The cops were very aggresive and arrested people claiming we crossed imaginary lines. They used capsicum (OC) spray on Bobo which is the first time that we know that such spray has been used at a political protest in Aotearoa. They severly injured Fillie spraining her wrist and bruising her arms and legs causing abrasions.
The behaviour of police and security at the protest was both verbally and physically violent towards a peaceful protest group that included young children.
The main intention of the local group was to draw their communities' attention to existence of the trees; this was achieved. Future actions should be more effective in showing that the trees are unwanted now that locals are aware of their presence.

They/you were on private property (well, I will assume that it is, seeing it has a research crop on it for some company), going to willingly destroy tree's which you had no right in touching.
//How is it possible that New Zealanders have been saying ‘No!’ to G.E. for more than five years, yet this project is being funded with taxpayers’ money?
This, to me, is crap too. I am for GE, and I know a lot of other people are too. It could benefit humanity greatly. Had this person said '...some New Zealanders have been saying no...", I would not have taken offense to it.

if your a politician who makes laws that severely oppress the citizens - including the right to defend themselves from a mugger or home invasion attack - you suposed to serve - you should get into ABSOLUTELY SEVERE trouble for treason. Big mistake abolishing the death penalty for Treason in New Zealand, cos treason does not only mean fighting the govt. it can also mean the Govt. making laws to oppress the people they supposed to serve and protect.

Really - I can't find any evidence that the site in question is public property. It may be owned by the governement but that does not mean it is public property. As far as I understand the legislation (which you will no doubt be familar with) any field trials may not be held on public property (as in property owned by the government which is acessible to the public in general without special permission) due to the security requirements for field tests (to stop people breaking in and contaiminating the test and possibly spreading the substance in question outside of the test area), which would indicate that the land in question is not public property and as such the protesters were trespassing.

A bunch of people with no experience or training is handling GE material decided to march on a location which (I assume) would have been set up as a test bed for containment to try and 'decontaminate' the area?
WTF were they gonna do? Burn the trees (and propagate the material over a wide area as carried by wind currents)? Up root them and cart them off (and propogate materail all over the general area)?
I have no problems with people standing up for their veiws, but this is just stupidity! How could they not have realised that by interfering with the trial they would be signifcantly increasing the chances of GMO material being spread into areas out side of the test area?
As far as NZ being strongly against GE - they can shut the fuck up. They don't speak for me, and they're certainly ignorant of the issues if they think that banning GE is going to help NZ in the long run. I don't agree with GE material being used commerically but I am certainly for more research into it as it's potential is huge!
Enough for now.

I think people getting arrested could potentially get more media interest. but is it good media? that is for the viewer to work out.
hi Chris!

From the site you referenced in your original post...
'Four people were arrested today while attempting to decontaminate the field trial of Genetically modified trees'
So what exactley do they consider decontaminate? I'm guessing that would indicate they were attempting to destroy the subjects. As I said I have no problem with people expressing their views, just as long as they actually think about what they are doing as opposed to just having so knee-jerk reation becuase they don't have the patience to sit down and look at both sides of the story.
