Yeah I like em. I heard they started doing the next album maybe about 6 months ago but some of the certain band members were getting bored by the whole music business crap and had left to go to europe and find some more interesting things to do - film stuff i think. All totally rumour from FOAF but who knows... might just be on bad drugs...!
I reckon their last albums was one of the best pop albums NZ has done. Superior to the Stellars,Tadpoles, Zeds etc that followed.
i'd be gutted if they have called it quits. Supersystem was a really great album and still is. It's really held up well compared to some other releases around that time.
Theres some negative vibes surounding the Feelers for no apparent reason other then they made a good pop album ( a lot better than most) and received recognition for it, something that at the time was unusual for a nz band. Now with the feelers getting the big NZ on Air grant for $50k for international promotion theres obviously some major jealousy about which is just petty. The feelers made great pop, great enough to stand up internationally and its awesome to see the govt recognising that and supporting them.
Well, as someone a little closer to the horse's mouth than most I might be able to fill everyone in a bit more. I believe that the songs for the new album have been written, but it was quite an arduous process with the band's ideas not quite matching the record company's ideas of what a "hit" sounds like. Same old story I guess. Since then they have had a reasonable break with, yes, some travel to europe etc, but should be getting into the studio soon to record. I wouldn't have a clue as to when the release date is, probably much later in the year, or even next year.
i've just got into the feelers while out visiting from the uk, i cant believe the difference in the music. you call the feelers "pop" in the uk its definately alternative. the souds the feelers come out with is excellent, the lyrics move you to another place. it was like being washed away by a torrent of class, the song "venus" washed over and through me at the same time. MAGNIFICENT. i hope the new album is as great as supersonic. and i hope i can recieve it over here in the uk!!!!!!!!!!
