QOTSA new album

It's received some mixed press, but personally I think its pretty damn good. Nick Olivieri was a superior bassist, but Josh Homme hasn't done too badly without him.

Nice mix of the more traditional QOTSA spooky/stoner stuff and some of the more mellow, almost poppy stuff explored on the last Desert Sessions album. Also pretty chuffed that they included "In My Head" from Desert Sessions. Thoughts?

Forums: The Bar,

i've seen the video and the audio sounds really small, weak and quiet (compared to everything else) like it hasn't been mastered or something? whats up with that?

think it's just C4 not checking their tape maybe? or have you heard it on other stations?

I heard it on Juice yesterday and they had the same problem. The vocals and bass were inaudible- basically just a drum and guitar track. Something has obviously fucked up - it sounds like only the left-hand track is playing or something.

I like it, thought it would be more like self-titled (since its just Josh & Alfred) but I really miss Nick, he gave the band more balls, their live performance will be lacking because of it.
I guess I'll have to rely on Mondo Generator to hear his screaming that is missed on LFP.
It is quite possible that Nick will rejoin, since Josh & Nick are on talking terms again & Josh be on the new Mondo Generator album. But Nick would have to get his life in to check & try not to be too wild.

Where's the rocknroll gone?

maybe wild has a different definition in Oliveri's case.

but going back even further, I think I liked the playing of scott reeder more so. However a similar style in many respects.

//I liked the playing of scott reeder more so

I was hoping he was the one going to replace Nick, but that would be too deja-vu since thats what happened with Kyuss.

btw - it was quite cool seeing Scott trying out for Metallica, never knew his strings were upside down, I guess he learnt on a right handed bass

Yeah - I'm not sure that it's "wild" generally, as much as it is "so wild that it interferes with touring and/or recording". Nick isn't the only one who likes to...ahem...indulge himself from time to time.

//Nick Olivieri was a superior bassist

to whom, Alain Johannes?

no. fucking. way.
