vinyl pressers in nz

vinyl pressers/cutters in new zealand...anyone got contacts?

Forums: NZ Music,

No point dude - get it pressed overseas

Peter King is the only option in NZ, and he doesn't actually make Vinyl, rather Polyvinyl bicarbonate Lathe's.. his advantage is that you can get an album cut in extremely low numbers (like 20 copies) at a good price, so if your band is looking to release something, but can't really front much money - he's def. an option.

i had a really good experience with Peter, doing a tiny run - i visited him personally and came away the same day with a couple test records, then returned the next with the completed order. previous lathe's have a spotty history, they can deteriorate a lot fast than regular vinyl, and there have been a few released with awful sound quality, but thankfully now he's got himself together a lot more and his results are much more consistant (though admittedly still not high-fidelity quality). He's a real character, a little bit nutty but a friendly, helpful chap

I too had a great experience visiting Peter back in the day when he lived on the outskirts of Geraldine. Hell, once we'd had a cup of tea and a natter, we were straight out to the shed for a test pressing. He then gave me a lift into Geraldine in his V8 double-barrelled master-blaster ute. I think he enjoyed scaring the locals at any opportunity.
You are right that the quality back in the day was patchy at best, and I've no idea what the sound of his pressings are like these days.
The King Rec contact details you pasted above are good, and the website link I have supplied is for the uber-fans, put together by a Californian man they call Dan Vallor, which features.. oh a ton of material. Not least of which is an ass-load of King Records ordering/shipping information as well as the incomplete King lathe-cut discography. What really bakes my cookies though, is the New Zealand Underground Music Archive. Have fun.

Okay, and favourite saying of today: "Like a whippet between the wickets"

thanks for the help guys, and jez: your lack of conviction is apalling dude. Honestly...........
