Funniest Music Videos (FMV's)

Finally, a day off work so I can get some topics off my chest :)

What is the music video that makes you laugh the most/loudest? Mine is 'Sex Crime (1984)' by the Eurythmics. Evrything about this video is funny. Of course, it is ably assisted by the song (and this can be a consideration in your choice - it's pretty tough to have a funny video and boring song) and features:

- Those classic 80's montages of people turning their heads to either look at/away from the camera.
- Mixing desks transformed into luminescent cyber-computers that would look more at home at Cape Canaveral in 2975.
- Annie Lennox with a incredibly severe haircut and ludicrously unstylish leather trenchcoat.
- Dave Stewart needlessly kicking over a barrel full of burning, err, stuff while playing guitar. And it's in slow motion. I can't stress how needless this is.
- A heavily synthesised, 'ominous' voice repeating '1984!' is personified by Stewart, who is middle aged with a beard and bouffant hair. And a funny guitar strap.
- Ms. Lennox attempting to pull off a convincing performance of the line 'Yeah yeah ye ye ye ye yeah yeya ye yeah yeah' as produced by someone pressing play on a 'yeah' sample over and over again (like you do when you're 10).

I'm sure there's more, but you'll have to watch the video to find out. Special mention goes to Van Halen - Hot For Teacher. So what's your FMV and why?

Forums: The Bar,

funky town gets me every time

Maybe not so much the video itself, but the snap shot of the 80’s it gives. . .
White t-shirts tucked into light blue tapered jeans with the compulsory rip at the knees and sneakers of course, The drummer’s ultimate mullet, The guitar solo close up, Keyboard guitar

I do love the song though

Yah, it was on J2 today.
Hotwired Elite Strat for some reason and Bass player slaps a fury, despite the whole line being a cheesey synth...
This is remanisent of "Send me an Angel", however that particular "Bass player" is even more guilty of false advertising as hes holding a Fretless and wearing a Mullet.
hindsights a wonderful thing.
Mr Mister Video c1987 is truly awful "Kirri"?
Tears for Fears Video with Roland impersonating or worse, reinterprating Morris dancing Lakeside, whilst Curt hugs himself in vicelike grip.
Singer from Simple Minds(Jim kerr?), deserves mention for mastourbatory posers and appaling clothing, ill-fitting beret and shirt with belt only slightly south of nipples.
Joe Strummer Ass over kite routine in garageband live Vid
Always watch your Mic cables.
Paul Lekaksis "Boom boom" A new vision of Homo-Eroticness
Dragon "this Time" who suggested shooting Video outside porn shops?
Dragon "Rain" who suggested McDonalds for breakfeast, lunch and tea?
BoneyM, He was certainly looking pleased to see you.
U2 "Gloria" Bono rips down section of Corrugated iron Fence, thats Anarchy kids.
The Dudes "Be mine Tonight". Bass player has very nice early Stingray (still has mutes from this seat) however Leather pant shocker, so shiney you need sunglasses for repeat veiwing.
DDSmash "Magical Tearooms". Again Bass player at fault, Electric Blue FlyingV Steinberger, with plated Mullet and Braces. I never knew Kajagoogoo were such an influence on NZ Musicians.

Bowling for soups "1984" vid is worth a chuckle.

California Girls by David Lee Roth, but not the versions with all the buxom beauties, but the one with some more amply proportioned women in it. Very funny along with the I Ain't Got Nobody one.
Cherry Pie - Warrant - no explanation required.
Hello - Lionel Ritchie. Apparently Lionel complained that the sculpture the blind girl does at the end wasn't life like enough, and the director's retort was "well she is blind...."

Sorry - only one version...

bro you have to give the reasons, so those of us who haven't seen the vid can have a laugh too, heh heh

Cherry Pie - basically Warrant dress up as firemen and hose down a girl in a white t shirt and variations on this theme. And this lasts for four minutes.

Hey... Cherry Pie was no where near as bad as Unskinny Bop....

who said "bad" ???

Gwar - Meat Sandwich -> Gwar dress up in nasty looking costumes and play basketball against Jesus, after which they dismember him, barbecue him and eat him...

We're Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister
Here I Go Again by Whitesnake
Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley
3 2 1 Pump by Redhead Kingpin

//Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley

All class.

And the reasons:
Twisted Sister - skit at the start where the Dad chews out his kid (What's this! A Twisted Sister Pin ON YOUR UNIFORM) Then the kid turns into Dee Snyder, rampages through the house, Dad has a spaz. Brilliant.
Whitesnake - The usual 80s hair metal cheese, but with the added humour of a make out scene on the hood of a sports car with soft porn lighting where you can't tell which one is the guy and which is the girl.
Rick Astley - Rick is an uber-dork
Redhead Kingpin - MC Hammer with a bad dye job, who halfway through the song performs the most ridiculous dance I have ever seen (looks like someone trying to take a dump while skydiving).

//Rick Astley - Rick is an uber-dork

ha ha ha I nearly died from laughter when I saw him on the paystation2 singstar karaoke thingy haha

who's seen Mel & Kim's 'Respectable' video recently?

All class.

. . . also, who knows - what ever happened to them ???? (heehehe)

got so excited by my own question that I started a topic on this . . . so along with Rick I'm also an uber-dork

//what ever happened to them ???? (heehehe)

One of them died of cancer. I bet you feel good about yourself now.

meh ?? *shrugs shoulders*

um, excuse me, but the correct term would be internerd.

and i should know.

Dei Hamo - whatever the video is called.

It cracks me up how pathetic he is.

yes indeed.
i, also, do not like dei hamo.
die hamo.

funny how most of these videos are from the 80s - it was the ultimate era for video bad-ness - people so enamoured with the technology they had that they used it when it was entirely unnecessary (such as to create the aforementioned mixing desk transitions in the Eurythmics video.

Mine are from the 80s too haha:

1. Eddie Murphy - "Party All the Time" - The videos not much - just Eddie Murphy in a studio singing and Rick James egging him on, but it's just so funny watching Mr Murphy sing. Throughout the video Rick gets more and more excited and then halfway through jumps out from behind the mixing desk, comes into the recording room and picks up a SECOND BASS and just randomly starts playing. I stress the point that there is NO SECOND BASS IN THE SONG. Why???!!!

2. Toto- "Africa" - has the 80s head-turn thing, plus a recurring spinning globe that keeps stopping and zooming in on Africa - they do it like TEN TIMES - ALRIGHT WE GET IT!!!! It's AFRICA. And there's a classic shot of a hunter trying to shoot a lion, and this random hand pops out of nowhere and pushes his barrel down - What the hell???!!

3. Lionel Richie - "Dancing on the Ceiling" - he ACTUALLY dances on the ceiling . . .

4. Wham - "Wkae Me Up Before You Go Go" - there are no words . . .

Also, I find the new Mo'Reece video really funny - why, halfway through the video, do all those people appear and they start having a party and dancing and stuff?? It's completely unrelatedto the rest of the video . . . :D

//- people so enamoured with the technology they had that they used it when it was entirely unnecessary

Peking Man - Room that Echoes. Great song; trippy, trippy vid. Terrible 80s jazz dancing.

// Terrible 80s jazz dancing

ooohhh yes. I think the general rule of thumb emerging here is that...

interpretive dance in music videos = crap video.

see also...
rem - losing my religion (something wrong with your hands, michael?)
madonna - papa don't preach (he will if you dance with that top on, mads)
jagger/bowie - dancing in the street (no! don't dance in the street you old gits!)

notable exception to rule, spike jonze directed fatboy slim videos...

christopher walken in weapon of choice
the dance troupe outside the cinema in praise you

...Sinead O'Connor in Emperor's new clothes

The look on Christopher Walken's face when he starts flying towards the end of that vid is priceless. :D

I was thinking when I mentioned 'Sabotage' that Jonze's vids are often really funny.

Dancing wise we've got to mention Peter Garrett, most notably Midnight Oil's 'Power and the Passion'. I don't find that funny though, more unnerving. And sorta exciting. Um, not sexually.

The most frightening thing about the Peking Man clip is that the dancer is very clearly wearing some sort of unitard. There's never any excuse for a unitard. Not even in the 1980s.

that dancer would in fact be Margert herself, and as for the leotard, if i remember rightly, she was a national lvl gymnaist

oh yeah and Eminem 'Without Me' - the osama dance - classic . . .

i have exceeded my qouta now surely. I'll shut up now . . .

I'm sure the videos we love now will generally look shocking and dated given 15-20 years. That definitely goes for the gratuitous use of technology, but also just the faddish nature of vids. One strong contender there I reckon is Kylie's 'Love At First Sight', with all the stupid wire frame graphics and those post-Daft Punk robot guys.

Kate Bush's 'Wuthering Height's is up there in the laugh-at rather than laugh-along stakes, I reckon. It basically just consists of her in a flowing white dress and real vaseline on the lens shininess, backlit in a black room, doing what looks like a pisstake of "interpretive dance". I think there's dry ice down front. It's definitely made better (funnier) by her squeaky vocals and the "I am a teen poet!" vibe of the song.

Definitely second 'Party All The Time', one of my faves. Rick's peroxide poodle cut..!

Intentionally funny.. gotta go with the Beasties' 'Sabotage'. Deliberately utterly budget looking 70s cop show antics.

My fave bit is where one of them's wrestling with some bad guy in the back of the cop car and just throw him out on to the road! Funny not only cos it's so insane but because when the body hits the road it's the most lame, stuffed-pillow looking dummy.

We could almost start a whole thread on funniest haircuts in music videos.

Bad Company's 'When I See You Smile' has some awesome back lit mullets. I reckon back lighting is the key to a great look. :)

Eric Carmen's 'Make Me Lose Control' is pretty much entirely just him singing into one of those old style mics, with the most feminine hair I have ever seen on a man. He reminded me of Shelley Long in 'Cheers'! Hahahaha...

Oh, A View To A Kill - Duran Duran. When it first came out it was funny for all the right reasons. When I saw it recently it was funny for all the wrong reasons. Still a great song tho.

Best bit is how they use cool blowy-up scenes from the movie and tie them into the video...but when Simon le Bon ("the name's Bon - Simon - le Bon") blows up Eiffel Tower, it's this really crappy special effect job where they just superimpose an explosion over top of a shot of the tower.

..also Nick Rhodes' acting.

i like the blind dude, nick's terrible hair, makeup, and acting, and BON... simon le bon.

classic!

//i like the blind dude,
Another excuse for Andy Taylor to wear sunnies.

//nick's terrible hair, makeup, and acting
HEY! Nick had awesome hair!

I just have to vote for Betrayer by Kreator in this one...

Without a doubt, GnR's November Rain. A piece of toasted cheese if ever there was one. The orchestra was a nice touch - despite the fact that in the studio it was all Axl on a synth. Bastards.

Alex Garland on bFM had a chat about this video with a caller some months back. Alex said he noticed something vaguely homoerotic about it - Slash leaves the church (jealous that Axl is no longer all his?) and hops around the back to play a solo! Ah, the crazy world.

Wait, that was Chris Garland. I don't know if the author of The Beach works at bFM ;)

well i don't like to rememeber any of the music from the era in which i was born, quite frankly it scares me. so i'm going with the mint chicks - opium of the people. the balloon man gets me every time. they win the award for the most random sh*t video. blue spit!!! woohoo

final countdown - europe. this video is so METAL i almost can't bear it. the pink lipgloss on the singer is a bit much too.

yeah hair metal at its best, Van Halen 'Jump' in quite good too.
In the Europe video the drummer has like a 10pc drum kit & only using a 1/4 of it!! but most drummers did that back then.

Yeah I recall the guy from Slaughter used to have 4 kick drums, then sit there twirling up a storm, playing your stock standard doom, tish, doom doom tish 4/4 hihat kick snare rock action. Because you could play four motherfucking kick drums anyway couldn't you. Well, maybe someone in the post-Chernobyl scene...

The Europe 'Rock The Night' vid was also pretty special (needs), they caused a bit of rukkus in a restaurant as I recall...? Killer

Doctor O, I think you need to see a Doctor? . . . who in their right minds remembers Slaughter?? and even if you do remember them you don't mention it !! because goddamn it, now I and others remember them . . . them red glow of shame is creeping across our faces . . . I hope you're happy !!!

Shit, now I've got "up all night sleep all day" in my head.

You can justify having listened to Slaughter on the grounds of being a Kiss fan who wants to trace the progress of the various people . The singer from Slaughter was in Vinne Vincent Invasion. Vinne replaced Ace in Kiss and had the Egyptian Ankh make-up before they took it off with the release of Lick It Up.

You can also justify it if you were 13 and thought the chick on the cover was pretty hottt.

And if I recall, most of those 80's Kiss videos were stupid - particularly the ones where Gene had a perm.
