a KiwiFM would be excellent. 450 bands enter the rockquest every year. it would be awexome to hear some of those bands on a music channe. i would listen to it

NZ music week is always one of my favourite times on Bfm. I'll definietly be changing to Kiwi. As long as they don't play too much of the feelers. Or zed. That shit ain't nz music, it's generic crap. While I'm on it, I don't want to hear no minuit either.

Bad Idea no doubt. Eventually this won't last and we'll have a NZ Music overload sooner or later. It's like forcing every month to be NZ Music Month making it less exciting, and you just don't do that. Let's hope they come to their senses like Shihad and ressurect Channel Z and go with global + NZ Music.
I like NZ music, make no mistake, but I also like a lot of music from overseas as well. They need to learn when to realise that NZ music is being broadcasted enough, when it is thriving and when it is doing extremely well. They also need to realise when they're taking NZ music pride too far. Scrapping a great station like Channel Z is taking it too far. Channel Z was the only station that was perfect, it was the only station I knew of that had a youth talkback show, 30% NZ music, and great overseas music as well. They need to learn that NZ music isn't the only music. If I was rich, I would buy the rights to Channel Z and ressurect it. But alas I don't. Channel Z was at it's best when it was scrapped, thanks mate, now I have to find myself a station that plays good music most of the time like Z did.
They could have atleast kept channel z there is NOTHING now that caters for us people that really listened to it. Where our we going to get our fix of all those international bands that noone else plays. Riot was pretty fucking good for the punk :) *Memories*

You never know, the gap opened in the market by the loss of Channel Z could well be the catalyst for a new, similar, better and more profitable station.

I listened for about an hour tonight and they played it pretty safe, as you'd expect for a first night. But it was a pretty decent mix. They played some Bressa Creeting Cake and Cassette, that was appreciated. I reckon off to a good start.
I think having a pure NZ music channel is brilliant, and I think if it calls on the vast pool of Kiwi talent of the past and mixers it with the present, you'll have a blinding station. It'll give a few of the smaller local kiwi bands airplay too hopefully. I've checked out the new webpage, but that's it one page and a voting form from what I can make out ..?? which is a shame, guess they haven't had time to do a full site yet. They are running a risk not playing international artists, which maybe a problem when your competing against Usher, Eminem, Britney, Franz ferdinand and a million other huge overseas acts being played on other stations ... hope the advertising revenue comes in and the risk pays off, fingers crossed ..!
Just thought I'd add my 2c worth. Just had to say in reply to Blink suggesting listening to Bnet radio; would be a great idea but down in christchurch theres no real equivalent. Sure, theres RDU tryin to part of Bnet but it can be very substandard at times. Mind you, I've picked up on a more than a few artists for the first time on RDU e.g. the vastly underated Videokid, and early Goldfrapp. BUT now what are the CH-CH peeps to do?
100% Kiwi. GREAT theory. Hope like hell they can pull it off, as Channel Z had just the right mix. I don't relish the thought of wading through Britney, "X-tina", Avril and crap hip-hop on ZM and the edge, old stonky hair-metal and average Acca Dacca on the rock, or any of the classic hit stations to get to fresh new international Alt acts. Will we ever hear the White Stripes, the Vines, The Mars Volta, Foo Fighters, or even Ash again? Sure theres the Rock but Personally I don't buy into the YEAH-MATE-YEAH-GOT-SOME-NEW-DRENCH-FOR-THE-CATTLE-YEAH-MY-CAR-NAH-YEAH-NAH GET-HARD attitude its got half the time. I just seriously hope another station steps up to the plate damn soon. Will we even hear less mainstream Kiwi music on this new-fangled station?
