A LOW HUM. when will it stop?

First things first. This next show would NOT have been even fathomable without the incredibly supportive people at Jack Daniels
who couldn't see me finish the year of A LOW HUM touring without putting on a spectaular party to end all partys.

There have been 10 A LOW HUM tours this past year. Taking 22 different bands on tour throughout the country. There have been 9 CDs featuring 80+ songs from independent and unsigned NZ artists, many unreleased and exclusive. There has been 1 DVD (nominated for a bNet Award). There have been almost 90 shows with 1000's of punters.
ALL TOGETHER NOW brings together a ridiculous selection of all the marvellous bands that have played on the tours throughout the past year. All on the one night, for Wellington only.

It just wouldn't be right to have this party without the band who played on the very first tour, Batrider. They have based themselves in Melbourne and haven't played a gig in their home town since the release of their choice as album "They said you're hideous", but With a bit of Arm-twisting I got them to come back to play at this mega Party. They did me proud as punch to headline the first tour and I'm pleased as a pickle to have them play again.

I thought, well, if I'm going to the trouble of bringing one band over from Australia, Why not bring two? I saw them play seven times
on the October tour last year, but no way near enough. They're back for another low hum helping. herrreeeesss... Cassette!

Gosh darnit if they weren't absolutely on the money when they toured with me in August 2004. The Accelerants are quite simply, fucken great and got New Plymouth a rocking like an ACDC concert. It's rock'n'roll with soul for those of you who are over rock'n'roll. If you live in Wellington and haven't seen The Accelerants live yet, it is time you saw the light. Their new album is choice by the way.

Take a breather....alrighty...

live performances are about as infrequent as you can get and twice as rare. When you get the chance to dance live to Phelps and Munro, you don't miss out. The last time I had Phelps & Munro play in Wellington a day after a show in Auckland, some fans flew down that day because they were not satisfied enough in Auckland, they had to see it live again. Is it a man? 2 girls? a Chihuahua? who knows... but it makes me dance the electric wookie.

The nicest man in show business; Disasteradio. The only person to have performed on two full A LOW HUM tours, and you can be sure
If I crank these tours up again, he'll be doing another. I cannot say enough good things about Disasteradio. I've taken him around
the country twice, throughout every crevice. Everybody loves Disasteradio and he gets more movement on the dancefloor then weazel attached to a rotating ball.

phew...

There is a God and it use's a walking frame and a pram, is adorned with christmas lights and is two people wearing masks and is not God, but is GoldenAxe. Your new favourite band is probably not them, but I can honestly tell you that for once in your life you are wrong.

Rounding off this ridiculous lineup are essentially the grooviest band in the country. The Chandeliers. Yup. They've just played on my most recent tour, a couple of weeks back. So What?! I saw them ten times in the last month...but I am not even remotely satisfied. Until The handeliers are living in my mittens and waking up mummies in my fingerless gloves, I will keep asking them to play shows. have you not seen them yet? I cry for your condemnded soul.

And at the end of the night, to clear the room and to destroy all the positive karma I created with this inspired heavenly lineup. I will perform the debut Blink "DJ" set. Since my favourite song of all time is "Strokin" by Clarence Carter, as soon as you see me hit the decks, start a running.
No refunds.

How much for this extravaganza of epic proportions?

Batrider, Cassette, The Accelerants, Phelps & Munro, Disasteradio, GoldenAxe and The Chandeliers! One Night! Every band!

Just $15. Tickets from Slowboat (Selling NOW!). Indigo Bar. Saturday 23rd. There is no CD or magazine this time. Give me a break already.
Doors open at 9PM. bands start very soon after and as the last two A LOW HUM shows at Indigo have sold out. I'd suggest getting in quick and early.

Thanks to my man Jack Daniels for making this year all possible and making the night fun even when there was no rider from the venue.
Massive respect to every wicked band who has honoured me by touring with me this past year and every single music loving kiwi out there who helped in anyway.

Forums: NZ Music,

haha. I take the writing of press releases to far sometimes.

If you can't be bothered reading this epic. Skip to the bottom two-three paragraphs. haha

I'm strokin' to the east, and i'm strokin' to the west, and i'm strokin' to the woman that I like the best, uh! I been strokin', that's what I been doin'

// Just $15. Tickets from Slowboat (Selling NOW!). Indigo Bar. Saturday 23rd.

shit...thats Saturday May 21st by the way...not the 23rd.

Dunedin is bitter about this

haha. man..i tried bro. I made some calls to see if people could share some of the risk with me to get this show happening in dunedin and chch...but it was going to lose me a hell of a fuckload of cash that i don't even have to start with. I also promised my girlfriend that i was going to take some time off from touring.

//I also promised my girlfriend that i was going to take some time off from touring.

You used to be about the music, maaaaaaaan.....

// You used to be about the music

actually..i used to be about the photos

:)

jez bro..why don't you come up here for the show. There is a wicked palmy band (with a few welly bands) gig at Bodega the night before. So you'd be right at home. A huge weekend of shows.

//actually..i used to be about the photos

but what about that time that you sent that record in to Ice TV with things stuck to it so that you could win some kind of music prize?

(that was you, right?)

// but what about that time that you sent that record in to Ice TV with things stuck to it so that you could win some kind of music prize?

haha..man, IceTV, Petra Bagust had more facial hair then me.

Go on ian, take the fuckin show to aukland. Youve got a date booked already.
:)
send me an email too, strange things are afoot

//I also promised my girlfriend that i was going to take some time off from touring.

"Hey xxxx, guess what? I have this tour of the beautiful South Island organised for the two of us, it's gonna be great! We even get to go to some good gigs that are coincidentally on at the same time!"

I have something like that happening very soon.

taking three vans and 20 band members on tour (the ferry alone would cost around $3000) and trying to make those shows run smoothly, against all odds not lose any money and get even deeper in debt AND spend some relaxing time with my girlfriend sounds frankly impossible.

haha. Funny how alot of promoters won't even take one band on a nationwide tour. I get hassled because I won't take seven? haha.

don't fret. Dunedin will be sick of the sight of my hairy face before the year is out.

//Dunedin will be sick of the sight of my hairy face before the year is out.

Or at least we would be if XXXX's revenge tactic didn't involve someone called Carson...

//Or at least we would be if XXXX's revenge tactic didn't involve someone called Carson...

what? Am I just thick or is that incredibly cryptic.

Carson = think man-scaping.

Hmmm. Mention of clippers on the shortest setting in the first hit...

... always cryptic.

I would recommend coffee, but I'm hardly the best advertisement for that substance.

Oooooh so tempting, the only problem being that I never have any money! Hence why I am embroiled in that export gold competition.. desperation does funny things to a man.

Aaah! Looks great!!! THE LINEUP!!! Wow

saturday 23rd?

oh doh just read your other post, curse me

I've been Strokin' to the East,
I've been Strokin' to the West,
I've been Strokin to the Woman that I love Best.
I've been Strokin.

oh my god i never knew how ruthless the lyrics were to this song!

we got the long 'n' dirty remix at work.

i shower once ive listened to it.

Someone told me Clarence Carter is (was? is he alive?) blind and about 70 when he wrote that song.
Makes it more awesome I say. If that stuff ain't tight enough you can stick it up my WOOOOO!

This will be a kick arse gig...

// Someone told me Clarence Carter is (was? is he alive?) blind and about 70 when he wrote that song.

Blind yes, 70 no. He was about 50, which just makes him pervy.

fuckin' aye. I might have to lift my ban on setting foot in Wellington to dance at this.

I am sure goldenaxe can find room or you can find them a bigger car. You could always "teenwolf" it on the top of the car for the whole journey down.

My transport for Saturday has pulled out, so unless anyone else is heading down from Auckland on the day & has room in their car (& replies to this post &c), I can't make it. Upside = I can attend a few things at the Auckland Writers & Readers Festival. But still.

Here's the complete song. This was my favourite song on my first CD, "Check this out 2" which also featured "U can't touch this", "Eagle Rock", "Hold on" by Wilson Philips, and many others. It really set me up for a life in music. I particularly like the line "I even stroke it with my....WOO!"

Strokin' - Clarence Carter

When I start makin´ love
I don´t just make love...
I be strokin´
That´s what I be doin´, huh
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best
I be strokin´

Let me ask you somethin´...
What time of the day do you like to make love
Have you ever made love just before breakfast
Have you ever made love while you watched the late, late show
Well, let me ask you this
Have you ever made love on a couch
Well, let me ask you this
Have you ever made love on the back seat of a car
I remember one time I made love on the back seat of a car
And the police came and shined his light on me, and I said:
´I´m strokin´, that´s what I´m doin´, I be strokin´´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best
I be strokin´

Let me ask you something...
How long has it been since you made love, huh?
Did you make love yesterday
Did you make love last week
Did you make love last year
Or maybe it might be that you plannin´ on makin´ love tonight
But just remember, when you start making love
You make it hard, long, soft, short
And be strokin´
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best, huh
I be strokin´

Now when I start making love to my woman
I don´t stop until I know she´s sas-ified
And I can always tell when she gets sas-ified
´Cause when she gets sas-fied she start calling my name
She´d say: ´Clarence Carter, Clarence Carter, Clarence Carter
Clarence Carter, ooooh shit, Clarence Carter´
The other night I was strokin´ my woman
And it got so good to her, you know what she told me
Let me tell you what she told me, she said:
´Stroke it Clarence Carter, but don´t stroke so fast
If my stuff ain´t tight enough, you can stick it up my...´ WOO!

I be strokin´ Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best, huh
I be strokin´
I be strokin´ Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I be strokin´, Yeah!
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the north
I stroke it to the south
I stroke it everywhere
I even stroke it with my... WOO!

I be strokin´
I be strokin´ Ha! Ha!
I be strokin´

So, um what about more ALH tours? I got my moneys worth every goddamn time. Are you gonna arange more gigs based upon the acts you get or other considerations, like Time or Money or whatever?

No idea right now. I've got a couple of cracker ideas that I'd like to see happen before the year is out. Thats all i know right now. One of them involves a really similar touring/cd package, others are completely different. Ideally they'll all happen, but I'm not counting chickens right now. I tell you what though...I am hell excited about what might happen.

You call yourself a music fan and you don't even know what Snow's on about? Everyone knows what Snow's about. Sheesh.

haha. yay. thanks to all for coming and all the bands who kicked ass. Especially Disasteradio who basically performed a life changing set, the most magnificent performance i have EVER winessed at Indigo. Seriously..no shit. Magical. I reckon people be talking about that set for some time to come.

I can't believe i got away with playing 90's club hits for 4 hours. haha, I had so many people complaining that why was I throwing an Indie night and playing club cheese in between bands. haha. They'd make a request for Joy Division and I'd play La Bouche or Reel 2 Reel.

i think i
heard you play
the way you
make me feel
& be with
you

//?the way you
make me feel
& be with
you

really? sure we were at the same show?

tick tick tick

tick boom.

haha. thats more like it.

Well yo are yall ready for me yet?
(pump it up blink)
Well here I go here I go here I here I go go

I can't believe you played Dj Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, thank god there was not getting jiggy wit it.
"one night in bangkok" - classic (though my flatmate has been thrashing that over the last few months.

Next time how about some OPP?

'one night in bangkok' went off!! Blink, your selections were da bomb-diggity

//Next time how about some OPP?

yeah you know me, you musta missed my hip hop set started with Informer by Snow, I think around 4:30am. MADDEST lyrics Ever!

"Informer you no say daddy me Snow me I'll go blame
A licky boom boom down
Detective mon said daddy me Snow me stab someone down the lane
A licky Boom Boom Down"

wha da hell does that mean?!

man, if you thought YOU had fun watching, blinkos - imagine how much of a gas it was to play that show! best time ever! thanks blink for getting it together and to everyone for coming - (and disasterettes and impromptu reinforcements, I never knew "playing solo" to be so much fun, heh)

This thead is old but I don't care- Blink <3 I'm not complaining one bit. Those 90s hits were like woah!

haha.. cheers. keepin' the thread alive, just like I keep the 90s dance euro hits a happenin'

I know what I want
And I want it now.
