Forums: Bands,

Dave Dobbyn's latest single release Just Add Water from his new album Hopetown is a return to past days for Dave. The whole album has a real fun sound to it and it sounds like Dave had a good time recording it. Check out the different instruments used throughout the album. This album is sure to spawn more classics that you will sing along to without even realising. Good on ya Dave.

This is one of the best songs ever......I love this song

Dave if you ever read this, this song is awesome. I have everyone of your albums and apart from the classics (slice of heaven, loyal, whaling etc) this song is totally up there. It has so much meaning to me...Your a legend

Hmmm, what a pathetic thread.
It's weird how peoples musical tastes change. back in 1999/2000, i booed DD & cheered for Zed @ the millenium Hagley park concert. Zed! hahaha, not 'cos I liked them but 'cos they seemed better than some old man dude. But, after listening Natures Best CD I prefer this guy :)
Pity about some of the poppy beats in the songs tho. Oh well.

Man, whats up with this place????

Anyway I've just got my hands on an old Hip/Hop track that Dave sung on. "Beside You" by AKA Brown feat. Dave Dobbyn... Its a damn good worthy remake of his song and he sounds awesome being funked up.

Check it out.....
His voice gets better with age like red wine.

Thats all I wanted to share with his fans, and looking at this place, seems like theres none.

yeah i've got that track too, it's really wicked!

:) :) :)

THIS GOES HARD!! ROCK ON

THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE BEST DOBBYN SONG EVER!!!

Anyone heard the rumor about Dave recording some new material?

// Anyone heard the rumor about Dave recording some new material?

Apparently he's been recording in Wellerton and doing his bit for world beans or peas. Oh wait, world poverty, not world peas.

"While in Wellington Dobbyn said he had been recording in a converted church and working with a variety of local artists including members of the now defunct Trinity Roots, Fat Freddy's Drop and former Mutton Birds guitarist David Long."

I've also heard that sony are rebuilding his official website as wel.... FWIW

so he's recording with nik macgowan then? i guess dave'd be hard pressed to find anyone else who has the 32 simultaneous inputs needed to record his accoustic guitar

New album 'Available Light' released last week. I haven't really generated a full opinion yet, but anyone put off by 'Welcome Home', esp. the video clip, shouldn't have too much to worry about. Seems his time in wellytown served him well. To me it's at times more remniscent of Twist or The Islander, which I think is a welcome return to form. FWIW, it's been getting some good reviews: 5 stars in the herald, plus the following (from the dom post?). One song, to my taste, is a little too overtly religious lyrically - enough to grate a little. More personal than preachy, however. The photography in the packaging is very cool, and Dave's own work.

Cheers for the article link, lg. I'm curious to hear the new album. The Islander was a big experience for me--even now, listening to "Waiting" (despite all the radio play it got) still takes me back to where I was the first time I heard it (sitting at my room window in a freezing Bryndwr flat, winter '98). But I was less transported by Hopetown--largely I think because its Christian themes point in a different direction from me. Sounds like this new one might be a little from column A, a little from column B?
