How was everyones BDO??

Mine was fine until I passed out during Beastie Boys set, guess to heat stroke, I'm quite burnt, my sun screen did work very well, I guess it 2yrs old, funny thing itself melted a bit in my pocket, strange??
I'll post more later today, if I feel better, still not 100%, guess I'll have to sleep it off!!

Forums: NZ Music,

//my sun screen did work very well

that should be 'didn't' work very well

A true bloke .. think I've got some sun cream lying around somewhere that's a good few years old .. mind you I do live in London, not too much need for it .. but should I ever need it I'm sure it'll be, ah yeah she's fine, been in the bottle can't possibly go off ... Maybe I should bin it when I get home tonight while I'm thinking of it. ....

I think it only lasts 6-12mo at the outside...

The weather was just so hot, couldnt handle it..I felt sick, dehyrated and with a headache almost the whole day, and I ended up sitting in the stadium waiting til the sun went down abit .Slipknot and System of a down were choice, so were the Streets.
I can't say the BDO was an enjoyable experience for me..the sun just killed it for me..I didn't get to see alot of the bands I was so there to see in the daytime!! and so much for the sunscreen I slapped on yesterday, I woke up this morning looking like burnt toast from yesterday!..
I am still very tired..got sore as legs..after all that jumping around like a 'flea' in the moshpit when Slipknot and System were playing...

and that was my BDO 05' xox

yea it was ridiculously hot during the day, especially in the moshpits. still had a pretty good time tho.

i reckon they shud put up more sheltered areas to hide in

just a detour..has anyone noticed how kiwis spend all year whinging about how cold it is and how there's never enough sunny weather...
and then they finally have a few sunny days, and everyone complains that its too hot.....

Yeah i reckon. Im SO sunburnt right now. My nose is a shade of red i never even knew existed. But i had a great day. The checks were wicked, and the have's new stuff was sounding awsome too. Slipknot scared the shit out of me.

i'm sort of gutted i couldn't go this year (the last two were great) but i'm holding out hope for the david byrne show (cashflow pending) so i might get a trip to sunny auckland still this year

slipknot was awesome. im not exactly a beefy rugged chick, so i spent most of the time trying to stay upright, but many people helped me, so was all good, a few of my guy mates were to scared to go in the slipknot moshpit, but i went, i conquered, and i have the bruises and chunk taken outta my foot to show for it. brilliant!!!!!!!-maybe even most enjoyable mosh i have ever experienced? not being sarcastic, a bit of pain jsut adds to the funness.

Hi Maniac- I'm glad to say that I survived the moshpit during Slipknots set too. A friend of mine warned me earlier that things could get ruthless in there, but I actually enjoyed it, it was something new and different .It was abit scary for me at first though, the band seemed very uh..angry like so angry..and the people in mosh pit seemed to be getting harsh as the songs were playing..there were so many people in the crowd that were tall..I thought for a moment there I was gonna get knocked out by people from all sides when Slipknot and System were playing.
It was my first BDO ever, and also the first time that I was in a moshpit on that day.I'm happy I came away from the BDO with at least one bruise. Most of the people in the moshpit that I came across were generally nice, like they would 'say 'sorry' if they bump into you by accident..at least that was my experience..

yeah they were great aye? i keep reading all this stuff bout how slipknot fans are arseholes but they were jsut so freindly and helpful, like i said i came away from the bdo with a really good feeling about the so-called 'angry suicidal bastard bogan' youth of NZ, they made my day. thank you all. why do peopke whine so much about the metal/rock fans, when they are generally great, fun people, without mentioning the losers who yell out in the streets at girls yo biatchhhh and rap at them, thinking they own chicks? its pathetic.
im glad u had a good time though,i agree it was really fun moshing!!!

ok i realise how many typos i made in that post :p oops.....

I'm only marginally sunburned, though I do look like rudolph again. Sigh.

My BDO was great. It started off kinda gimpy. I thought "What the fuck am I doing heeeeeere?" in a whingey inner monologuey way. Especially during Deja Voodoo when I realised how much I hate them... why am I heeeeere?

Thankfully Pluto weren't on too late in the day... and from there I thoroughly enjoyed the Phoenix Foundation. THEIR MUSIC COOLS YOU DOWN! It really does.

Highlight was without a doubt the Polyphonic Spree. They were magical. MAGICAL!

I'm not photographer.. but I did manage to hold my camera still(ish) for these.

those are quite good shots you took, better than any of the photos I took that day

Slipknot and Shihad need new sound guys. Or tech's. Or whatever.
The sound was bollox.

THE FUCKING JOCKS IN THE MOSH PIT THAT THINK PUSHING MOSH PITS OVER AND SENDING KIDS TO HOSPITAL IS FUN NEED TO FUCKING DIE.

However, Hatebreed's pit was all the rage.

Blah. Big Day Out '05.

like the poor guy in the soad pit. sad indeed.

but the people in the pits were all nice to me. possibly because im a girl. but really, on the whole, i was impressed with the amazing niceness, laidbackness, and funnuess of the people around the bands i saw (no hiphop or anything). i might get trracked down and beaten up for saying this, but rockers are definitely the best people. none of that stupid lets rap and make noises until we pass that chick or yell out hey biatttttch, coz thats not cool....but i must admit to having had a happy warm nondruginduced *glow* from all the greatness that is the nz rock music scene. enough hippylike rambling, i here end this ramble.

*fun-ness, not funnues that is.

//THE FUCKING JOCKS IN THE MOSH PIT THAT THINK PUSHING MOSH PITS OVER AND SENDING KIDS TO HOSPITAL IS FUN NEED TO FUCKING DIE.

hmmm....looks like my warnings where sadly ignored.

//like the poor guy in the soad pit. sad indeed.

man down, man down, mummy, man down

fire in the all!!! Darron rules!!! :P

Fuck that was insane...I'll never listen to Sultans of Swing again without thinking of that crazy time!

my bdo was great, thankyou very much for asking. the nice guys in the slipknot pit who helped me stay on my feet and who let me sit on them were just lovely, thanks if youre reading this, and they thoroughly made up for my stalker who followed me round keeping on trying to feel up my arse. serves me right for wearing a skirt and fishnets, i guess. i was thoroughly intrigued by the cute goth guy with the one blueywhite contact and one normal eye, he was hot. so were about 5 thousand other guys there too.
slipknot and soad pits were mad, highlight of my day. i have soo many bruises,so much sunburn, and a large chunk of skin and flesh out of the back of my ankle thanks to them :) then some guys recognised me at mcdonalds afterwards and i felt proud. i guess i did look kinda unique, and was one of the slightly insane moshers. the heat, meh, it was intense and i overheat easily coz of a blood circulation problem, but i wsas fine. quit ya whingeing everyone, in the pit you just get over it and concentrate on enjoying yourself.

system of a down was definately my highlight.

and no sunburn for me :P

lucky :p i now have to wear a bikini top instead of a bra, to match the un-burnt parts of me. had i my own house, i would just not wear clothes on the burnt bits, but i live in a house with 8 others, so i have to be at least semi-civilised. i am uncomfortable, and cannot stretch my right leg coz the bruises seem to stretch and hurt when i do so :p

My picks were..

THE HIVES

SYSTEM OF A DOWN

THE POLYPHONIC SPREE

THE MINT CHICKS

Though I rate this as the big day out that was least about the music. Poor scheduling and too many people there to be seen than to experience live music - the stagnant crowds of undirected fumbling made getting between stages difficult.

However I did have a good time making radio with Matt and Gareth from Deja Voodoo and big up's, props and much respect to the East Stand toilets - they were a blessing.

so many awful bands. powderfinger were boring. why was i even there? slipknot were even funnier than 4 man bob. and they were angry! roooaaaarrrrrr. i didnt get it. system of a down looked boring and who gave their guitarist a microphone? i used to like some beatie boys but they were just kinda boring too. i listened to a few songs from grinspoon but it just wasnt like it used to be. pluto were good. le tigre were funny. not in a slipknot kind of way though.

are shihad the only band that can work a crowd?

my conclusion is i am glad i went so i can laugh at my friends who like slipknot.

and i didnt realise so many system of a down fans were gay. they all sounded very excited when the guitarist told them he wanted to "fuck them in the arse". get backstage boys.

dont forget he also said fuck mtv and fuck the government

yeah & we don't even get mtv!! even thou c4 does play some of it

yeah when he said that i was like wtf nz dont got any mtv C4 but i guess he just hates mtv fullstop

Highlights.
Kid Koala. wicked...particulary the louis armstrong breakdown.

Money Mark..some very entertaining moments. Loved the wierd version of insects are all around us.

The Mint Chicks. I am re-sold on this band. I complained like a motherfucker as did everyone else about that stupid "cat" sign blocking the essential stage last year...Kody wins "man of the year" by bringing out a chainsaw and sawing that sign down, made my fucking day.

The Polyphonic Spree. After the funny shit that was Slipnot, The Polyphonic spree were mf genius! I still can't decide wether i'd rather see them of the flaminglips at a bdo again.

Le Tigre. Ace...though heaps better at the KA the night before, even with the major sound difficulties they were having...Le Tigre would have benifited from playing after the mint chicks with that stupid sign cut down.

The Hives. Hell Yeah...they kickstarted what had been a pretty mellow morning. Much respect for their live show.

Trinity Roots. Aw man..some sweet sounds coming there. The quietest crowd i've heard at a bdo yet. Silent, hanging on every note.

The Beastie Boys. No Sleep till Brooklyn! yeah! good times, that was really enjoyable.

Blues Explosion..mildly dissapointed, but i was too tired from being at the bdo from 9am to watch more then half a dozen songs. Still a highlight though.

Lowlights
The Music. The only band on the main stages that made the photographers leave before the end of 3 songs when we have to...they were terrible.
The Streets. They weren't shit...but they wouldn't finish and that accent was killing me.
Hate Breed. Just plain shit.
Evermore. I didn't watch them, but I can imagine it was pretty average.

// Kid Koala. wicked...particulary the louis armstrong breakdown.

I only caught the end of Kid Koala but he was very, very cool. Oh the mashing.

Money Mark's set was strange, interesting and unintentionally refreshing. He is a good rambler and was very lost.

Atmosphere were ok as well. Pluto, Dimmer, the end of the Music that I caught (though the singer's voice is annoying as heck), The Hives and the weather were the other highlights for me.

I was disappointed in Shihad though, kinda sloppy and what was with Jon Toogood's comments?

hey Blink you were standing right beside taking photos when the Fanatics were playing, you probaly don't remember but I had a red Qotsa t-shirt on, didn't want to bother you since you were working.

// hey Blink you were standing right beside taking photos when the Fanatics were playing, you probaly don't remember but I had a red Qotsa t-shirt on, didn't want to bother you since you were working.

haha..working. i don't call what i do work, and i always perfer talking shit. next time, say hey.

ok I guess I should have said busy than working, plus the music was too loud to say anything, and you moved between songs. Plus I thought you might have been at the KA gig the next night, I would have said hi then

//and i always perfer talking shit

You don't talk enough shit to me at ALH gigs, you till operating-doorman-dancing-photo thing you. And you still owe me that bootleg.

// You don't talk enough shit to me at ALH gigs, you till operating-doorman-dancing-photo thing you. And you still owe me that bootleg.

haha. ok jimi sit down and we can have a heart to heart next time i'm in dunners. I bought that bootleg with me last month! like we organised...had it with me the whole time, you never came to the show... punk!

tama...yeah, i was going to go to sat's show at the KA, but my gf was feeling poorly in the morning, so we just started driving home.

//haha. ok jimi sit down and we can have a heart to heart next time i'm in dunners. I bought that bootleg with me last month! like we organised...had it with me the whole time, you never came to the show... punk!//

maybe you should bring tomble as well

Well aren't we all comedians then.

//we can have a heart to heart next time i'm in dunners. I bought that bootleg with me last month! like we organised...had it with me the whole time, you never came to the show... punk!

No heart to heart needed, I like to dance too when it tickles me, and I only wish I could operate a till. We organised it? As in I sent you an email that you didn't reply to and assumed I was coming to the gig, or I got the email drunk and deleted it?

//maybe you should bring tomble as well

That almost doesn't deserve a response. But learn to share punk, respect 5 years of waiting!!!! :)

i recall not bringing it to one show and saying i'd bring it next time. (yeah, i'd take that call with a grain of salt as well) but i did actually bring it. 2 copies actually. i don't reply to emails when i'm stressed on deadline. half this country hates me cause i don't reply to their emails, the other half hates me cause i'm beautiful.

ok ok. well I'll be coming to the Dunners shows again. So closer to the time, I'll email you, and you can just reply 'yes' or something. I'm salivating here

p.s your photos are phucking amazing, are they on sale at all? and i hate you for both of those reasons.

no photos for sale...you better be at the future shows man. I'm serious.

//That almost doesn't deserve a response. But learn to share punk, respect 5 years of waiting!!!! :) //

listen to don brash man, you can't that shit when you're in the wrong place, people in new zealand have been moving to better area's since it was first colonised.
come to wellington bitch
and find something interesting to say ;)

ooooooooouch

you of all people should know what it's like to be a drunk fanboy hahaha

we really need msn

I think I might have been out, on the ground for 10-15mins (which is a shit of a lot time to be passed out for), I just wanted to know what was happening around me at the time, I wonder if anyone did anything or noticed at all. Thank god no one stole anything from me.
But when I came threw I standing at the barrier where the beasties came thou, pretty cool since they were only a few steps away from me, I was just too dazzed at the time

fuck my neck is sore, blisters on the back of my neck & I think on top of head.
Good its a lot cooler here in invers

managed to not get a lot of sunburnt but got sunburnt on my arms a lil bit i wore my tight jeans (big mistake) as it was so hot i thought i was gonna pass out spent so much money on buying frujus at $2.50 i think i must have spent like 10 bucks on that alone.Highlights for me were the donnas it was good to check them out and their drummer played with a broken wrist they didnt really have a good mosh but they played a good set. Also shihad managed the squeeze my way to the fron of the mosh.Did anyone see the guy who got up in the crowd during shihad and was like airguitaring to one of their songs? he was crazy! although i wished they had a longer set so they could play more of their good songs such as you again etc then system of a down i was so stoked when they opened with the prison song fuck their mosh was scary my boyfriend ran for his life outta there. The chemical brothers were like one of the best acts i saw that day!!!!!!!! it was nice having to sweat it all out in the boiler room and it was a good end to the night but ended up leaving 15 mins early cos it was way to hot we had to get outta the boiler room.Saw one of my random mates and we managed to get to the side of The hives mosh when they were playing and stood there cracking up laughing at the lead singer man he talked so much funny shit. The d4 played a loud set i was in the stands having lunch when they started my ears were fucking ringing, really wanted to see deja voodoo but my bf and i couldnt manage to make it pass the mass amount of crowds towards the green stage and the essential stage so we missed out :( over all good bdo i enjoyed it more than last years cos this time i didnt lose my shoe!!!!!! and managed to live through the mosh pits even though there was that circle shit happening in some the weather was good too hot though saw some of the beastie boys and managed the catch the last few songs of slipknots set

The Mint Chicks were my highlight. Deja Voodoo were funny, Shapeshifter were rad, the Phoenix Foundation were lovely, Le Tigre were fuckin cool, Kid Koala was choice, the Polyphonic Spree were mesmerising and joyous, the Beasties were cool and I was too shattered by the time the Blues Explosion were on. Perfect day, apart from the exhaustion. Cher Auckland... you really put it on for us! After a sublime afternoon at the beach I was gutted to wake up as my flight landed in rainy Wellington.
