The Labcoats are a Wellington sextet mixing jazz with contemporary electronics in a setting that has nothing to do with smoothness or acid jazz. Four of the musicians involved have been performing together for decades, having all been in Six Volts, and are joined here by Fat Freddy's Drop member Toby Laing and then TrinityRoots member Rikki Gooch. After performing together on several occasions earlier this century, including a support slot for US post-rock band Tortoise, the band laid down a set that would be tweaked and re-worked by Dave Long and Steve Roche for over a year before being released as the CD Acid & Alkaline.
