CONCORD DAWN
Thursday 13th December 2001 @ Galatos, Auckland

with:
AVOTOR
INDICATOR DOGS

Doors open 10pm

I wasn't a big fan of Drum and Bass, but after I heard Concord Dawn at the BDO I am now!

. . . 8am & I'm still completely MONSTERED by the Paradigm/Concord Dawn gig @ ReFuel today/last nite - CD were on ridiculously good form (if I had to whittle it down to one highlight, it might have been from a version of Cloud City were they turbocharged the trackbuild, managing to coordinate the slamming of dirty corrugated basslines into armies of breakbeats like some hyper tag-team; keeping everything perfectly balanced & in sync. Niiiiiiiiiice) &, er, yeah, they're all class & really know how to work a crowd. Can't wait to see them again (hopefully Auckland in a couple of months, eh?)

yeah steven come to auckland or i kill you

Funny that, was just speaking to Evan (Concord Dawn) and well he doesn't actually recall playing that track (Cloud City). hmmm, perhaps you mean 'Sticks'??

name dropping is a beautiful thing.

argh, yr probably correct - I wasn't too sure which track exactly (haha few days minus sleep + I was, er, a sump of toxic concoctions @ the gig) (+ spending two hours fetal in toilets immediately afterwards - XTRME PAIN tended to dominate my thoughts).
& not to call you rockist or whatever, but I think I was originally trying to convey some sense of the urgency/importance/etc I felt (ie making up a word like "trackbuild" should surely exempt me from truth in setlists, eh eh eh?)

meh...i was just being a pedantic bitch... 'trackbuild' is a fukking brilliant word. nice one. oh & trystero I feel your pain...you musta been bad.

This I know.

Congrats to the Concords for the UK charts

Always good to see the nzrs taking it overseas with more than a slap on a returning behind. Absolutly brilliant live set..........

Hey, anyone know if the "Morning Light" single has/will see(n) domestic release?

Wont be for release later in the year...will find out more info for you.

Is only on vinyl at present...prrobably will be released with album next year according to my sources

Cheers. (& to random people reading this - google for "Concord Dawn" + "Morning Light" (+ "review") to see the sort of press they've been getting in the UK - it's INSANE.)

If its any help to you, Morning Light is available to buy as an MP3 from amplifier.co.nz but be warned they have a $10 minimum charge now. The vinyl is available in NZ - beatmerchants have it.

i wana know what the song was that concord dawn played first at the tauranga gig wit tadpole and i herd it on channel z lately to is it a new one

Morning Light

i saw concord dawn play live at the tadpole gig with rubicon and they were wicked they went off and i went out i brought the cd yeah go concord dawn

concord dawn has inspired me from when i saw concord dawn at the tadpole gig

I've been listening to "Morning Light" solidly for the past fortnight, & it's utterly, utterly classic - I couldn't say if it's the best thing they've ever done, but it's easily the catchiest/hook-iest. If I were Concord Dawn, I'd try & release a 3-minute or so edit of it as a radio/cd-single - this has "MASSIVE CROSSOVER POTENTIAL" scrawled all over it, sorta like early 90s UK 'ardkore/jungle. The first few seconds have some of the most atmospheric production EVAH. Big big ups to the boys for this slice of genius - are we getting a video for this eh eh eh?

It is on the radio, both Channel Z and the b-net stations....and there is a video on the way, but it may be a little while yet.

The vids out now!

for all that were at alpine unity
did anyone catch their set (3.30am dnb zone, 2nd night) with MC Rizzla and MC Tali? i thought it was wicked, any other comments, thoughts?

ah yes, concord dawn. when i heard they were on at tha same time as tadpole, i thought, "screw tadpole, im gonna see tha dawn!"

i am usually not a techno/drum'n'bass fan but there song morning light FUCKEN OWNS!!!thery odviously have the talent to go far, good luck to the 'dawn

why yes it does. it was a shame they were at the same time as deftones at the bdo, i really wanted to see them perform. but i guess you can't have everything go your way.

Actually, topping the UK dance charts suggests they've already gone pretty far. Watch out for a new CD coming from these guys soon. Ah - wierd coincidence - Morning Light has just come on the radio.

anyone catch their show at the bdo??? if you did how good were they ??

Alpine unity Bwoy, dark N dirty N fukn rinsin it out. Capital J was pretty sik 2

quite impressed with their remix of Slayer's 'raining blood'.

Actually it's not a remix. Evan played the riff himself and sampled it. And if you were a real Slayer fan, you would know that the riff is not exactly the same anyway.

i like the funny solo.

for someone who really doesn't know his shit from his sandwiches i'd have to say that at least 60% of the new album is fucking awesome.

dirty squelchy ace bassiness bruises my balls and my brain before breakfast.

You just make sure you look after yourself there Nato. I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day but we don't want to lose you to some unfortunate bass crotch injury in your prime.

great guys too. they were the best thing on squeeze this year IMHO and they're fucken entertaining in-person.

Horror show is a wicked track, and I love the videoclip for 'Don't Tell Me', wicked

I don't u don't like *gay techno*

mint track

Listened to there album yesterday and while I found it good, was expecting it to be quite a bit better. Almost seemed like they got lazy on it, and way to much trance sounds. As for the lyrics"Don't tell me what to do, and who the fuck are you".......must have taken them ages to come up with that.

So not as good as the earlier stuff then?
I agree on the lyrics thing - The best Concord Dawn stuff has very few or no lyrics. Their 1st album would hav 2 b my favourite.
Wen r they nex playn in Ham's?

New video perhaps?

Wonder if it's true.

Heh.

elevenfiftyseven.com's bio on kitsch has Evan Short as playing bass. I take it this is merely a side project and Concord Dawn are still together?
