The Stereo Bus were a Christchuch based indie rock band fronted by Dave Yetton, which operated in the mid-90s.

History

After the JPS Experience broke up singer and guitarist David Yetton started a new band called The Stereo Bus. In 1997 they released their first album, just called The Stereo Bus, through Wellington label Beats Bodega. The line-up at this stage consisted of Alan Gregg and Ross Burge of The Mutton Birds, drumming duties shared by another JPS alumnus, Gary Sullivan (who had also been in Solid Gold Hell by then), and David Pine (ex-Sneaky Feelings). Janet Holborow played some cello and (ex-The Instigators, pre-Orange, pre-Fang) Sonya Waters did backing vocals on the album. The album won the award for Best Album at the 1998 b.Net Awards.

After a year's break Yetton reformed The Stereo Bus with a completely different line-up. The 1999 version had 3 guitarists - Daves Yetton and Hunt and Jason Fa'afoi (now in Good Laika) - with Mark Beaton on bass and Bobby Kennedy (now in Op Shop) on drums. The second album, Brand New, was released on EMI NZ. The album's second single, Birthday, got Yetton nominated for a Silver Scroll for writing the year's best song.

In the course of time the band faded away and EMI packaged the two The Stereo Bus albums as Double Decker Box in 2001. Yetton went on to release a solo album in 2005.
