How was your NYE?

Forums: NZ Music,

ok, at least I got paid for it which was good

the bits I can remember were top notch

Lots of rain, thunder and lightning... I loved it....

Fragmented.

Shihad was good I think, although apparently Jon called us Napier which is jaded rockstar material. But I don't remember it and refuse to talk about it so it didn't happen. Thanks to whoever gave me that glowstick.

Yeah, he did. I remember it, as did a mate of mine there.

Still, was very very good. Home Again, at midnight, with fireworks - primo! A moment (and a night) I will never forget.

its been a long time since anything was good enough to keep me up until 8am.

where did you do NYE carl?

started (eventually after some bad bad music) at the cusp. then onto the victory room for big can rans and dk then wine until it started getting light. then to the house of AKA and 'enjoyed' (i think) a few of phil's tropical mistys. i think i went to bed because i realised i had to stop drinking so i could start sobering up so i could drive at all the next day.

you forgot to give props to that absolutley fantastic breakfast, it was so amazing to come back to the house, from yet another drive to the air port to find breakfast already started.

heheh, shot to afternoon breakfasts!

..and f'ckn huge props to AKA who kicks ass!!!

New Years was wicked btw, met some awesome people and managed to be pretty dead centre for Paselode and Shihad. ..and as tahii mentioned - midnight along with fireworks and home again was fucking brilliant.

beautiful

how did i forget housewive nato?

so how did the thang go aka? all these in jokes aren't giving me clarity... i spose i could ask the internato but we're all on holidays still..

believe it or not teina and I did make it to nelson, and had a fairly large and debaucherous evening. how did we miss y'all? (we did leave early the next day)

did anyone see a cameraboy with nzm shirt on behaving suspiciously like me?

wow how did it go?
The Cusp as an event from the pov of the powers that be went extremely well, ruff numbers yet to be confirmed were in the 10k+ range...... the boy child wanted to go home after the fire works so as we left just after midnight, people were still paying to get in and running towards the stage to get the last hour's worth of music... still a good deal for $5 at that time of night.
I got back in time for the last couple of songs and many many stories of the Napier / Nelson fuck up.... as I have said more than once the two cities are easily confused... they both start with N, they both are known for apples they are both coastal towns, and are both a long drive from anywhere, remember pre announcement that everyone in the "know" was insisting that they were playing Napier, maybe in Jon's head they really were.
The reports in the next evening paper sported the head line "New Years behavior pleases Nelson police".... the NCC support for The Cusp being dependent on the Riots of 01 not being repeated, this was good news indeed, with less arrests than a normal Friday night. We should know by the end of Feb if it's all go for The Cusp '06, and if it is, start saving now, because it will be a not to miss event if plans I have heard all ready bear fruit.
So all and all the Cusp 05 wasn't that bad, the bands I liked did good, the bands I didn't like weren't any worse than I imagined. It was a good evening, best count down and climax of a new years at the cusp yet, with the rain stopping just in time, I was at the park the afternoon before and it would have been better to call it a lake, a good 2 cm on the surface and a mote about a metre wide and 50 cm metres deep around the edge, stunning that it was almost dry enough to sit on by the following evening.
I did a verbal exit poll of punters walking away from the park afterward and opinions on Shihad were spilt between fans who were over the moon and fans who felt let down,... thats normal tho isn't it? but everyone picked Paselode as the standout of the night.
The lasting images of the evening were this girl with a broken leg somehow managing to dance to Paselode all the while air guitaring along in perfect time with one of her crutches, the stage invasion of the sons during 16oz set and jimi's robotic dance style...... and jimi you and I have to have words young man.

I had arranged that all nzmers who made it to the yellow and purple tenty thing had the offer of tickets to the after party.... sorry I couldn't make that public before hand but they were limited and there are too many randoms reading these forums, and I had this thing in me head if people couldn't be bothered to come and say hi they didn't warrant being invited.

Anyhow, after going home for a cupa and a change of out fits we all headed back to the victory rooms, just in time for the rain to start again. Degrees k were not horrible and the new drummer didn't shame them at all...
After that my evening was pretty much of a blur of keeping the teens I am so fond of bonding with not getting too drunk and getting 20 bodies back to my house in a car that can only hold 4 and a driver, there was a wee bit of goat, cabbage fox.... young Phil thought that the drive was so much fun he had to do it three times and each time I forgot the new pothole on the high way until it was just about too late.
Finally got everyone home safe and sound at just after 6.
A bottle of vodka was found and mixed with tropical fruit juice and budget misty lemon... hence the birth of the now infamous Tropical Misties, the recipe, thankfully lost to the misties of time.
I think we finally hit the rather cramped sleeping places about 9......... 20 people in a small house with flood-quality rain was not the best plan, but everyone seemed no worse for wear a few hours later, when at about 11 I got up to start the 1st day of the new year.

I have no official feed back on the Phat 0 as yet, but have spoken to a few people who had been on top of the hill on the 1st night...... very very wet but very very good, I bumped in to some blackseeds at the airport on their way up the hill and it sounded like the grapes in gizzy went well and they asked if I knew where they could get some gumboots......It is interesting to note by Friday evening you could not buy either gumboots or tarps in Nelson for love nor money.

So yeah, to everyone who was at the house, ya all come back now ya hear, to every one who shared our camp site at the cusp, well met...... and to one and all, those I met and didn't meet, next year ok?
Oh and I already have 13 confirmed bookings for next year so unless I win lotto and get that B&B I have been dreaming of, there is only places for about 7 more so don't leave asking till the last mintue.

The Cusp was great, I agree that Paselode stood out, but it was fantastic to finally see Shihad live...gutted that I had to leave not long after the fireworks. To everyone I met at the Cusp- you guys are all awesome, thanks heaps for making it a great night! :)

//jimi's robotic dance style...... and jimi you and I have to have words young man.

ooer. gutted I wasn't there to do it for dK.
Sounds like I'm in trouble.

something this good cant stay a mystery.

four parts vodka.

then three parts tropical juice or somthing.

finish it off with one part basics misty lemon.

best enjoyed by any sort of fire.

that should be a topic unto itself! nato, what was that one we were destroying at smoke?

seriously tho, how mucked up is it when you have to light a fire on New Year's Day?

//Sounds like I'm in trouble.
no not at all in trouble, but tis sad because if you could remember, you would be able to mark nye '05 as the year you did not miss out on a NYE kiss...... and no don't freak it wasn't me.

i had a great new years even if i did lose alot of blood during the day and st johns insulted my pain treshold by only putting a band-aid on my near fatal wound.

i enjoyed playing. and staying with aka was great. we felt well taken care of.

i seem to remember little of the after party but had a sore face from smiling and talking the next day which is a good sign.

thanks to everyone who helped me try to roll the shihad tour van.

//st johns insulted my pain treshold by only putting a band-aid on my near fatal wound.

When I was hit by a car, the people at A&E gave me two panadol. Cheers guys.

// seem to remember little of the after party but had a sore face from smiling and talking the next day which is a good sign.

well f i could remind you, I love 'Be Gone' adnd m eand flatmates had many singalongs to it this year.
beautiful

Fucken' brilliant thanks, Indigo smokefree is lovely, although if you're not a smoker and you go out on the balconey now it seems like people resent you for taking up their precious room.

hey yes it is. it was chaos on the balcony tho, jeeeeez i got beer spilled on my shoes. fuck
aaaaaaaand i went there expecting to see millions of people i know but it was sooooo full of out of town weird people i left early, like 3am and didnt get to sleep around 8am. i had fuuuuuuun tho. it was a a FABULOUS New Years. yay 2005.

I also could have done without all the couples getting dirty with their ugly selves on the dance floor making me want to gouge out my own eyes.

yea that was not nice to see.
eventhough i was there with my boyfriend we kept the public displays of affection to a minimum.
i wanted the djs to play some t-rex but they didnt. they played so much shit.

pretty crap, a little too "just like every other night" for my liking. i'd also thought i'd have the night off from looking after overly drunk & emotional people whilst being drunk myself. but alas.
but i look at it now as like a lid on '04 and how it was that whole year so next time will be kick ass because this year has to be kick ass.

hello

hi

hi

I went to the Cock and Bull in Botany with some friends. It was nice, but it's not a great venue for dancing; there's not enough floor space (it took me close to ten minutes to get from one end of the room to the other). I suppose it was for the best - I wouldn't want to put anyone through watching me dance (or trying to). Still, it was an OK night - and the C&B house beers (particularly Blue Goose) can't be beat!

fantastic. odessa at the last supper club was so where it was at.
hoegaarden, good friends, waiters wearing togas and funk was the perfect way to end and old year and start a new year.

you're right, odessa funcked me rotten. wicked hot! and the $6 cab sav was disgusting but potent.

OMG, you're right about that cab-frickin-sav!!! my friend had one...she was like..."is this the drink I ordered?" we took turns tasting and smelling it...it was gross...i dare not even call it cab sav...stupid house wines...

we forgave them though, cause we managed to walk out without paying our tab (woops)...

mine was da shit. like me.

It was a weird one this year - included the usual pissup, but hard to celebrate with the tsunami deaths, it didn't feel right, ya know?

New Years Eve went off at Resolution in Whitianga! The best of New Zealand dance music, dj's and more. A wicked venue - Ohuka Farm, wicked music and a wicked crowd.

The best New Years I've had in a long time!

I dislocated my knee soon after midnight. Let's just hope the rest of my year goes better than the first few hours of it would suggest.

//..and f'ckn huge props to AKA who kicks ass!!!//

Cusp was awesome, had a great time even though I didn't make it to the after party or the BBQ.

////..and f'ckn huge props to AKA who kicks ass!!!//

//Cusp was awesome,

Can we please have Huge Props to DAZ MG, who is responsible for The Cusp, but is all so responsible for teaching me to open my heart, with out him none of this would have been possible, his vision and generosity is a lesson for us all.... truly truly a person with a great soul and someone I am privileged to call friend, he enriches and uplifts everyone he touches.

For sure, my biggest regret about not going to the after party etc was that I really wanted to shake Darryl's hand & say thanks.

So ...... thanks heaps Daz for making NYE in Nelson fabulous!!!

It was my pleasure.......honestly!!!

To all of you who drove, sailed, flew, walked to The Cusp`05 I send out a big Thank You!! for coming and sharing the whole experience with me. It was honestly a dream come true...
The weather was a beautiful thing...the crowd was exceptional...the music was massive!! It was great to meet so many awesome people from all over the country who share a passion for a good ROCK show!!

Please, if you have any other comments on the gig (positive or constructive) that you would like to share, please email them thru to cusp_event@hotmail.com - your on going support for the event will help it keep growing.
Where to next?? Where do you go after Shihad??...international??

Muchos Gracias...Mahalo...Kia Orana....Kia Ora!!!

Peace

I'll give feedback via the emaileron but for now Daz I'd like to agree that you do a great service to the NZ music scene. Thankyou. And let's not forget the other organisers, and also the NCC for helping out. Thanks to them too. Whoooooooooooo.......

went to Kurow, played Hearts and the boardgame Settlers (what a game! what a game! and un-electronic! wow!) until midnight, and then we all (plus one over-excited collie puppy) went out under the stars and danced MC Hammer style to 'U Can't Touch This'. 'stop, hammer time' made me feel muscles i never knew i had the next morning. it's a great New Year's watershed song.

i got a nosebleed...it was pretty mean...

and 'Dwayne from Seedney' gave us free Heinekens....

Played an insane show at a flat, followed by copius amounts of alcohol, followed by watching the sun rise over wellington. Ooooh yes.

as usual quiet, too quiet - I was in bed by 10.15 and up and at 'em on Jan 1 - didnt touch a single drop of booze and/or herbal medications that night, the best part was waking up with the words "Its just another boring day in the life" - exactly what NYE is.

//up and at 'em on Jan 1

i was meant to say up and at 'em at 7.45am Jan 1. I Do wish we had an edit function on the posts, save us having to correct our typos with multiple posts.
