capitalrecordings HQ doesn't look like it houses a record company. There's not even enough room for a glass top table to snort your coke off. Buy more records people!
BTW, cheers for the pic of me next to the article?! Haha.. I'm the new capitalrecordings posterboy! Or the latest member of Die! Die! Die!? Wish they'd told me.
they're also chasing other artists or so i'm told.
what is it about the label? what has made it such a great place to sign with? to my knowledge they don't have much capital to put into recording, or do they? and all these non-electronica bands have sprung out of nowhere, why capital?
There are very smart, savvy and experienced music people behind the scenes, who share a broad range of positive and productive philosophies towards the local industry. A very professional outfit. They do right by the artists and the deals, and I think the artists are respecting that.
As far as the 'rock', well things change with the wind. They share office space with NZM HQ so we've been mashing the playlist, injecting a few intro's here and there from our dirty rock friends. But no really, they know what they like, and what is good before most do and thats the key.
//they don't have much capital to put into recording, or do they?
The way I understood it (for indie labels in general) was the band pays for the recording & the label pays for the production of cds & promotion (which is paid back by the band through royalties). Can anyone confirm/deny without giving away ya trade secrets?

pretty much thats how it'd go i guess, i know the phoenix foundation have been self-funded. but as dust said, early interest is the key

Basically, they don't need to make money from their releases. They have the wonderful freedom to be able to sign artists who won't nessacarily will sell boxloads of records but will make good fucken records. kinda like low hum..which is why you'll start to see a pattern in the artists on their label and whom i take on tour.
