How to Publish in the NZ Music Wiki

This is a quick guide to help you to use the New Zealand Music Wiki.

All members of NZMusic.com can contribute to the New Zealand Music Wiki. It is very easy to do and and even the smallest little bit of information is really useful. In fact, trivia and tidbits can sometimes make the most interesting entries!

Making Changes or Adding To Existing Wiki Pages

The easiest way to get used to the wiki is to start by adding information to existing wiki pages. That way you can see how the content is put together.

If you are logged in and looking at an existing wiki page, you should see wiki tabs at the top by the heading. These are VIEW, EDIT and REVISIONS. If you are an NZM member and you can't see the wiki tabs then please make sure you are logged in.

Click EDIT to make a change or add information to this page. Make your changes to the text in the Body field.

It's helpful if you add a little bit of information describing the change or addition in the Log Message field.

Click submit to save your changes. It can take 30 secs or so to save your changes, only hit the submit key once.

If you need help with the wiki formatting, our cheat sheet will show you the basics (EG how to make links, bold text etc).

Adding New Pages to the Wiki

To add a new page to the media wiki:

1.Make sure you are logged in.

2.Check the page does not already exist by typing in nzmusic.com/music/band_name or / album_name or /song_name or /venue_name or /label_name into your browser address bar.

Make sure you spell everything correctly and put an underscore "_" between words.

Bands beginning with THE (eg The Fanatics) will be listed as /the_fanatics

Proper names (EG Neil Finn) will be listed /firstname_lastname (EG /neil_finn)

If there is no entry you will be shown a page that will ask you to add the information.

3. Select the correct page type for the content you wish to add.

  • If you are adding a band or a musician select Artist Profile Page
  • If you are adding an album, ep, dvd etc select Releases
  • If you are adding a song select Songs
  • If you are adding a venue select Music Venue
  • If you are adding a label, town, year, competition or anthing not covered by the options above select Music Wiki Page

4. Follow the instructions for each field in the tool. All required fields are marked by an orange star. Remember it can take up to 30 secs or more to create your new page. Only hit the submit key once otherwise you may create multiple entries.

5. For the page text and layout use these quick templates.

Select the template for the type of entry you are making from the list below. Copy the template as you see it on the page and paste this into the body field. Use this as a guide to write your content over top. Delete any sections you don't need or write "Incomplete" if you are missing the information.
