YUS, I cant wait to see these mothers live on the jazz stage at Cuba Street Carnival, its gonna be rockin, the whole things gonna rock ass...excited, just quietly, fukkin stoked...(;
They are playing in Ak on Wednesday 6th March at The Galatos Theatre. Rumour has it Demarnia's brother Jodie (Dark Tower) might put a band together as support!
Saw them at cuba carnival (weeks ago now), they were damn good! Very trippy, easy to go into a trance while listening to these guys.
It was quite funny though - most of it is kinda depressing, so all the happy cuba carnival people turned into silent, frowning people - the whole crowd went silent and was looking at the ground, it was classic.
But big ups to cloudboy, a great band to see live!
niceguyeddie, i've got a copy of that, and pet (an earlier 7") + some stuff Demarnia's done with Alastair Galbraith which you may enjoy if you've heard the EP - it's quite a bit different to the cloudboy of today
have you heard mink's stuff? i believe there's a video on their artist page. mink are particularly special becuase contrary to popular belief Eye TV did not produce NZ's first enhanced CD, Mink did - i recommend it, it's got shitloads of rare footage, called "For My Mink" and it's got a pink cover with a porcelein piggy on the front
obviously there after the EP, just go to the Arc label website and e-mail them. these things can ussually pop up at real groovy or marbecks occassionaly and you could as if they could get in it from there
The Lloyds are a talented bunch: Demarnia in Cloudboy, Jody in Dark Tower and Kezzy (nee Lloyd) in Zest...oh theres another sister but i dunno if shes musical, there may be other siblings im not sure

the second solo album by Cloudboy's Johannes.
Johannes Contag¹s ?O?TE / Sleepytime cycle of albums and performances reaches a new stage with "Sleepytime vol 2: Schlafwandler". Completing the arc of alpha-wave inducing ambiences of his first release "you are feeling sleepy", Johannes¹ latest offering explores the idea of aural sleepwalking. His latent soundtracks zoom in on the in-between spaces and afterthoughts of traditional instrumentation as well as delving into the meditative dimensions of sound synthesis.
Johannes Contag has been producing mind-bending music in New Zealand since the mid-90s, when he began working on Demarnia Lloyds Cloudboy project in Dunedin. While most of his time since has been taken up by production duties for this avant-pop collective (which in the last few years has reinvented itself as an electro-acoustic live soundtrack ensemble), he did manage to self-release a blissful album of ambient miniatures by the name of "you are feeling sleepy" in 1998. This was re-released by Monkey Records in 2001.
During his years in Dunedin, Contag has also worked on recordings by David Kilgour, Jay Clarkson, Sola Monday and Mink, as well as collaborating live with these artists. He is now based in Wellington, preparing to relocate to Berlin with Cloudboy.
Like Cloudboy, Johannes live is a multi-medial affair, featuring video backdrops and effective lighting. True to the spirit of ambient music, many of his live sets are improvised, based around themes that may be derived from a filter curve or even creep out of the unlikely depths of a casiotone. Combining archaic synthesizers and modern laptop sound processing techniques with a flute (sometimes also melodica, bass guitar and accordion), the scope of sounds produced is always captivating.
Come and experience the the only live Sleepytime NZ performance before Jo heads off to Berlin to join Cloudboy on a European tour. The CD will be available on the door at a very friendly price.

I am trying to find zone 1 CDs (North America). A pretty good compilation CD is available from a local college radio station but I would likes something with more depth. Are these available?
The compilation CD was entitled "The Dunedin Sound" and contained tracks from The Clean, The Puddle, Plagal Grind, Jay Clarkson, The Verlaines, Dead C, David Mitchell. Alistair Galbraith, The Renderers, The Chills.
Enough to wet my appetite...
You might want to take a listen to the netcast from KFJCs
The cds you buy from nzmusic.com/smoke will work on your player in N. Americker. DVDs should still work on a computer. NZMusic/smoke have a great selection of Flying Nun/Dunedin bands. I see that they are out of Cloudboy, though.
