I missed them to :( i think we might have come through the door a bit to early in anticipation for the cd.

http://www.rottonpear.tk ]

There's only one solution... more strobe lights next time. And and AC adapter pluggy type thing for them- those lights have an unprecendented hunger for power, the delythrium crystals are depleted, she canne' take ennie mo!

Hey guys Im finally here and I look just like my little picture. How po-halicious........

http://www.po-ha.com ]

A remarkable likeness. I wish I looked like my photo!

Having just discovered this site it seems I missed Po-Ha's last gig ... when are you guys playing again? I've heard good things and could do with a good night out in Welli.

We'll be putting another Wellington show real soon- not sure of the date just yet, but there'll we want to make a big fuss over it cause we're almost finished the new single... we'll definitely keep you posted piper.

http://www.po-ha.com ]

NEW single??? I thought the EP/Mini-Album was coming soon?

The EP is coming soon, but it's important for us to start building an awareness of it first- that's why we're picking a few of the catchier tracks to pass on to bnet radio as singles first. These singles will include some fairly industry-focussed content in the cover/liner notes- press release type stuff- but we'll hang on to a few for handing out to lucky punters at our next gig, that'll make them kinda rare I guess...

http://www.po-ha.com ]

Very very very soon. We will be releasing the single "Best Day". Keep your eyes wide open......
If you would like to be on our mailing list email us via the website. Cheers!

That was cool- 1st time at the NEW Bodega, and we played our little arses off!

To everyone who braved the elements, fought their way through the rain to the bodge last night, only to discover that Trinity had cancelled and we were playing instead... then came in to see us play anyway; I hope you guys had a great night out in spite of it all, thankyou so much for believing in new Wellington music a shot.

Thanks to Taurineman for helping me stay in tune in Si's absence. All drummers' secretly wish they were guitar techs... ;)

Next gig and recordings coming soon- don't miss out on an update, keep it here and get the latest info, or go and see the band site.

Peace people
