This is the general discussion forum for Crowded House

Forums: Bands,

What else can I say but, sadly missed :o(

yesh i agree... one of the bands i used to beg my mum to play when i was like 5 or something! lol. great memories there. Why are there like no posts here, and no songs? am i missing something...

I LOVE ANY BAND WIHT FINNS IN IT....I met Neils baby and i felt very honoured to get a guitar pick too.

awe... that's cool. I think i've already said this but there's a neil fin book out with all his lyrics.... looks good... is that all it is? i didn't get much time to check it out

Crowded House would have to be the all time greatest band, but you would have to expect this with the kind of inspiration these guys had for their songs, that being New Zealand - the country and the people.
An awesome band from an awesome country.
And this from an Aussie! :-)

i love crowded house. none of this pointless crap we have today. there should be heaps more posts in here

I don't really count these guys as a NZ band anyway.

80% of the time they were a three piece and two of them were ozzies.

Sure, Neil Finn was the primary songwriter here and lots of his lyrics were about NZ stuff, but they lived in Aussie the whole time and marketed themselves as an Australian band.

please let us cling to our successes

Fair enough.

Thats just how I percieve them. But not as an Australian band, nor a NZ band, kind of both.

As far as i knew, i thought Crowded House was an Auzzie band.
But whenever i mention that people say No they were New Zealand.
I know Neil Finn is NZ
But was the rest of the band Auzzie? because if they were i would really count that as an Auzzie band.

Majority Rules :)

who cares! they were a bloody good band

Indeed they were and no one can take that away from them

wooohoo

I love Crowded House. Always have, always will. I remember listening to them when I was about 7 and have loved them ever since. For me personally though, I will always think of them as a kiwi band. Just my perception too- Neil was the heart and soul, and from him came the music and that's what counts. I'm not saying this to ruffle any feathers, that's just my personal opinion. I can't separate them from many a memory I have where they've been my inspiration and soundtrack, so regardless of all of the whole Aussie-Kiwi rivalry, you cannot deny the sheer brilliance of this band. They were, and remain to this day, one of those untouchable points of light in an otherwise dim musical existence (i.e. all that other crud that the labels try to market as 'music'.) I love them to bits. Also, for you Auckland fans...May 31st....Finn bro 'hooley'....don't miss this....you will kick yourself into next year, as I am doing from last year...

i just saw private univeres the music video and it was great im glad my friend sent it to download it looked like they were in their own universe

Whats with the lack of comments on this artist page?

Crowded house, what can you say.
Amazing, like an Australasian Beatles, every song is a composition of beauty, so many layers and that voice, so distinctive and lovely in its ordinariness.
I have just been pulling out my old tapes and stumbled upon my ‘House’ collection and I’m hooked all over again.
Song writing masterpieces:

‘Weather With You’: Just like the Beatles, a good story told: ‘well there’s a small boat made of china, going no where on the mantle piece’ (does anyone know where 57 Mount Pleasant St is?)

‘Fall At Your Feet’: that opening riff guitar-piano, so sombre, ‘ill be there when you call’

‘Four Seasons In One Day’: The most beautiful. Someone once told me that its about Melbourne, although he was an Aussie, but I guess it does sum up Melbournes weather. ‘it doesn’t pay to make predictions, sleeping on an unmade bed, finding out where ever there is comfort there is pain…….blood dries up, like rain’

This band and that one man, stand for some of New Zealand’s (and Australia’s) most stunning and proud analogue moments.

Respect.

Togetyher Alone did it 4 me I think the bass playing in Pineapplehead is sublime.
tunes, lyrics and awesome production.
We need A troll in here to stir up some decent discussion.
Aenema? where r u?

Together Alone album is a true New Zealand classic! For any dissenting Aussies, c'mon - it's got paua shell and fluffy dice on the cover art , it was recorded at Kare Kare beach and the title song features a Maori choir! Kare kare is the track that does it for me - a seriously underated song, atmospheric and evocative. Fingers of Love is great, but I think there are way better live versions of this out there. Private Universe is, as always, sublime. Black and White Boy rocks harder than any other Crowded House song, and Skin Feeling has a funky mid-90s U2 sound. There's not a weak track on the whole album.

R.I.P Crowded House.

I'll never forget you.

i also remember hearing them when i was about 7 or 8, i didnt actually own any of there albums till i was 16ish but i can remember walking down the street and hearing some house and thinking wow thats great stuff, as ive grown older there musics began to mean more to me, just the other day i was walking into the warehouse and i hear something so strong playing it made me bloody proud to be a kiwi

I never really heard of Crowded House untill i was 10ish, when the Natures Best Cds came out. I fell in love with their music. Hearing their tunes playing on the radio, in shops and even the occasional clip on t.v fills me with happiness that their music is still being played and loved by so many other people.
