Naquadah, Ishtar, Puppet and Angelsound gig Friday

Naquadah, Ishtar, Puppet and Angelsound are playing this friday, 18th December at the Rock Bar, K road.
First band starts 9pm.

Tickets $7 on door or $5 from Bands.

Forums: NZ Music,

Make that Saturday 18th. Should check calendar before posting, didn't, mistakes happen.

Anyways if you can bear being in a smokefree room for a few hours come on down the gig should really go off.
Once again Saturday 18th December.

I'm interested, can you tell me a bit more about the bands playing....?

Thanks for posting links through to the sites Sandy.

Hey Manamana, the web sites give you some info bout the bands playing but I'll see what I can add.
All four bands have female singers but that is the about the only thing similar about the 4 bands.

Naquadah have organised the gig and its their first gig back on the circuit for a while. I've only seen them once when Ishtar gigged with them last year, but from what I can remember they had quite a gothic feel about their music. They've been out of it for a while due to their drummer and guitarist leaving and have been using the downtime to write a lot of new material so I've no idea what they will sound like. They have a song called 'backlash' on the 'freak the sheep' compilation and Marq Bizarre is a big fan.

Greg, puppet's bassist describes the Puppet sound as a cross between Goldenhorse and Linkin Park. I can see that and would also add a few other bands like tool and 10,000 maniacs to that list. They have their own sound and craft some really nice songs. The one thing I really like about them is that all their songs 'breathe' well if that kinda makes sense, there is just something listenable to their dynamics. They are a five piece with a cellist.

I haven't seen Angel's band live yet but the best thing with them really is to go to their site and download their music. They are by all accounts a very good live band and having worked with Johnny and Angel before I would be disappointed in them if they were involved in any less (Angel has eerily perfect pitch). They did have a song in the launchpad thing earlier this year but I don't think it is still up there.

Hard for me to objectively say anything about Ishtar but comments back from other people include "a cross between Tadpole and Van Halen", "Very Dream Theater-ish", "like Led Zeppelin with a girl singer", "the band with the Yngwie guy" I think we have to be somewhere in the middle of all that but I'm not sure exactly where. Web site isn't much use as no sounds yet, however we should be putting something up very soon.

Hope there's something useful in there + hope to see you along at the gig.

I wouldnt really call Naquadah gothic, I think Dark Melodic Rock is a better description. At the moment they have been adjusting all their songs for use without a guitarist, which i am assuming means the keyboards will be taking a more central role. I havent heard them without the guitarist yet, so I am really looking forward to that as their keyboardist is awesome. As for a drummer, they have Ishtars drummer on temporary loan, and hes a wicked drummer, so all in all im really looking forward to seeing how it all comes together

Yeah I'd agree with dark melodic rock. It'll be good to see Naquadah up and moving again.

Hey WOW what a fantastic night :)
Thanks to all the bands for a great show, and to everyone who came. There definitely needs to be more chick fronted rock bands out there, and it was great to see 4 of them playing all in the one venue doing such a fantastic job on stage! what a memorable night... lets do that again!
