Post something about Zebedee's. Local underground youth music scene. Anyone whos young and into their music will most likely have been to this place or at least heard of it. Heaps of local bands play there. Super awesome atmosphere

hey rip it up should do a story on the up-and-coming younger bands that've really started to hit form in the last few months.. i'm thinking about leper ballet, and the new originals in particular, but there's a strong hardcore scene going down too - led by sixlip

oh jeez.. well i maintain an xls spreadsheet of most of the current christchurch live bands if you want contact emails etc - http://thebigcity.co.nz/excel-chch-music.xls - its a bit out of date at the moment, but its a start..
it all comes down to going to gigs, and i don't just mean the major tours and dux de lux gigs, i mean make an effort and go to the wunderbar, harbour light, jetset lounge, media club, creation.. even the new brighton and suburban pubs are worth checking out here and there.. i tend to advertise a few shows on my website, else nzmusic is a good source of live shows.. but chch is VERY word of mouth

people don't go to gigs, so the gigs don't come anymore. and outside of crappy pub covers bands all there is are high school groups (try mountianview, & boys high music depts)

southern oscillations at castle hill (weekend 14-16/01/05 long experimental music fest. with roy montgomery headlining)
slipstream returns to the dux w/ the new originals (20/01/05)
leper ballet w/ the new originals at the dux (29/01/05)
joseph veale is the new guy at creation, and is looking for acts to fill up their upcoming roster.. i'll be organising a few gigs for this
..which brings me to my next thing - i wanna put together an 'up-and-comers' gig with just-left-high-school type bands.. maybe a show-case weekend (thursday through saturday) or something, if i get enough interest. who's a good option?

Timaru needs a good venue, the loaded hogg is out, The Arowhenua hotel is a good one for outside gigs but is very underused, the lady there loves to promote nz music especially local bands, you should get hold of her
