Hey all, the band is going to be recording at Matrix Digital later this month. Were hoping to record about 10 original tracks plus a few really quick covers (Folsom Prison Blues-Johnny Cash/Beat On The Brat-The Ramones). We'll probibly press something up after weve finished.
hey all, the recording is now due to happen on the 25th. But that may change due to technical difficulties. Hopefully all will go smoothly and stay tuned for gigs that should be happening soon (if I get off my ass and organise them). Keep coming to the website, cos there should be some new recordings up soon after the demo is done. Cheers vocoder manager
Yay for the demo! Good on you guys for a job well done! Everybody else look forward to hearing it on the website soon! (hopefully!)
cheers to omw as well for doing a great job and putting up with their shit! hehe
Gig on the 22 of feb at bar bodega, don't know much more at the moment, probibly charge this time and stuff, but cds should be avaliable on the night for those interested.

if anyone's interested vocoder are keen to get a support gig with some fine welli band sometime in the very near future..contact them on vocoder@paradise.net.nz cheers
Cheers for the nice words Axel and Gak. . .
The Turnaround is now available fer downloadin' (albeit in lesser quality than here!) from www.vocoder.co.nz which should help the people who want to hear it but can't get it streaming. There's also most of the demos we recorded in Auckers at SAE . . .
PS: Us and the lovely Po-Ha are making the trek back to Auckland and the Temple for Saturday the 26th . . . I believe we're even gonna have CD's and Swag (it's almost like we're getting organised!)
Vocoder and Po-ha gig at Bodega on the 8th of March, it's our first gig in Wellington in about 4 months so hopefully new songs should get an airing if we can find somewhere to rehearse.
cheers

hey geetar,
I forgot to give you that complement the other night, mainly cos u guys were being nads! But eh em.. anyhow.. listened to "rock-o-tronic" the other night and thought it was really good! and I sure the latest recording was good too, although I think I had given it away before I listened to it. looking forward to the single release and this vid ey!
"rock-o-tronic!" cor that's an oldie - but thanks for the compliment anyway : ) . . . you haven't heard the SAE stuff or the "produced by Peter J" version of The Turnaround? . . . if you need 'em then let me know . . . you can download most at http://www.vocoder.co.nz/sounds_nf.html or i'll burn yer a shiny disc with 'em on
How Cool is this? . . . The "Rock-O-Tronic!" Live release that comes out of our show with the wonderful Po-Ha (www.po-ha.com) and Mescalin (homepages.paradise.net.nz/brianhow) on Friday, March 8 @ Bodega has been pre-accepted into the National Archives!
That means that every scream/yell/smash etc . . . from the bands or the crowd that's included will be an official part of New Zealand History! So come along and make some NOISE!

Cool, I might get you summat soon . . . yer, still a bit annoyed about the "curfew" notification on Friday but so far as we can tell everyone thought it was our best Wellie set ever (maybe b/c it was only 7 songs ;) . . . )

Cheers for that! and thanks to Phoebe for playing "the turnaround" ...
PS: The video Blink made for the song is in the final selection for "Handle The Jandal" ... so if anyone's in Wellie next Monday you can see it on the big-screen at the Paramount, starts @ 8pm I believe ... (it's also on our website if you can't wait...)
... and we're also in Auckland on Saturday Night @ The Temple with Mister Lemon and a couple of mellow/quiet acts - Feyodor and The Venturi Effect ... it all kicks off around 9pm :)
Nothing like a trip to Auckland to put back yr faith in being in a band . . . Sure the crowd silences after cheering the last songs are weird, but it seems that when people really like you there they're not afraid to let you know, and the King's Arms has one of the best sound setups I've ever played through ...
On top of that, there are some awesome bands floating around there ... Mister Lemon are my current fave NZ live band, exciting in the same way as pist-off Sunship were, a fired-up DSuper and the first time you saw the Datsuns - pure tight energy with some damn good poppy garage rock songs ... and here I was getting sick to death of new rock+roll . . . too many inferior carbon copies with little songwriting ability and f'all stage presence . . .
Here's hoping that Rock+Roll is still "In" when they finally get themselves out of Auckland . . . ;-)

Very nice review in this month's Real Groove (Cheers Brent Cardy!)
"'Vocoder' is such a great word, it seems a pity to waste it on a cold, impersonal piece of electronic equipment. Thankfully, the Wellington band of the same name are just the opposite. Fizzing like the Buzzcocks on a caffeine high, Vocoder have energy and scissor-kicks to burn and their introductory six-song EP is a gem. Optimistically titled Sweethearts of the Radio (Rock-O-Tronic), the music therein is brash pop-punk - infectively contagious and thrashingly good fun. An added extra is the unlisted bonus track, an impulsively fresh take on Johnny Cash's 'Folsom Prison Blues'"
Thanks :) ... We are working on getting you guys down here at some stage (altho' it's goin' pretty slowly with people only just getting back into town) so hopefully us lot or someone else will get you to Wellie soon!
Come one come all to Thistle Hall TONITE!
See Vocoder and Kiama (and others?) play soem tunes on musical instrument devices. Starts 9ish methinks.
Also a huge ta muchly and kiss on the cheek for those of you who came to the cross for the Vocoder/Accelerants single release show, and to those who said nice things about us. It was a truly awesome night.
As you all know I left vocoder earlier this year. I asked the members of the band that are carrying on not to play a song I wrote called the Great Depression. Anyway these are the responses I received. I know that this isn't cool but after receiving these I was quite shocked.
---------------
Hey Liam,
Have been informed by Jamie of your request for us to refrain from
performing TGD. I'm assuming you are extracting the micheal with this
request, seriously.
If you are infact serious about this request, may I point out a few
things first.
1. You get money from APRA when we play songs that you have a writing
credit for, which at the moment includes other songs that are not The
Great Depression and that you had very little to do with actually
writing. So you actually gain from us playing these songs.
2. OK fine, we can stop play TGD. It would then be appreciated if that
if/when you play this song to yourself on your guitar at home you would
refrain from including parts of my bassline as you have done in the
past.
I'm sorry if I'm coming across like a totally sarcastic little
gobshite, but serious, how else am I meant to react to this. Really?
Cheers
Morgan
--------
??????????????? ... are you serious???
OK - here's my response (if you are being serious)
********************************************
Ahem - don't be so fucking pathetic (again).
1. The Great Depression is NOT "your" song, in the
same way Vocoder is not my band (why do you keep
making this mistake):
If you will remember I wrote all the lyrics, rewrote
the melody, arranged the music and wrote the "bridge"
to it (the "dull little hearts" piece) ... it was a
cool little riff and goth verse before I fixed it up -
it was far from being a "song" - more a "snippet" or
an "idea" ... We're not playing No Legs Left or
Sleeper if that's any comfort ;)
2. Do you also want us to drop the other songs we
wrote during your tenure as our drummer as well? Do
we have to start all over again because you're
throwing a tantrum about us continuing after YOU left
the band?
3. We (i.e. me, Morgs and Nik) all like the song, the
crowd like it and there's no reason for us to not use
it... what exactly have you got to back your demands
up with??? more threatening phone calls??? All you
have in your e-mail is that you "expect" it to not be
played again ... Why??? Try backing your arguments up
with some form of reason or logic.
4. Yes you are ignorant:
ignorant in that you think you are are bigger than the
band (i.e. you can stop us playing things we have a
right to play from outside of it).
Liam, you should really try to get over the fact that
Vocoder exists without you. This behaviour is
downright bizarre ...

Hi everyone, As you all know I left ...
Hi everyone,
As you all know I left vocoder earlier this year.
Really?
Cheers
Morgan

Love Jamie
