i was talking to bomber about 3 years ago when i still worked in the belly of the beast (radioworks) and asked him when channelZ was coming to dunedin, he said in six months.
there is a freq still vacant owned by works, meanwhile we have this new "local" station the breeze....piped straight from chch, ads & all
I don't think Dunedin ever needed Channel Z. I don't think it needs Kiwi FM either. It also doesnt need piped in standardised streaming radio from out of town, but what centre in NZ does? For all you Aucklanders, please try to imagine how horrible it would be if the only radio you ever got only talked about Gore! Thats how it feels for the rest of us with all the Radio Stations streamed down from Auckland. Painful.
As for Dunedin being left out of that edition of Rip It Up, its most likely because no ones made it "big" out of here for a long time. However the bands are getting their shit together-ish, maybe this year will be the year!

that was not what the articles were about. They were about the "underground" scene. Shit, Dunedin has one of the most vibrant scenes around. Onanon, Dickthephone, The Futurians, ISO12, Alphacast, The Aesthetics, Rory Storm and The Invaders, International Telepaths, Gestalt Switch, The Puddle, Pumice, Operation Rolling Thunder, The Shut ups, Kahu, Toki, Gina Rocco.
Umm..pretty much the most vibrant scene in the country. Lots of bands in Dunedin don't give a fuck about AKL cause for so long AKL has ignored them, looks like the cycle continues.
oh..and the fact that Dunedin gets shows from legends like The Dead C, David Kilgour and the Heavy Eights, Bob Scott, The Renderers, The Terminals more often then us poor northlanders makes it a very exciting scene and more then worthy of a writeup.
