Hi Lads
Ain't it about time for a new album,
supersystem was fantastic,but being back
in the U.K. now for a year,i've been
waiting for news of a new album plus
maybe a tour of the U.K.cause live you
lads could blow some of these so called british rock bands to pieces.
The video to "the leaving" is just the
right fix i need to get through the days
of having to listen and watch the crap
thats dished out on british radio & t.v.
How i wish i could tune into "THE ROCK"

IT WAS F***EN AWESOME ONCE, TWICE EVEN THREE TIMES!!!!

yeah it is about time for a new album, theyve got enough new material for about 5 great albums but apparently they cant find a producer. they need sum new videos as well i rekon.

World away/As good as it gets was a great single. But I' still holding out for the next full album.

Hello everyone!!

I'm from Holland. Last year we had an exchangestudent from New Zealand at our home. He had brought Supersystem with him. No I have it too. AND I LOVE IT. Why aren't you going overseas????? You are more than great. You can really conquer the world with your music!!!!!!!!

though they are half the world away their music still breathes right into me. time has come to explode and to take the world until it FEELS.

my god.

They RoCk, hanging for some new material!

love the new song astronaut. very cool and I can't wait to see what good shit wll be on the new album..

hey...i would love some real player vids up here so i can hear these guys....that would be ace...being in aus it is SO hard to hear NZ music....this site is like an absolute saviour for me!
Well i'd love to hear this band...because so far all i've heard their great, their crap, and they wear funny trousers. Shihad don't like em. What's the go? peaches xox

Channel Z are giving away "Communicate" this week as the CD download...go for it guys!

YAY!! Excuse me from the table, I just too damn excited to eat. YIPPEE!!!

The Edge is giving away "Communicate" this weekend. Just went looking for the website, its www.thefeelers.co.nz

Communicate went to number one today :) Yay!!!!

hey soldier could you please expand on why you have an almost pathological dislike for the feelers?

They were the Zed of their day, mate - a boy band, albeit much older. Their music was crap too - post grunge, post grunge and nothing but post grunge (YAWN). Nothing special. I fell that a lot of people jumped on the feelers bandwagon just because they came from New Zealand and got airtime - their music compared to that of overseas bands was fairly pedestrian. I'm not bashing fans, here, I'm just stating my opinion.

Jimi, didn't we nut out the whole 'what is a boy band?' thing in the Zed forum a couple of months back? Soldierboy, you might want to check out the argument(s) there...

http://www.nzmusic.com/topic.cfm?i=1060 ]

As much as I hate defending Cantabs I feel compelled to comment Soldierboy.

In what way are the feelers, let alone, zed even remotely the same as Backstreet, n'sync, etc?

Boy bands dance. The Feelers don't dance. They generally stand in the same place playing their instruments. More like Oasis there.

As for the music, instead of inane sing along ballads that would make Barry Manilow puke and annoyingly catchy tunes about trying to get chicks back, the feelers play basically guitar pop, which was around long before grunge. Boy bands can't play guitar let alone play and sing at the same time.

The Feelers all went to Shirley Boys High School. As far as I know noone from Shirley Boys has made it through the popstars-like auditioning process involved in making a boy band.

But hell, maybe I'm wrong and the Feelers are a boy band. In that case, you'd have to dismiss lots of other acts for being the "boy bands of their time": The Beatles, The Stones, Th' Dudes, Dragon, Supergroove and Steriogram to name a few. All these bands have popular songs and the chicks dug them or still dig them.

in my opinion the Feelers peaked with their first single (I'm pretty sure that was their first) "Pressure Man", from then one they lost their edge. Their songs starting wearing helmets, knee pads and wrist guards, some catchy songs sure but err they could have gone one better I think.

just a clarification....
not all the feelers went to shirley boys high school...
matt was from new plymouth and went down to chch to go to university. he went to new plymouth boys high school.
he never went to high school in christchurch.

apart from that, i agree with Joe.

on a similar note...has anyone heard the first feelers single, "the leaving" from 1994....from when they won the battle of the bands
cause it's rocking....now that could be called grunge!
much much heavier than their other stuff.....rather amusing actually...

.sac.

every one knows that they didnt go to shirley boys high
obviosly you all dont know jack about the feelers

Look, I didn't say I hate them cause they're a "boy band". I just thought I'd use this term to describe them, seeing that a large proportion of their their fanbase comprises (or used to comprise) 13-15 year old girls. What dislike about them is that they perform tedious music that really doesn't cut the mustard when compared to that of bands from the UK or America (or even some of our own heros, like The Clean), and the reason why they were successful was due to media hype (a la Zed) and all that "home grown" nonsense, and not becasue their music was absolutely exceptional.

Oh, and those bands you mentioned, Joe, may have been dug by chicks, but they were brilliant. If the feelers (or Zed for that matter) had been just as great as those classic artists, I wouldn't give a toss if glitter-wearing, crop-topped girlies listened to them, but alas, the feelers are shit. Pure and simple.

hey mamasboy i mean solider boy, the feelers are the shit and if you dis them again i will personally kick your ass.
and u have petty reasons why u dont like them
.......fool........

Well, didn't Mr. Grumpy-Pants wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Just stating my fucking opinion, mate. Everybody's entitled to one.

You must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed to not like the feelers and im just stating my fucking opinion as well mate.

Oh, yes I must have. Unlike you I'm not between the ages of 1 and 12 and female.

hahahaha nothing like a good ol' slap around aye....
to add my voice to this, i actually like some of the feelers songs. i see what you're saying soldier, but what fucks me off about zed is that there is no emotion. the closest i come to liking one of their songs is 'come on down' because at least it's pseudo-serious. i dont mind bands being happy but not lets-ram-our-cheesy-shit-down-your-throats happy.

meanwhile the feelers, actually sound like they are human. i reckon supersystem is actually an almost new zealand anthem. people may have 'jumped on the bandwagon' but i dont see (forgive me) how you can be so violently sick over the feelers when there is so much worse out there...... anyone remember deep obsession?? :p

cya

Aye, mate. Point taken.

Well said jimi and congatulations on the T-shirt.

I just got communicate and I absolutely love it. Its the best album I've bought in ages. As for the arguement that the feelers sound isnt "kiwi" enough I think thats rubbish. What would you have them do? Put the sound of keas squaking in the background? I recall the Oceania album of a few years ago with its bottled and labelled kiwi culture for the overseas market. I'd much rather listen to good kiwi rock than that sort of crap.

i'm wondering if anyone has a copy of the entire discography that used to be up on the old feelers official website....the discog that had all their demo tapes on it...
i've got some of those demo's, and want to know the names of some of the songs whose names i can't remember.....

cheers,
sac

oK....as a band, i can't really speak about the feelers, given i haven't heard their stuff...

but in general YES zed may not be the typical "boy band" but yes they are a corporate band, making them no better than the typical boy band. It doesn't matter wether they play their own instruments or not. They are perfectly styled for a triple j sort of audience.
Their music is also soooooooooooo same old same old... also i don't care how happy the lyrics are... personally i wouldn't describe zed as having the same happiness as s club 7 or something... because they haven't been styled in that way.... but yes they still have this "personal" thing going... that young girls seem to like... and oh it is so boring.

I walked into a record store the other day., and saw a pair of "zed" jeans and a "zed" denim jacket... who ha ha ha... does that say it all or what...

i didn't mean just zed either... like all the corporates... ... the most successfull at the moment being limp bizkit... oh, their so tough. god. give me a break. like a new version of guns and roses, for the late 90s.

ah to joe... the band's you listed as being in the same catergory that the feelers could be in if they are boy bands. ok if the feelers are the middle-of the road crap people claim they are, **im not saying they are or arn't here** bands fitting into the same catergory would be creed and lifehouse and trains and etc... that sort of thing. The beatles and the other bands you named, were very revolutionary, they made a real difference to things, and their music was always excellent.

Alright all this shit about the feelers not being able to cut it internationally is just retarded. I live in Toronto and i picked up my copy of supersystem at the local music superstore. I've got a lotta friends who've gotten into the album and dug it very much. It was actually a fresh breath of air, compared to all the shit that was coming out of the states at that time it was released here. There were a few good bands.. but mostly it was shit. Supersystems influences are very apparent in their music, yeah, (Call it "post-grunge" or whatever) however the album sounds very tight. It's produced slickly and the songs are well written. It may be a crowd pleaser in some sense.. but it's intelligent. And i think "Communicate" will be an international break out album for the boys. The song-writings matured very much as far as i can tell. North American mainstream music is at a very low right now... there's a few bands here in toronto that rock.. and some uk bands.. and then some other international ones.. but the ones coming outta the states are just a rehash of the same old stuff. There's a few exceptions of course.. but my point is how do you get the idea that the feelers music is too kiwi or not kiwi enough? It's ridiculous.. i didn't get into the band cuz i like new zealand music.. in fact i don't know shit about nz music. and i didn't get into the band because they sound "like one of our bands!" or whatever. I got into them cuz james reid is an incredibly sincere writer, the band knows how to write melodies, and the synths and samples give it something more than most bands without being over the top "lookatuswe'recuttingedgeelectronicmusicpioneers" chic. This is a good band that continues to write music that appeals to them and therefor appeal to a great many fans. They don't seem to give a shit how mainstream they are or aren't, as long as they are writing songs the way they'd like to hear em. So why should we?

Anyways. my 2 cents.

Ayz

ah, a man (or woman) after my own heart......

sometimes it's really awesome to get an international perspective on things, ppl from overseas are usually totally free of the hidden agendas that most new zealanders carry. (im not slighting you at all soldier)

cheers ayz.

hmm, I think people (myself included) are "complaining" as we care very much about our music to a point where snobbery has become common place. I'm not just saying people that like avant garde stuff are snobbing mainstream but it is also happening vice versa, then there are people in the middle. I'm also not saying that snobbery is good or bad, it is just there.

nice 2 cents worth. on a side note: who are the toronto bands that rock??? always up for some local knowledge...

Check out the matthew good band who have a new album coming out this tuesday.. it's amazing. Not really from toronto, but canadian anyways. And um.. our lady peace's newest album is solid.. they're from toronto.

Miller stain limit, David Usher, Moist, Finger eleven, Big wreck

They're all good.

Matthew good band, Our lady peace, and Finger eleven have the strongest albums out of those in my opinion.

Ayz

Our Lady Peace??
*Waves hand in the air* Ive heard of them!! Actually, Ive only heard the song 'Clumsy', one of those beautiful songs that have a real edge to them. I thought they were british, Ive never heard anything abut them apart from their name! But that song is awesome.
What else have they done? Anyone else in NZ heard any of their other songs?
Ayz, care to enlighten me as to the ways of the Lady??
lol...I sound so retarded...

LOVE Our Lady Peace!!! For goodness sake go and get their albums.. they have been available in New Zealand this whole time!! First heard of them with the single before Clumsy which was Superman's Dead.. Both of those are on the album also entitled Clumsy which I highly recommend!!!!!!! And Ayz is a huge Our Lady Peace fan so I'm sure you will get a response out of him :o)

I've heard Clumsy too... It's SUCH a good song, whats another good one by them??

"And maybe you should sleep
and maybe you just need a friend
as clumsy as you've been
there's no-one laughing
You'll be safe in here"

Too many to mention!!! Go to www.ourladypeace.com it is a damn funky website.. and there are clips from the tracks on all of their four albums for your listening pleasure.

Sorry guys... i forgot about this post! :(

OLP is actually working on a new album right now. Should be out in a couple of months. The last album was brilliant. One of the Rolling stones reviewers actually picked it as top ten of the year and was surprised that it didn't do better, since it's a smart rock album.

Mymindsedate.. go check out www.ourladypeace.cc It's a fan site. Lots of info there. And try and listen to spiritual machines or Happiness is not a fish you can catch.. both albums were amazing. The guys have the best sense of melody in any band out there right now.

As far as other songs... try the big singles... "Life" "Thief" "Is anybody home"... but if you want to hear just good songs... listen to "stealign babies", "Annie", or..."In repair"(which was also a single)....

I've got all the albums.. so if you guys want to sample some mp3's.. just e-mail me. Dimeworth@hotmail.com .. or add me to messenger.

Take it easy :)

New video goes off! I taped it this morning for safe keeping...

What the hell happens in the new video anyways? The song rules and all but a better video would have been good.

I think the Astronaut video is fabulous. What do you mean what happens?? Alien PUNK feelers come down in the middle of a gig and the crowd pays more attention to them than the actual band... then punk James squashes a whole lot of people and the band laugh.. pretty simple really.

The crowd run away from "punk James" don't they? Then he does a face plant (not shown though so I guess it up to the imagination). I quite like the new song and I heard Pressure Man this morning for the first time in ages, it's a very good track too.

the songs kinda catchy,

but the video is a perfect of example of throwing heaps of money at a clip and still getting crap ... the concept is so lame, and even worse it doesnt pull off.. very dull... very safe. very nothing.

watched the making of vid last nite, which was interesting .. a bit pretentious but well made. there should be more behind the scenes on nz music vids broadcast - i know they're out there. .. bring them on..

yeah I saw the Feelers behind the scenes thing last night too... was kinda interesting.

I'd seen bits 'n' peices of the vid before and from what I saw thought it looked like a good effort.... but after seeing the behind the scenes, with the level of production and $ invested I thought the final vid was a real let-down, the concept for a start was really stupid and never really came through properly, the whole thing is like a cup of watery luke warm milk before bedtime.... kinda boring

..yeah I'm with samflux on this one
