I just saw on Juice that 48 May are having a benefit gig to buy more gear cause somebody stole all of their gear.

Some bands just can't take a hint.

Guys, it sux getting your gear stolen - we know coz we've had a fair amount of ours stolen from a secure storage area several months ago...luckily we were insured!

I knew Jon personally, and he's a good guy...but yes, their music is a little too poppy for me! You don't know what their circumstances are, so don't hold it against them if they need to raise money for new equipment - not all NZ bands can afford insurance...and check out how expensive some of their stuff was - they had the luxury of running with wireless mics!

No offense dude, but if their gear was so damn expensive then they really should have been insured! They seem to operate as a business so their insurance could be written off in tax as it is anyway - just strikes me as kinda dumb thats all...

I'm not saying you guys deserved it at ...

I'm not saying you guys deserved it at all - just saying if you've got really expensive gear, and have a record lable or similar you should be able to get a pretty good deal on insurance from most companies...

Also as I said before, if you are GST registered and operating as business then you should be able to actually write off insurance costs as a tax break and get all the money back for it.

Basically just look into what options are there, for someone in your position it's worth the hour of research if it could save you thousands of dollars in the long run.
