I have to admit I'd got to that numb point of not wanting to hear about Iraq, but this is a pretty interesting bit of reporting.
Just an interview, not an opinion piece, which I think is exactly what I needed to read.
A friend who works in Afghanistan was staying a month or so back and things sound bad enough there, it's really hard to comprehend how awful it must be in Iraq.

Instead of "great" I should perhaps have said "enlightening". The journalist's articles themselves get more and more depressing.

I cant help but wonder if its possible that the NZ media could become just as one eyed as the american media one day. Kinda scary
I read a good interview with Paul Verhoeven, director of 'Starship Troopers', who was saying that it's eerie how much the gung ho mindset he was satirising in that movie has come into play in the last few years. He was pointing out the idea of blowing bugs out of caves with massive firepower as a solution to being attacked was pretty much a direct analogy for what happened in Afghanistan.
I always find it bizarre that people didn't find that movie ridiculous or full of satire, it just seems plain hilarious to me. As far as the war in Iraq goes, I can't believe anyone could support it, but look what people are prepared to swallow...in a months time bets are on that Tony Blair will easily take the UK election, which will mean that Bush, Howard and Blaire, the 3 leaders all proven liars by fact got re-elected - what does that tell you about fear in the west! "I'll have the liar again thanks!"
