Dudes and chicks lets talk about anything, maybe even nz music seeing it is nz music month at the mo. LONG LIVE NZ MUSIC!!

Forums: The Bar,

yes well it is friday the 13th and i survived the day, infact i had a very good day.

well it ain't over yet bucko, but the best of luck to you

nz music is pretty good.
i like a lot of it,
but i think the nz music industry and nz in general is a little too cosy
there's certainly been a lot of music produced in new zealand in it's brief history
and definitely alot of quality music.
i don't think anyone would dispute that.
but for a country so small
the media is and the industry and many industries are so restrained by guanxi.

guanxi=relationships and the favourable conditions acquired through relationships.

it's almost like just one boat load of nz people's ancestors decided that they will be the media, and the culture authorites etc, and so a whole lot of new zealand is unrepresented or uncatered for in the music industry, in the tv industry in the media in general.

there is usually less than six degrees of separation between most major ports in the new zealand music industry, be that artists or organizations
as noizyboys game indicates.
and no argument that new zealand is a small country.
but it seems that it's usually those with guanxi rather than those without who will tell you how small new zealand is.

the guanxi is so tight knit
that we see whole families on the stage..
and in certain cases this is justified
but there's a runga or a lloyd or a beehre or a moran too many for my liking.
a few too many seans and julians.
and i'm not disputing these people's talent,
but i do believe there are equally as good a bands or artists out there who are overlooked simply because of their lack of guanxi

take 'seaworlde' chch mid nineties- how many people have heard that album?
i haven't even heard that album
and they were a fucking great band
gone.
for the retention of the guanxi
but it's not just the music industry
it's at your present place of work
it's in every industry
in every country.
but in a small place like new zealand
where the guanxi could quite easily involve anyone
this exclusive crap just fucks shit up no good
hence making new zealand, [while a great country], a cunt of a place to work.

and so
what are your main concerns when purchasing sock?
love 'em or hate 'em we're all wearing them right now
personally i'm going for dark colours, i want my socks to be subtle and unmemorable,
this causes problems after a washing cycle;
sure they interchange fine,
but the whole monogomy thing is thrown out the window,
but i'm a conservative sock wearer,
i'm particularly interested in the ostentatious sock wearer
or that rare diamond in the rough the male ostentatious sock wearer
thoughts?

Which socks go best with roman sandles?

Thanks for the new word Rope. I'm off down the pub to try it out.

//this causes problems after a washing cycle;

but the whole monogomy thing is thrown out the window,

nice, extramarital sox. It only works if you get twelve-packs. All my black ankle sock pairs are at least slightly different, and I have a massive sock-match at the end of a wash. Unmatched socks get put in the sock drawer for a bit, then thrown away if their match never surfaces.

now come on - Friday the 13th was a bloody awesome day for me - Personally and professionally.

Jesus Christ Lucifer Sam, you're 25?! I was sure you were around 17, maybe 19 at the oldest. You're older than I am. Anyway, really liked the blog, especially how it looks like you made it on an atari or something. But of course I'm a prep so I would say that.

Seems like everybody has a blog, maybe I should get one. . .

Can I talk about those sick mofo fucks known as 'Boyracers'

Arrogant, Abusive, Dangerous sick fucks who have no regard for public saftey yet still get off lightly for there crimes, Like fucking come on, Your 21 and you "Give away" a joint to your 21 year old Best mate - you risk 7 FUCKING YEARS IN A GULAG yet if your a Boyracer and Kill or Injure somebody you only get a slap on the fucking wrist by some corrupt judge (who oughta be either hanged or stoned to death with bricks) cos there doctor/lawyer mummys and daddys PAID the judge to get there spoilt slutty/fucktard son/daughter off lightly for killing some innocent driver/padestrian.

To be honest here if i was Damien O'Connor I would have given the police draconian powers to fight Boy/Girl racers - Powers such as driving up to a Boy/Girl racer and "sideswiping" the vehicle off the side of the road - after all "Keeping them is no gain, Losing them is no loss" - The Bottom line is Boy/Girl racers are dangerous, arrogant and abusive sick lil fucks.

tassies got ya fiery last night did they?

In France ppl don't give a fuck about boy racers!!! They are just not very cool there :D!

You haven't got a contact email address on your webpage, LuciferSam, so I'll just have to comment on your weblog in a public forum. You touch my heart, I have no idea why. Ostensibly, we have not much in common. I'm quite a bit older than you, I have a great family, I don't hate anyone especially, I like Helen Clark (I vote Labour) and I don't have depression. On a superficial level, I see how eclectic your taste in music is - me too.Delighted to see you like Hello Sailor and Dave Dobbyn. On a deeper level, you struggle against all that is bland, inane and mindless - me too (although I'm a bit of a reality TV junkie). I hope the move went well, and that you stay off the evil nicotine - I'm a smoker, and haven't managed to give up, so far. I just wanted to say that I wish you all the best, and you keep on doing what you're doing. The older you get, the more you realise that it all passes - everything passes. I enjoy reading your weblog - you're a thinking human being, and that is increasing rare in this day and age.

Go back to where ever it is that mature students lurk...

J_J, that's not very hospitable of you.

Sorry but it just reads so pretenciously and holier than thou, high and mighty, reeks of ye olde mature student stereotype, if only he'd written it differently, the smugness fucks me off!

I think he's a she. For some reason I'm all about tolerance today. Not all adults are adult students, and even some of them are okay.. if I went back to uni I'd be an adult student.. and I'd kick your ass

//if I went back to uni I'd be an adult student.. and I'd kick your ass //

Now that would be funny, for all involved. But you wouldn't write cringe-worthy posts like the one i'm bitching about. It's those types of posts which just annoy me, I don't see you writing stupid posts trying to understand the arcane mind that is Lucifer Sam.

Thanks JackieG - Comments and email are disabled on my blog due to "security" reasons. Hmm...maybe I should add a disclaimer. Also as alot of Bloggers complain about spammers, im taking the nessecary precautions to prevent such motives.

Jon Jr - oh dear, oh dear. Did you get out of bed on the wrong side this morning, I wonder? I'm not an adult student, I'm a teacher; I don't talk cool, I talk my age, and my age is 41. I'm not a pretentious wanker, just someone who read the webpage of someone else, and wanted to say a kind word. The post wasn't addressed to you, it was addressed to Lucifer_Sam, and I would suggest that if you don't like the timbre of my post, you don't read it. Being a new person to this site, but a longtime user of the Internet and forums, I find your comments a little perplexing. I would never try to comment on someone Sam knew what I meant, and my words found my way to him, and that was my only intention.

Badly worded and posted halfway through what I meant to say which was - with public forums, you don't get to dictate the tone of someone else's post. Shame, eh?

First thing, these forums are not public, we are writing in them by permission of the morsemedia (god bless them). Secondly, posting in a topic called randomness means I AM going to read this, also the new post option means i'll read it as well, as I skim through the new posts... Thought you were familiar with forums, cause its a very forum thing, I think every forum I go to has these issues in one form or another, I can't just magicly blank out anything by anyone before I even know what they're going to say...

//I find your comments a little perplexing. I would never try to comment on someone Sam knew what I meant, and my words found my way to him, and that was my only intention.//

You had that problem before in another topic, didn't mean to sound gloating, but what you said easily came across that way. Same here I assume, I found your post to be holier than thou, high and mighty, what ever. Others seem to as well, maybe you need to think about how you write what you write? Cause the message seems to get a little muddled, i'm sorry I came out so strong, but your post fitted into the "Mature Student" stereotype of pretenciously dispensing worldly wisdom to those deemed lacking ie. younger...
You seem like a nice enough, I'm not just slinging out shit now, read what I say with a grain of salt, but I hope you get something out of it...

sheesh, jj, don't you think you're taking yourself a wee bit too seriously now??

ahhh the mature student, always fun in tutorials when they'd try and take over the show. Undermine the lecturer with stupid pointless questions, great fun.

Wouldn't you agree, Jon, that the Internet is notorious for the amount of misunderstandings that take place for one simple reason? You can't see the person's facial expressions and you can't hear the tone in someone's voice - their intonations. I may come across as condescending. I make no apology for it - what you read, you read with your own perceptions and life experiences behind you. I can't help that. I'm an interloper no doubt, in some ways, being a newcomer here. I make no apology for that either.I came here initially as a way to blow my brother's trumpet, mainly, and have ended up being a member because I enjoy most of the discussions here. The regulars seem to be intelligent and thoughtful, with considered opinions and a great deal of nous in matters I'm new to. I like that. I like finding out about music I never heard of, and I like reading people's opinions about music and other things. You may not like the way I have expressed myself in some posts - I accept that, but I can't be any other way than I am. I'm opinionated, stroppy, and yes, I can be infuriating. Can't we all? I don't apologise for any of it. Vive la difference, and have a nice day!

//pretenciously dispensing worldly wisdom to those deemed lacking

And what, exactly are you doing, if not purporting to dispense wisdom as to how to post and be? You're a fucking kid telling a grown up how to act, how up yourself is that?

//And what, exactly are you doing, if not purporting to dispense wisdom as to how to post and be? You're a fucking kid telling a grown up how to act, how up yourself is that?//

Dig Jon Dig!

// sheesh, jj, don't you think you're taking yourself a wee bit too seriously now??//

Believe it or not but I had a loopy grin on while writing this...

No, lets just talk about me. Wasn't "Who Loves Who The Most" the greatest song ever?

badgerbadgerbadgerbadgerbadgerbadgerbadgerbadger badgerbadgerbadgermushroommushroom

No, definitely not. Who-o-ahh.

What would you know, pissface? "Singer Guitarist" my arse. I bet you couldn't play "Who Loves Who The Most" lying down on a bed of nails like I can.
