The Black Seeds revved up a full house at the new Jazz Transplant Old St Johns building on Friday 27th with Trinity Roots, DJs Duke Willis and Koa. Good vibes and subsonic grooves enjoyed by all .
Just listening to the fantastic album I got after last night's King's Arms gig. You guys are welcome back in Auckland any time!!
...
"black sunrise, black sunrise, shadow coming over the sky....."
Saw you on space....nice! Especially like the crazy guitarist with the hat! You da man Mikey! Nice flow and rhythym....i was high at the time and it made me float into a mellow state of mind....-thats a good thing! Keep on rockin in the free world............
Barnaby is Joe 90 *loaded* with the soul of a Cuban black man. Brett should of played the nose organ on Monty Python. Daniel just needs to take his shirt off and wink more often. Shannon is Top Cat on Scooby Snacks and the other dude is just banana split cool. And don't give me an album, I bought two on the night just to get the free tequila! Oh yeah... every track is a fat well layered slinky butt wiggling winner!!! Gets my coconuts swinging!
Da boyz are just so easy to groove to! any time of the day or night. Wicked album, every song is pumping with groovy boogie down vibes.
Keep it up you guys. Very proud sis!
~Gen xo :)
kia ora guys, the blackseeds carve it up big time, whenever you need a lift the blackseeds are your second heart pumping blood around your body, making you proud to be an nzer with the quality of this cd. keep on pushing and black sunrise, vibes that last the day and keep you chilled in the sun. more gigs in the big A would be sweet as. You take the gold boys!
this lp is the bollocks!
as a radio dj on a station that plays a lot of new zealand music imm glad that there are bands like the black seeds out there making great sounds
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAH!
p.s: can i have a copy now?
what a luverly bunch of boys & what a sound, I should know coz we get it for breakfast, lunch & tea at our house. I find myself singing along & I can't stand still.
No gallagher tantrums with this lot, they all have the greatest respect for one another & it shows.
Keep up the cool vibrations lads, take ya shoes off before ya dance on the ceiling!
Love you all, but Shazzy D the mostest coz he's my biggest baby boy.Mammy xo
It was a Good Morning to The Black Seeds this morning, a totally funky Coming Back Home performance, thrilled that I didn't have College today to witness that performance. All the best down the coast and the Uni gig.
What a bizarre voyage I have taken to finally hear the Black Seeds. Way back when (actually only last year...) I had just read the name "Black Seeds" on a poster outside my Backpackers, when, as a young clueless australian tourist in Welly, I met Shaz-the-man in a bar. And today I heard the band! (courtesy of this website). But I want more, MORE I TELL YOU! When, where, australian distributors, shaz?! (and a big pat on the back with a cuppa tea for all your hard work).
i like the black seeds because they are sexy especially daniel and because their music is nice except i'm not allowed to turn the radio up loud when they are on anymore unless everyone in the house is awake
woo...i'm mightily impressed! cute, well-dressed, polite, proficient, and they got rhythm too! Got hooked on 'Keep On Pushing' after only 2 listens and had to check 'em out live. Snaffled up the LP while i was at it. Fan-bloody-tastic! and my flatmates haven't screamed at me to stop playing it over n over, so all is goooood.
Loved seeing the Black Seeds live in Welli. Got the beat and groove and to make you boogie like a monkey, and occasionally sing to.. e.g my fav song " Black Sunrise". Plus with so many members and guests on stage they are not boring, no no. Ace and then some.
I like the Black Seeds cos I live in New York, and their name reminds me of the little black seeds inside kiwifruit. Reminds me of home.
Also, I'd love to retrain NY ears to the NZ vibe by playing their CD to folks here....
i missed the album release party boo! every black seeds gig i've been too has been awesome fun, you guys rocked at marmalade jam '99! Now i'm thrashing the album i've borrowed to pieces, sending the 'seed love to people who are dub-deprived overseas. don't let aussies claim you, they've got Savage Ghard-on.
once upon a time there was a homesick kiwi who was deprived of all his fav aotearoa flavours all the while having a blast in the land of canada however one day this fine young man stumbled across nzm.comm,y commy com where he could listen to all the sickest music especially songs like hey son by the black seeds, don't fret i'll be back for summer kiwi land and lets hope these guys play in a town near you (and me please)
WOW- Black Seeds played in Dunedin last night, it was absolutely freezing but who cares when your dancing till 3am! Had heard Dance, Dance and KoP on the radio and liked them, but live they were just awesome, I hope these guys get some recognition overseas and all, cheers Boyz and come back soon!
FYI: Black seed, Black cumin, Nigella sativa, Kalonji, Schwarzcummel, sinouj, Nutmeg flower, Black caraway, Habba sowda, fennel flower...
Black seed (Nigella sativa) is considered to be one of the greatest healing herbs of all times. This herb has been used for millenniums to strengthen the immune system, cleanse the body, purify the blood, protect against irritants and support healthy longevity. Long forgotten this herb is now enjoying a positive and welcomed come-back.

@Leigh SawMill last night.
I'm certainly no authority on this kind of music but these guys stunning.
Dynamic, complex parts with stinky grooves and great clear sound from a dub-master soundman. The opening instrumental was nothing short of mezmerizing and when the keyboardist got behind the drumkit it was some of the dirtiest funk I have ever heard.
This is dance music.
