A LOW HUM November tour

A LOW HUM is stressing out! How can we keep bringing you kick ass shows month after month? It must end soon. Don’t worry, cause we haven’t lost the plot yet, though get in quick before I do.

I only just got back from last months tour, where I’m afraid many people had to be turned away at the door from packed rooms. Well, you’d better get to this months shows early, because these shows will sell out and its going to be a very memorable tour.

I don’t know where to start with this lineup. It is all sooo good. So I’ll just come out and say it. Cortina, The Coolies, Goldenaxe and Disasteradio! All around the country! Every band playing, every show!

Oh boy.
Cortina, The Coolies, Goldenaxe and Disasteradio

Christchurch – Nov 12. Wunderbar (limited presales from Galaxy Records, High Street)
Dunedin – Nov 13th. Arc Café

Auckland – Nov 19th – Edens Bar (limited pre sales from Bunny Boutique from Nov 16th)
Auckland – Nov 20th (second show to be announced)
Palmerston North – Nov 26th – 85 Broadway
Wellington – Nov 27th – Blue Note (limited presales from Slowboat from Nov 16th)

Entry includes a copy of the brand spanking new A LOW HUM #14/CD 7 (10 tracks).
Featuring: The Chandeliers, Alec Bathgate, DSuper, Cat! Cat! Cat!, Ejector, David Kilgour, The Shocking Pinks, Suka and Edmund Cake.

Last months issue sold out, so don’t miss out again this month!

Cortina are the bees knees. Practically impossible to describe, they are hands down one of the most exciting live acts around. If you’ve ever seen them, you know what I’m talking about, expect the unexpected. Joining them all around the country are buddies in new wave punk crime The Coolies. Completely different from Cortina, yet so similar, this is a beautiful match up that I have been trying to make happen for months. These two bands alone are worth the price of eating off ones arm. But wait…

Goldenaxe. Superb. I asked them to play a few North island shows for me back in June, I had never seen them before, but had heard good things. There is a reason I am inviting them on a full tour of the country, because they are incredible! I was gutted that the South Island hadn’t seen them, because I know they are gonna feel lots of love so I had to bring them down. Different at every performance, Goldenaxe are mad.

Rounding out the lineup is Disasteradio. He has already been on an A LOW HUM tour (back in June), but I set the rules, so I’ll do what I want. He is pretty much hands down my favourite performer in the country and sets the room dancing everytime. It would have been wrong to do this tour without him, so Disasteradio in on board. I know you want to see him again.

Big ups to the good people at Jack Daniels for once again making this all possible, and thanks to RDU, R1 and Radioactive for all your love and support.

I can't wait!

Forums: NZ Music,

this tour sounds super cool.
what ejector is on the cd? new or old?

a new song. unreleased, from the stuff they recorded after their final show. its fucken cool too.
thought you might appreciate it ;0

aw thanks
i am glad that im thought of.

and the D-super song?

thats an old song. The Moths, off Straight to The Sun. One of my kinda "past" personal fave selections..where I try to get some great songs out there that maybe some people missed. Also in the "past" selections is a Suka track, the classic "spitwinterspit".mmmmm

basically..just an excuse to get some of my fav nz tracks on some compilations.

To save more of these questions.
Tracklisting:
The Chandeliers - Zombie (off their new album)
Alec Bathgate - Ebb & FLow (off his new album)
DSuper - The Moths (Straight to the Sun)
Cat! Cat! Cat! - Mars (off their album)
Ejector - Future Conclusion (unreleased)
David Kilgour - On the Outside (not on album, unavailiable in NZ, except on low hum)
The Shocking Pinks - Translation (exclusive to low hum)
Suka - Spitwinterspit (off EP)
+ Bonus Track.

so...get this cd, with exclusive tracks, a 52 page magazine and a great show of 4 amazing acts, all for $10. (+ booking fee if purchasing ticket)
hmmm..pretty good deal.

Just to be a pain in the ol' rectum...
Whats the bonus track? or would that be telling.

its simply another Ejector song; "Drift". I write a story in the magazine about my time managing them and the change from a band of four 16 year olds in school to a band of one 18 year old and three guys over 25.

I thought it would illustrate the article nicely to include a song written/recorded when they were 16 by the original line-up as well as a song written/recorded by the final line-up (with members from Letterbox Lambs and Ghostplane)

Also, i think the song is great. and like above with Dsuper and Suka, I looked for an excuse to stick it on the cd.

'Drift' is a damn fine song. wonder if all 'Drift[s]' are predisposed to be good songs - Dimmer's 'Drift' is farking awesome too.

calling all comets for me...
d-super at their best

Drift by Mestar is also a goodie.

And we can't forget Drift by Voivod:

"Last call time to go
To the other side
Dark is the last ride
Decay is my foe
Staring as a crow
Picking at my pride
Ruining my last ride
Down below you're on your own
No escape Here I lie
Their mistake
Took my life
Down fall down below
Last call time to go
To the other side
Dark is the last ride
Drifting down below
Drifting down below"

wow. thats some profound ass shit, huh?

or drift by NeVe .

Don't you want me here?
I'm filling in the space
That keeps us from near
It's what sets us all apart
The artist from the art
And right back at the start
It's the mind against the heart
This continental drift
Continental drift

woah!

Hot dang, you would have thought those mofos would have stolen my 'Random House Rhyming Dictionary' with that calibre of mad rhyming skill....

Hot damn, thanks Ian, I've been wanting to see Golden Axe and Disasteradio for a while now. Thanks for bringing them to the South Island!
See you all next Saturday!

Oi what happened to this DVD thingie you were on about?

typical, no-one cares about folks who can't get C4, people also promised me copies of the handle the jandle dvd too, but nooooooooo.

Hey, why don't you move to Auckland?

move back? just for the telly? cheeper to give in and just get sky digital.........
na enjoy moaning much more

But there's so much more to moan about in Auckland as well..

but then I couldn't point and snigger.............. but seriously what about the dvd edition ?

opps my bad, pointing and sniggering is one of my old Ork habbits I have yet to eliminate

its coming....Working on it now. Bands have until Nov 14th to send me their goods..and I'm getting a pretty good selection. I know you're hanging AKA..

what format do they have to send it in? didn't now about this . . . some of the stuff goldenaxe have been doing in flash is total NOIZE genius.

it can be anything as long as i can get it onto my comp..ie..an av file on a cd-r, dvd or minidv tape or beta tape..whatever. dvd@alowhum.com

Yeah, I hassled the axe boys back at their welly exhibition, brilliant animations, so don't worry, I'll have 8 gigs to hassle them for one, so will make sure they pony up a good viddie.

oh yeah, duh. are you gonna try & fit any "classic" clips on it?
(also duh - my missing k in the above post)

not so much "classic" as "rare". There is no criteria for videos entered other then that they can't have been recently commercial succesful. (funded or non-funded, doesn't matter). Vids that recieved minimum support from TV have first priority on the disc. How long ago they were made is not an issue.

ow yeah - i might have some rare viddies for ya blinko - also .. if you manage to aquire a copy of the latest version of ae .. it can convert flash files into linear video (straight to mpeg2 if you like) . but fucks out at the first sign of interactivity.. ya

cher bro. email me dvd (at) alowhum.com

who wrote the suka, shocking pinks & cat! cat! cat! articles?

ps : k-looking forward to this tour - I'm gonna try & make the hamilton show as well as the auckland one.

cher bro.

Cat! X3 was written by Duncan Greive. Suka written by Mark Williams who went to school with them and Shocking pinks was kinda written by Nick Harte himself with questions from gemma. its an interview...of sorts...kinda...

looking forward to seeing you up the front dancing in htown. you better!

good line-up of writers! no need to bite my nails, &c.

if everything works out, I'll be dancing at the hamilton show, get back to auckland that night, work an eight hour day on friday, then be at the auckland show (dancing). no sleep raver! rush til dawn!

2nd Auckland show announced.
Cortina, The Coolies, Goldenaxe & Disasteradio.
SATURDAY 20th NOV - THE PR BAR (Ponsonby Rd)

thanks to those who came out to the hamilton and auckland shows. They were heaps of fun..photos from the auckland shows on cheeseontoast.co.nz and photos from the hamilton shows on petrajane.com

The Wellington and Palmy shows are this weekend. Please note that the welly show is at The Blue Note!! NOT Indigo bar this month. Tickets on sale at Slowboat now.

PR bar is now my favourite bar in the North Island. (like a little bit of the south island in the north island) It kick ass. seriously. It needs a better PA, ie..no foldbacks or subs, but its a great bar to relax in. A tad on the small side, but for touring bands who are looking to play shows in small venues. I fully recommend it. From 10th Dec, the projector will be working full-time during shows and the screen fills the entire area behind stage. AWESOME venue for multimedia shows..Also after the no-smoking venue law passes, there is hardly a better venue for smoking outside with heaps of cool areas.

The Xmas shows will be annouced in the next couple of days..but I've got some exciting lineups sorted.

//thanks to those who came out to the hamilton and auckland shows.
you suck

haha..sorry aka. I thought i had already posted something about the south island shows...i just scanned above now..I can't believe i didn't say anything, the shows were amazing. Wow. and thanks heaps for looking after us again. Everybody couldn'ty stop talking about your hospitality the rest of the tour.

Thanks also to all the people who lent us gear: chris andrews, matt bates, spanky, the undercurrents, onanon and especially mikey from alpha cast who organised a drumkit, guitar cabinet, distortion pedal and even ran to a music store before closing to get some guitar stings for us!! in dunedin (which he managed to get for free!) You fucken rule!

Good times. I love this lineup.

The A Low Hum gig in Auckland on Friday was so damn amazing that I just had to go the next night as well.

*Love the robot dance moves Blink - I have photos, muwaa aa a aaaaaaaaaa.

Shit, that post was by me.

Luke you forgot to log off on my puter !!!!

wow..if this lineup wasn't the business anyway....we got some special guests playing as well tonight. Gonna be a epic show, get there early so you miss out.

cheers to all the folks in palmy, an amazing venue, and a suprisingly good turnout. I'll definately come back.

maw haw haw!
