Just to let you know, this week on Squeeze we have Minuit and Pine talking about their albums and touring together, if you haven't heard them, watch the show and if you have then watch the show as well.
these guys played a real sweet gig at bodega the other weekend, and i was real impressed.
like the fusion of nine inch nails and portishead, funked out and mega suave. choysa.
i saw them at the gathering and a chch gig, and the venue was so packed, people were climbing up on the outside of the windows! i don't think there is anything like them in nz at the moment - dance music with a dark twinge and massive beats. yeah
I really wish I had taken the time to see Minuit @ Bodega - saw them on Squeeze and I think they're right up my alley. I hope someone can confirm that they are in fact recording an album at the moment - and if they're going to be doing any more gigs soon, maybe that info could be shared here.
To answer my own question - minuit have self released an EP called Lucky - just four tracks, available from SmokeCD's for $12. They have another track on the Loop 3 compilation, which I have also ordered. Will say more when they turn up.
i know that they are coming back down to chch this week, and i have heard that they are playing in dnd after that. i guess they'll be back in welly some time soon. i have heard lots of people say that minuit is doing an album, i hope it's true, and not some evil, vicious rumour...

I saw Minuit on Space a while back, thought the vocalist must have been English, but saw them again on Squeeze a week or so later. She's not English.

Its refreshing to hear something so different in NZ, I like it and thats my opinion. Its cool if you dont like it, 'cause fuck, it would be a boring world if we all had the same opinion now then wouldnt it.
I am looking forward to their album - its the only type of 'dance' music I will ever like.
There really is little point in getting into the great debate about accents and vocal styles, but I was under the impression that all singers stretch or contract sounds to fit within the rhythms of the song they are performing.
Tell you what I will " force" myself to go to have another listen to them along with Pine next Wednesday here in Nelson and when I get back I'll let you know if I think it's contrived or brilliance ( hint I as to what I might think.... I've had my Tickets booked for weeks)
Oh dear, I never did get back to write my impressions of that night, re the accent, no there isn't one, what it is like I suggested in my earlier post is a manipulation of some vowel sounds to cut down on the explosive nature of the following hard sound.... it becomes et and et is beautiful.

The new vid for menace - apparantly the drummer dude used to be in Ray Colombos's band back in 1963 and they found him lurking at the rock shop in Christchurch and got him in the vid!

Having seen them countless times live i found the cd too clean / polished Ruth's voice seemed underdone, but go listen before you buy. I am still more than happy to have it in my collection, try and see if you can find some of the singles, i liked them alot, have a dig around I think there is an email addy somewhere on this site or thiers, see if you can still get them directly from the band
I love the CD, think its one of the best produced in a while, particularly towards the end. I was amazed by the video I saw on C4 last night for Except You - it had Ruth meeting this bunch of circus freaks on a beach: they attack her, do the traditional circus trick of cutting her in two, and then stuff her torso and head into a suitcase and her legs into another. A cracker.
yeah looks like a solid lineup there too, we Resolutioning it in Coromandel for New Years and an AKL gig with the other half of Concordian Dawn who aint at Phat 05....might see you's round christmas whats on then..
Minuit played at Southern Amp, in Christchurch on Saturday and they rock live!! I’m was wondering how they would go down with all the hard out dancing MOS punters! But they were awesome! Keep the beat up! They definitely have their own style! These guys are waaay underated live!
