what are some pieces of advice/cliches/idioms
that the older members of your family circle tend to rattle off all to frequently...but you rarely hear in the real world?
so you were an "oi! rdor no!" child?
i was a "there's no such word as 'can't, it means you can but you won't"
amongst alot of other mindless drivel....
Whenever we asked mum what she was cooking/sewing/whatever, she's say "a wigwam for a goose's bridle". Variation on "that's for me to know and you to find out".
Well tobacco smoking is a tradition in my family - which explains the early deaths of both my grandfathers (i have the misfortune to be the only sibling in my family to carry on the tradition even after starting back again after abstaining for 13 months after 6 years and 9 months of often chain smoking).
although not a cliche - a family tradition is passed on - My grandad made a model plug-in minature lighthouse in his 30s and passed it on to the eldest child of each generation - Once my grandad died, my mum became possessor of it, Then my mum died and Im now the possessor of it - once I kick it then my eldest...well u get the story.
