Salmonella Dub

Salmonella Dub is a roots, dub band, originating in Christchurch.

History

Salmonella Dub started out as a primarily instrumental dub band with a sound that was often compared to British label / collective On-U Sound. They released 3 albums with vocals provided by Andrew Penman, before their live sound engineer Tiki Taane became their front man. Around this time the band moved into a largely song-based format, using roots reggae, dancehall and drum'n'bass rhythms as a backdrop for fairly straight-ahead pop songs.

The first single from Killervision 'For The Love Of It' spent 6 weeks in the top twenty, the LP peaked at number 7 in the National Charts and the LP tour sold out in Dunedin, Nelson, Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland.

At the 2000 b-Net New Zealand Music Awards they swept the pool to win 8 Awards including: Best Album for 'Killervision', Best Song with "For The Love Of It", Best Award for Best Hip-hop/Reggae/Dub Act, Best Live Act, Award For Best Bassist, Best Live Engineer, and Best Promotion of a NZ tour.

On January 2007 Tiki quit the group. The first album post-Tiki's departure was released in July 2007.
