National Film Archive...

what an amazing place
much of the recorded history of new zealand film and TV
went there the other day
3 hours go so fast...
there is every shihad video there
all sorts of TV programs, skitz, fred dagg etc.
what do the alexander turnball library have to do with audio and video?
i know they have a big finger in the document archival pie...

Forums: NZ Music,

didn't they used to have a "gallery" on jervois (sp?) quay?
I went to their music video exhibition a few years back. but it closed down, well the sign said they were moving for about a year, and last time i went past there was a furniture shop there.
Its a pity more people don't have or take the opportunity to see nz's moving image culture.

Im curious, what exactly happens at the new film archive??? What can you do there??? What can you watch??? Does it cost much $$$???

how much?
NOTHING
its free
there is pretty much every music video (kiwi of course)
for your purusal
you just go dfown during its opening hours (don't know em sorry)
and take one of the videos (or nine in my case)
hunker down and watch some old footage

what the hell was star trackers?
i saw a few episodes of it
humpdey from playschool being the host and all...

That's great! I walk past it all the time and wondered how it works... sounds like a good weekend project! Although I see the film archive is only open on weekdays 8:30-5 :(
But the Mediaplex is open daily. Mediaplex?

It Certanly Looks Cool....

Decidedly Clockwork Orange...

However also very Mac at the same time...

and the films!
ohhhh the films!

Another cool place to check out is the Alexander Turnbull Library ... check out the sound recording section. They hold copies of a huge range of recorded music of all types. They try to get a copy of every new recording. You can search their catalogues pretty easily.

And for those in Dunedin, there is quite a surprising range of stuff at the Hocken library.

// And for those in Dunedin

plus if you're a student: (you'll already know about) that shiny new Central Library has the hell a/v section

worth a look, might head out there tonight if its open. It be amazing to see what we as a nation have produced on film over the last 110 years.
