Rosy Parlane is an adventurous electronic composer who has performed widely outside New Zealand having played in many local bands. He co-runs the label Sigma Editions.

History

Paul Douglas, more commonly known under the name Rosy Parlane, has been playing in experimental and improvisational bands for many years, originally as a drummer but in this millenium focusing on keyboards, guitars and computer music.

In the early 90s Rosy played drums in Wellington trio Pit Viper with Robert Lundon and Paul Ling. After moving to Auckland he joined Dean Roberts and Dion Workman to form Thela and played drums and piano with them. During this period material from Pit Viper and Thela was released by Auckland's Crawlspace Records and Rosy also worked with sound engineer Marcel Bear (La Gloria) with his Empirical project.

After Thela split Rosy continued making music with Dion as Parmentier, as well as working on his own material. Both Rosy and Dion relocated to Melbourne in 1997 and started a label called Sigma Editions, which released their own work as well as that of other ex-pats like Torben Tilly and the debut album of Finnish critical darling Vladislav Delay.

After self-releasing the CDs #1-4 and Getxo via Sigma Editions Rosy's work was picked up by British project Touch and a variety of smaller labels.

Moving further abroad to London gave Rosy the opportunity to perform with some of the biggest names in Europe's improvisational music scene, from free improv founding father Eddie Prévost to contemporary electronic composers such as Christian Fennesz and Pita / Peter Rehberg (as Rosenberg). A number of these collaborations were recorded and subsequently released.

Rosy Parlane now lives back in Auckland.
