This extract from the 'NZ's Best Drummers' forum.......

// Greta (Anderson) -ex superette (mainly based on the fact all my male friends have had a crush on her at some point, and theres a lack of really great female drummers)

// Just take it for granted that their a hell of alot of talented females in this country, before you start the "best female drummer" and "best female vocalist" catergories.

I said
Alright, I'll start a female drummer one now then. I only know of a few.

If you dont wanna read this forum no ones making you Tama, true?

Well actually reading them is pretty unavoidable if you're interested in reading the other forums.

ok, drummer from The Coolies, even thou it wasn't techinally hard (I don't care about that), the stuff she was coming up with interesting, which I like.
Drummer from Batrider quite cool too, drummer from Chugganut was interesting too, even thou I didn't like their music that much.
From what I hear the drummer from Just One Fix is quite good too

aye tama bro- there's no 'u' at the end of 'tho'. that would make it 'thou', as in thou art stupid, and cannot spell.

Kat from Foamy ed and Ally from FiveDollarFee

ok, thanks maniac.........

definitely ally from FDF

G force from Just one fix and After Forever is a pretty wicked drummer, at least on the couple of times I've seen her. I'd say she'd be considered a wicked drummer full stop.
Whick brings me to wondering, why bring gender into the question Zippy?

// Whick (which) brings me to wondering, why bring gender into the question Zippy?
Because theres already a 'Nz's Best drummer' forum that was 99 percent males, and as you'll read at the start of this one it was said there was few really good female drummers.
No reason really

Interesting, hadn't thought of that. I reckon girls can be as good as the boys and often are, not like having more testosterone makes you better at music, but it brings an interesting question bout the numbers perhaps- maybe more male musos in NZ? A hugely disproportionate number?

I can remember going back through old guitar for the practicing musician mags a few years ago and finding an ongoing argument in the letters page over 'Sexist' Dean guitar ads (talking mid 80s magazines and bikini clad models holding guitars) the 'Non Sexist' argument was that music was a male market with approx 85% of musos male. Don't know how accurate figures were but I wonder if it is still true today?

Change 'Often' to 'usually' or something else that makes it read like there isn't a difference in competency based on gender, as not deliberately implied. Cheers.

check out the Drum Connexions magazine, I think their latest issue has a whole section on female drummers, check it out at your local music shop or Trademe.co.nz

The Shrugs (still current?) drummer is wicked, she'd have to be up there definitely.

That's Natalie McKelvey. She's paid her dues in a number of Hamilton bands and does indeed have the drumming skillz. (Though I actually prefer the Shrugs old drummer, Chris, cos he was fierce.)

I thought Natilie was still really fierce. shes looked like shes been beating the crap out of the drums as much as playing them in the times ive seen her.

The Shrugs are kool.

The number one NZ female drummer is THE CHICK ON THE GLASSONS AD, for sure.

she's not NZder, she from US, New York I think.
So you can't count her

Yep...Sivan, shes from New York in a band called Demander, I think.

I havent seen the add, but I asked a drummer friend of mine in Auckland if she was good...he said she was "shit". I'll have to check her out before I can say that myself

I saw in the bassist forum you were in Mjuica Babushka? So you would be playing with K road Queens now?? If so, I've seen you play a couple times recently, you're not bad either!

// So you would be playing with K road Queens now??

Yeah, Im Ingrid...
Thanx buddy! :) theres only one other member from M'juica (Kat)... she's in America now.
K'Road Queens r playin Town Hall Hotel, Melbourne on Friday... come down and introduce urself if u can make it.

Gig guides say my guitarist gave me the wrong info! Slaps!!!!

The correct date is the 5th of March, Saturday... we're playin with Firewitch.

Im there, hey check out what someone said in your bands forum

// Freaking excellent gig. Go the Queens! Pulled out an old Misfits cover as well. These guys rock. Show me a better chick drummer in Melbourne than Ingrid & I’ll break out a nice shiny cutlery set & eat my hat, with a touch of relish on the side. Now if you could break out Gary Numan’s ‘Cars’ once in a while I’d be in heaven…

I'll second that

OMG! cool ;)

C ya Saturday bro
