I'll start. I'm arbitrarily going to say it should be a single and should have broad appeal.
Number 1... 'Crazy in Love' by Beyonce
Number 2... either 'Digital Love' or by Daft Punk
Number 3... '(This is) The Dream of Evan and Chan' by Dntel featuring Ben Gibbard
Number 4... 'Casual Friday' by Black Leotard Front
Number 5... 'Last Exit (Fennesz Remix)' by The Junior Boys
Heh. That Black Leotard Front tune is a quarter of an hour punky disco thing with a highly repetitive lyric "I am leaving the office / I am taking off my dress / I put on my overcoat / To surprise you in the flesh / Love me, you must confess / It's written across my chest". From memory. Oh, as sung mainly by men , layered up in scary falsetto, spoken baritone, and some German.
It makes me think of Udo Kier and Andy Warhol, for some reason. :D
And BLACK LEOTARD FRONT!! Holy shit!!! Best band name ever!!
Oops, number 2 I was tossing up between 'Digital Love' or 'One More Time', but really I think it has to be 'Digital Love'. The so played out it's ridiculous vocoder stylings, the retro MOR meets house concept. The out-of-nowhere tiny 'Penny Lane' synth trumpet trills... and then the most ridiculous synth-playing-at-being-a-searing-axe solo at the end!
AMAZING

I am going nuts sitting by myself at work with nothing to do. I'm saving up leave, so unlike my workmates, I'm sitting here but my clients are school staff and it's the school holidays. HELP ME.

Ok joanna im going to be honest here - a few times, but dont blame me, It was in my younger years when i was under the influence of certain Class C (or Class A's on the odd occasion) hallucinagenic substances
Luci: you know that Robyn's a big Justin and Beyonnce fan yeah? How do you expect your relationship to work out if you can't share her interests?
Jet: dammit, you got my weakness. But I can't think of any songs from this millennium right now anyway cos my head's still full of Patti Smith's 'Free Money' from seeing In My Father's Den again last night.
So Luci, if a beautiful girl Modestly Dressed in black pajamas or perhaps a black ankle length skirt approached you and said "hi, I'm looking for a long term commitment, and I don't watch reality tv, but I'd really like to dance with you to this great pop tune first" - what would you do?
Well, these are the ones that have defined my last five years:
QOTSA - The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret
Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You
SJD - A Boy
Supermen Lovers - Starlight
Daft Punk - Aerodynamic
Basement Jaxx - Good Luck
Gorillaz - 19/2000
Ian Brown - F.E.A.R
Also:
Paselode - Upping the Ante
Lemon Jelly - Space Walk
The Go! Team - The Power Is On
The Six Feet Under title theme
Right at the moment I'm getting my rocks off on EVERY SINGLE TRACK on Guero
Also a Metservice track or two, but that'd just look like I'm arselicking.
OHNOS how could I forget Basement Jaxx!!! *sigh* That song is REALLY choice, but I'd probably choose the next tune off 'Kish Kash'... 'Right Here's The Spot'? WOW. 'Cish Cash' is great too.
Moloko's 'Forevermore' is pretty exciting too. Like Black Box or Technotronics meets squawly UK garridge synth growls, building into a huge strings and things phenomenon!!!
I was expecting more out-and-out pop Heather. You sneaky "I like the pop, but mainly the pop subverted in other things" type person!
Best song ever would have to be "Reach Out" by David Hasselhoff
Second place goes to Bette Middler with "The Rose"
Third goes to Bette Middler with "Just A Girl" first made my No Doubt but has been totally out performed by the lady with the big snozz.

What the......It better not be one of those lame remakes, If so it seems speilberg needs to smoke some more chronic - get some more original ideas. I have thought of many ideas for hollywood flicks over the past few years.
1.lostprophets:we are godzilla,you are japan
2.metallica:master of puppets
3.lostprophets:we still kill the old way
4.jarassic 5:thin line
sorry number five is just to difficult to decide
I reckon there should be a blanket ban on naming songs after movie titles. Dutch electro label Clone has a compilation called 'We Still Kill The Old Way' as well.

of the millenium? cant we do decades?
I think he means NEW millenium . . . maybe ??
Yeah, I thought the "so far" bit made it clear I was meaning the current millenium, which is only about 5 years done depending how you measure it.
I've made my response, in an appropriately stupid fashion for such a topic. :) Although I neglected Kylie's 'Love At First Sight'! Dammit!

1. Who Could Win A Rabbit - Animal Collective
2. Hey Ya - Outkast
3. Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand
4. Clocks - Coldplay
5. Holdin' On - The Clean
grr, no place for Britney's Toxic!

Ditch the Coldplay, Noizy. ;) Nah, they're all incredible songs. That 'Who Could Win A Rabbit' is sooooooo unlike anything else I've heard. Whoa.
// Ditch the Coldplay, Noizy. ;)
aha! can't help myself - I love my bedwetters (as the UK resonate people so eloquently referred to them).
// That 'Who Could Win A Rabbit' is sooooooo unlike anything else I've heard.
amazing album, really. lovin' it still.
//I am going nuts sitting by myself at work with nothing to do.
Sounds like someone needs to start playing Kingdomofloathing.com fo'reals.
//Number 1... 'Crazy in Love' by Beyonce
you gotta be joking jet - worst song ever
//worst song ever
Luci, have you ever had a dance, or a boogie or shaken your ass ever???
(ooh double ever! And I call myself a word bitch?)
//Luci, have you ever had a dance, or a boogie or shaken your ass ever???
joanna - closest ive been to that - moshing. its called shaking your head. Gets kinda annoying once you get glasses.
I think you need to Get Over It in capital letters, and let yourself embrace the fact that pop music is fun! And dancing to pop music is Funner!
Ok joanna im going to be honest here - a few times, but dont blame me, It was in my younger years when i was under the influence of certain Class C (or Class A's on the odd occasion) hallucinagenic substances
As punishment you're not allowed any bands starting with "P" and ending with "o" in your list, Joanna!
....But it wasnt pop music, it was reggae dub.

differences are what bring people together.
That is the BEST call. :D I've got a big grin going.
// //Number 1... 'Crazy in Love' by Beyonce

How can you hate a song that starts off with "This is history in the making, part two"?
// //Luci: you know that Robyn's a big Justin and Beyonnce fan yeah? How do you expect your relationship to work out if you can't share her interests?
// differences are what bring people together.
then we r destined 2b!!!!
- AMERICA THE BRUTAL: Six Feet Under.
- TOXICITY: System of a Down.
- CHOP SUEY: System of a Down.
short as list - gotta say all the GREATEST music was made between 1967 and 1973, most music made since 1997 has been a pile of rotten vomit.
System of a Down - ha, never listening to you again about anything to do with music.
you mean you dont like SOAD??? man.........thats.......bad news.
sarcasm again eh?
I'm an idiot, but I don't claim to know what good music while liking bad nu metal...
The Coral - Dreaming of you
The Ordinary Boys - talk talk talk
The Black Keys - Girl is on my mind
Franz Ferdinand - take me out
Outkast - hey ya
i know i know

Fuckit.
Fur Patrol - Fade Away
Linkin Park - In The End. I don't care who knows it.
//Linkin Park
click beep beep beep.
//but I'd probably choose the next tune off 'Kish Kash'... 'Right Here's The Spot'?
Yes. I was mainly trying to namecheck released tracks. But that whole album is awse.
//I was expecting more out-and-out pop Heather. You sneaky "I like the pop, but mainly the pop subverted in other things" type person!
...finally! Somebody truly understands!
Oh - add Die! Die! Die! - Auckland is Burning to my list.
Heather, this doco's coming out here in Oz, presumably to follow in NZ. About the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre.

You haven't heard The Hoff's 'Night Rocker'? "I am the night rocker / I wanna rock you all night long"? It's pretty good.
baywatch was a good show - the prime and sky 1 re-runs bring back fresh memories of my otherwise tempestuous youth
Word is that after Speilberg finishes with WOTW's he's wants to do something 'fun' - he's going to do a Baywatch Movie!
What the......It better not be one of those lame remakes, If so it seems speilberg needs to smoke some more chronic - get some more original ideas. I have thought of many ideas for hollywood flicks over the past few years.
the people on baywatch are Immodestly Dressed.

Why oh why did no one tell me before that 1986 was in the new millennium? I could have voted for that song by Samantha Fox.
I reckon there should be a blanket ban on naming songs after movie titles. Dutch electro label Clone has a compilation called 'We Still Kill The Old Way' as well.
krid you are joking aren't you, that was sarcasm?
My list is too long, so I'll just add my fave and a runner-up:
BEST: Tom Waits - Barcarolle (one of the most beautiful songs of any millenium)
RUNNER UP: Wilco - Jesus Etc. (this is THE post-9/11 song)
This= sole post that mentions anything decent.
