Sora Shima

Sora Shima are a Hamilton 3-piece who play mammoth instrumentals.

History

Sora Shima was formed in early 2006 by Jason Lurman (guitar) and Gavin McDermott (drums), who quickly enlisted Rob Shirlow (bass) and Adam Fulton (guitar) to complete the lineup under the original moniker of Amelia Blackout - derived from a spam email containing random words. In Janurary 2007 the band settled on Sora Shima - ("Sky Island" in Japanese) and set about releasing 2 EPs.

The first, entitled Distancing, consisted entirely of guitars recorded through a cheap MP3 player and manipulated with various software to create immersive ambient soundscapes and melodic drones.

The band then followed through in August 2007 with Spinetingler, a more accurate representation of their mammoth live sound.

Sora Shima then embarked on several outtings, undertaking successful opening duties for the Mint Chicks, Battle Circus, Jakob, Broken Social Scene (Canada) - culminating in an appearance at the Camp A Low Hum 2008 music festival alongside Trans Am, Die! Die! Die!, Liam Finn and many others.

Currently operating as a 3 piece - plans are underway for a debut album ( Destroy Electronica), music videos and tours. Bring your earplugs.
