Decortica comes from the word decorticate, which is to remove a superficial level to reveal a subtler, more intrinsic one.

Decortica is an alternative rock band from Auckland, New Zealand. The 2006 debut EP The Contrast at the Seam demonstrated the fundamental hallmarks of band’s sound: dynamic melodies, kinetic drums and driving bass. Since its release Decortica has gigged solidly around the country and the band has developed a reputation for compelling live performances.

2007 was an exciting time that saw the release of the single “Cassandra” (the video for which came second equal in Juice TV’s Coke Generator Competition). The track marked the band’s evolving craft and cohesion. Following a slew of gigs throughout the year, highlighted by a support slot for New Zealand indie music favourites Die! Die! Die!, Decortica began laying the foundations for a future album release. The new material that is emerging has an even deeper sense of connectedness to the band’s spirit.
