'3 The Hard Way', one of the pioneering forces of the New Zealand hip-hop announce new album details.
The forthcoming new album 'EYES ON THE PRIZE' will be released by Sony Music/Joy Records on Monday, November 10th
'Eyes On The Prize' is the second album from the guys who released one of New Zealand's first hip-hop albums in the early nineties and are often credited with kick starting the scene.
Its On, the first single to be taken from 'Eyes On The Prize' has been unanimously embraced by New Zealand radio upon it's release three weeks ago. Its On will be released as a single in New Zealand stores on September 29th.
Its On is described by Chris as: "a song about getting through, about not letting anything get you down…about positivity".
'3 The Hard Ways' first release was the massive Hip Hop Holiday, released in 1994. An instant street smash that crossed over to radio, the song spent five weeks at the top of the New Zealand chart, selling in excess of thirty thousand copies, and becoming a kiwi anthem. Backed by the success of the record and the top three status of its follow up, Many Rivers, the crew released their debut album later that year, Old School Prankstas, which went platinum in 1995.
Throughout 1994 and 1995 3 The Hard Way toured extensively as a headline act in Australia and New Zealand. However, by the end of 1995 the boys decided to take a break.
That break lasted longer than anyone anticipated, and, despite a number of demos freshly recorded, it wasn't until a chance meeting with Alan Jansson in 2001 that 3 The Hard Way found themselves back in the studio, signing a deal with his new Joy label, via Sony.
Twelve months of recording and writing, the second 3 The Hard Way album 'Eyes On The Prize' is finally ready for release.
3 The Hard Way have released their new single 'It's On' this week.
they cut out a bit of glass throwing and they've blurred a nipple. The silly thing is that the video is anti-violence and TVNZ missed the point. The idiots that throw the bottles loose out.
s'funny how thats censored but the Beyonce video where they blow up a car is fine. Odd.....
SINCE WHEN DID YOU DECIDE TO COME BACK OUT ON THE SCENE...NAH...I RECKON YOU GUYS ARE NOT SO BAD NOW, YOUR OTHER SONG WAS SO COOL, I THINK YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO MORE HIP HOP ESPECIALLY IF YOU CALL YOURSELVES 3 THE HARD WAY...LEARN FROM YOUR NAME...C'MON CATS YOU CAN UPRISE ANY OF THESE MAREKO'S OUT THERE...
I MEAN IT. IM FEELING YOU'S. I JUST WISH I WAS MANAGING YOU RIGHT NOW...
LOVIN THAT FEELING THAT YOU GUYS HAVE COME BACK, WAY TO GO AND EVERYONE SUPPORT THESE CATS...THESE WESTIES...ITS ALL GOOD...MUCH LOVE AND KEEP ON KEEPING ON TRACKS HARD ONES...
LOVE LCA.
Hang on, I change my mind..their new song sux..cos its all white trash related chicks riding a horse showing how they can ride..& you'd think the singers were at least the same culturally..but no..islanders/maori's dam that..makes me hate them now..good song, not as good as they should be but using trashy white girls..ph*k you..shows what you think of your own woman cows..
their own women? A quick look at these guys will tell you that they, like a lot of kiwis, are mixed blood. These girls sure look like West AK girls to me so thats representin'
The clip itself is trashy despite them having g'friends already..using sexual references in a way to promote their stuff I guess. It has to work of course. The world is full of sex promoted things these days.
Man, wats up wit u cats? First you wanna bring out some fine as brotherly tunes and then come out in 2003 with something so unlike 3 at its hard way. C'mon, wheres that hardcore material. C'mon guys I'm still supporting you and still will for a long time. Make sure you start putting some good shit down.
I'll be waiting on ya'll.
Peach and much love.

The albums okay. They seem to be coming out too mainstream rather than owning their persona as to who they were when they first came out. That was such a bad az song considering how it came out at that time..I still like them but I reckon with all these new cats all around they really should rise to the market & show people who was here first.
well I think they are just being themselves and it works. The diffrence between their album (which I really like) and most other NZ hip hop albums (I'm thinkin' Scribe and Mareko and othas) is that 3 The Hard Way are still just doin their thing and don't give a shit what others think while the others are makin records that are more like what they think hip hop should sound like...kinda like cartoons of american hip hop three years ago
been buyin hip hop for a long time and I figured out years ago that its about breakin the rules not obeyin them
Whats up with these morons recycling theyre VIDEHOES? Them lesbian chickens kissing eachother and then doing the traditional "groupie" thing and getting with the guys, And whats up with SNOOP DOG? Hes ugly for one and then some one wanna look like him? the song its on is banging, or it was, tho its old now, and they used the same girls, who coulda been prettier. i saw better on STOP DROP AND ROLL,these guys belong in the past just like r kelly and bobby brown. who the hell let them all out of the 90's? send them bak, please,
I'm an old fart. I like Ray Charles and Beethoven, Sam Cooke and the Beatles et cetera.
I am currently trying to augment my modern music section, and while searching for Hip Hop Holiday and Many Rivers To Cross I stumbled across this war of words concerning 3 The Hard Way's new single and video. Firstly, it was a pleasant surprise to find that they were still around. Secondly, I will be interested in listening to their new material which, if their stuff of a decade is anything to go on, should be excellent.
My tastes are fairly exacting, and music made by the next generation must be accessible before I can get past the first ten seconds. For this reason, the very catchy Hip Hop Holiday and the hauntingly soulful Many Rivers To Cross always stuck in my mind.
For the record, and seeing as younger people today find it necessary to categorise by association, I should say that the other comparable modern music I have found accessible includes (from New Zealand) Sway, In The Neighbourhood, How Bizarre and Screems From Da Old Plantation, and (from elsewhere) Morcheeba, Alabama 3, Jamelia, Gorillaz and Eminem.
Reading such varying comments about 3 The Hard Way on this page amused me. I add my own comments in the spirit of participation, and I am entirely prepared to be shot down in flames by all those to whom the thought of an old fart recommending a young West Auckland outfit's early work is abhorrent.
Nevertheless, I must state that anyone who takes the time to vehemently disrespect someone else's hard work in an internet forum must have their motives questioned. They are either too preoccupied with trends to know any better, or too young to have hairs on their nutsack.
I like to listen closely before judging. I am happy that I can still find Old Skool Prankstas, and I will be buying a copy of Eyes On The Prize with an open mind.
