Music in New Zealand

Hi everybody,
My name is Lise I'am a french girl and I study in a business school. I work on a presentation about young people in New Zealand(everyday life, habits, hot spots in your country..). I write you now because I'd like to know some names of New Zealanders groups, name of music festivals which take place in New Zealand or anything I should know about music in your country!
Tx in advance for your answers, I'am available for chatting!

Forums: NZ Music,

The best band in New Zealand is 'Amperzahn' =P

MORE shameless self promotion

VERY cocky

There is The Big Day out every year, where international and local artists alike play to crowds that come from most of NZ, the New Zealand low key/non commercial music scene is superb with young bands aplenty for every thinkable genre

some good NZ bands - The Checks, The Electric Shakedown, The Situations, The Mint Chicks, The Fanatics, The Vacants, The Dukes, Conan and The Mockasins...

and many others besides from reggae to death metal we've got it

the lastimes rock my socks!

I thought you said good bands?

so if they suck which they dont, what would you suggest panty?

More pop-oriented acts are Pluto, Goodshirt, Goldenhorse, the Fast Crew, Scribe, the Black Seeds... there are a lot of festivals each summer but the Big Day Out is the biggest with around 40-45,000 people each year and a handful of international headliners (it is also held in Australia).

dude you could actually post a little more than that

umm, ok
also watch SOMETHING ON TV
Triangle TV - Monday 7 March 8.30pm
Footage of live gigs around Auckland hosted by yours truly.

wish I could get triangle on my Tv..I'd love to see you on tv

Practically everyone in Auckland CAN get triangle on their TVs - they just havent bothered to tune the channel yet. (unless you live in a valley or something)

Check out Triangle TVs website for how to tune.
It will take you 5 minutes.

You could check out These Four Walls (www.thesefourwallsband.com) or Like a storm (www.likeastrom.com) if you want some heavy rock.

Check out the NZ top 40 to see what sort of music is popular.

Looking at this week's chart, I see that:
- exactly a quarter is the songs are from NZ artists.
- hip hop/pop is hugely popular.
- foreign female singers are popular, but there are no local equivalents (Brooke Frasier is too serious and sedate to get in the same category as, say, Gwen Stefani, Ashanti, or Kelly Clarkson)
- rock n roll is here to stay - it will never die, etc.
