Dion Workman is an electro-acoustic composer from Auckland, with a background in improvisational rock bands. He lives in New York and co-runs the label Sigma Editions with Rosy Parlane.

History

In the early 90s Dion Workman played guitar and bass in Auckland trio Thela, along with Dean Roberts and Rosy Parlane.

After the break-up of Thela Dion continued to work with Rosy Parlane as Parmentier, and they also started a record label, Sigma Editions, which releases their own work as well as that of other electronic composers.

Dion left New Zealand in 1997, initially moving to Australia, then the Netherlands, and then the USA. He has lived in New York since 2000. He is a member of a collective of artists called New No York and continues to collaborate with other musicians, such as Julien Ottavi (France), Mattin (Basque), and Michael Haleta (USA). In 2003 he won the Max Brand prize for innovative developments in electronic music for his piece Ching. The prize is given by the heirs of New York based Austrian composer Max Brand in association with the Austrian Cultural Forum.
