NZ bands have a tendency to put amazing songs as b-sides & jam eps full of wonderous little beauties. What's your favourate b-side/ep moment?
Mine: 'lie in the arms (live version)' on the stereo bus' 'be a girl' single.

Don't know if it appears elsewhere, but I love 'Mammouth' by the Skeptics. It's off 'If I Will I Can' or whatever it is - I think it's not 'I Will If I Can', despite the song where Mr D'Ath sings that.
Doesn't 'Breathe' have a nice version of 'Block' on the b-side too?
I've never owned many Kiwi singles.. shame.

mmm it's fairly hard to top a b-side like 'Big Dark Day' by the Chills(Male Monster From The Id); or 'Flame Thrower' (Rolling Moon). Toy Love having the option to relegate a song that would other wise be a classic in most bands back catalogues to a b-side...ie 'Squeeze'(Rebel) is indicative of Chris Knox's genius in a literary sense, but also the bands in a musical one.
And what about a song that a collaborative pop genius went on to write string interpretation of? Brian Wilson's Smile cohort Van Dyke Parkes wrote a string arrangement for the Chills 'Water Wolves', that was originally released as a b-side on 'Part Past Part Fiction', capturing the band arrangement...which some say is superior to the Van Dyke Parkes version.
I think the Mutton Birds re-released what were originally album tracks from earlier studio efforts, as b-sides for the 'Envy Of Angels' singles; most bands would envy 'White Valiant' as a single much less on the flip.

my life is divorced from tapes and vinyl now, but once upon a time there was a band called Straightjacket Fits and they released a single, 'Cat Inna Can' and there was a very good song on it called 'Sycamore'. very very good. but then again, the 'A' single wasn't that great. the other b-side on that, 'Satellite'? doesn't stick out as much as 'Sycamore' either.
and i like the Chills 'Whole Lotta Non' on 'Heavenly Pop Hit'.
there are others ... i'll have a wee think ...
