These kind of ppl should be drowned at birth!!!
//Baaaaahahahaaa...
Its needless death - but shit happens. Yeah shit happens. Ya live on earth, ya gotta pay the rent. And the rent is putting up with earthquakes & tsunamis and volcanos and drunk meteorites etc etc...
Im in a warm house on the other side of the world where Im not affected by it what so ever. I could give money to them and get no benefit in return.
I could also feel guilty or responsible for no rational reason.
I choose to not care, not help and well...Im not gonna make other people feel guilty for not caring either.
Edit: I spose this is warrented-
I dont find it funny. I find everyone else funny. Suddenly I see no difference in moral between operah and bogans.. //

how much have you done to help? did you care about the poor and suffering in those counties before? what about africa which has been stuffed for decades? Sure the post is callaus, but they're only pointing out the reality for a lot of people. Sure I feel sad for those people and am willing to give a little, but its token and shallow, we're not going to really care in a few more weeks, mean while suffering will continue.

Australia pledges $1B towards the aid effort despite it having nowhere near as much money as the UK, and the USA (which could have dumped trillions to the aid effort) yet the NZ govt. only manages to dish out a measley $10 million to assist the relief effort - fucking oath is aunty helen on ludes or something? If NZ never wasted money on building up stupid PC scams as Kiwibank, ACC and other beaurocratic nonsense i could expect this country donate at least $200 million (Australia has 5x more people than NZ so we should equivilate that to our population). but $18 million? Helen should get off the ludes and quit wasting our money on stupid PC Nonsense such as Kiwibank, LTSA and ACC and focus on helping the millions whos lives have been suddenly and tragically altered forever, hey if Australia can spend such a large sum on relief and aid, then why cant we in Aotearoa New Zealand?

that first post is a trip.
i agree 10 or whatever million is fuck all compared to the twenty-six million they mustered for the good old boys team new zealand yacht fraternity.
At the same time i'm not convinced that money is gonna solve this one, and that maybe it is wiser to drip feed money based on progress made with the money.
call me a cynical fuck or whatver but i'm certain there must be a politician in indonesia right now dreaming up his own indonesia bank or whatever as a means to ensuring he gets his own slice of the pie from his country's misery- as an example i read how the airports were having difficulty receiving all the supplies planes because of the influx of dignateries flying in to inspect the scene...so that they had to fly in a mobile airport control tower from Singapore-that's money.
so i think man power will ultimately be more important than fast cash in ensuring these countries can get back on their feet again and that we can more than make up for this with some solid military input
An interesting statistic was released ...
An interesting statistic was released in the dead of night on BBC World the other night. After the last major earthquake requiring world wide assistance (I can't remember where, unfortunately, but it was this time last year) the world responded by making huge pledges, something like $2 billion. One year on, the total sum actually paid is $17 million.
With Howard and co, you need to remember two things. One is that it is the total package the Australian Govt plans to deliver over the next five years. Second, Howard intends tom extract benefits for Australia from this - think of the strategic benefits given to the US Government for its involvement in liberating Iraq. There are plenty of people out there suggesting that Howard has his eye on having that sort of role in the SEA area. As for the $10 mill - that's the actually cash being handed over right now, with no account taken of the value of other contributions, broken down Hercules and all.
it's interesting how people whine ...
it's interesting how people whine about the lack of money the US have 'donated' to the cause, but when you look at how much military and humanitarian help they have provided, it certainly makes up for it...apparently it is the US defence forces' biggest operation in south asia since the Vietnam War...basically theres no way that throwing billions of dollars at something like this is gonna help when basic infrastructure is not working, not to mention all the unstable political situations and various beauracracies preventing aid dollars from getting through....america already has the tools for this kind of event, so its better that they provide them, and let the other smaller nations chip in with the cash when it is needed
//[US] military and humanitarian ...
//[US] military and humanitarian help
I wonder whether they've cottoned on that being seen as the good guy in this situation is probably a better solution than the war on terror....
//stupid PC Nonsense such as Kiwibank, LTSA and ACC
Accurate as usual. ACC has been around since 1972 and brought into existence by a National Govt., it hardly seems to qualify as part of the PC putsch. Further, as Australia are so impressed with how it has worked, they're actually think of copying it because they think it will be cheaper and more efficient than their present system, it seems unlikely that ACC is stopping NZ from donating more. Kiwibank is although making a reasonable profit so ditto.
