Cut Off Your Hands

CUT OFF YOUR HANDS! is a band with four members originating from Auckland, New Zealand.

History

Their original name was Shaky Hands but this was changed to avoid legal action from another band with the same name from Portland, Oregon.

The band released an ep in New Zealand and Australia named 'Cut Off Your Hands' in July 2006 through Speak n Spell Records. However due to the aforementioned threat of legal action, they changed their name to Cut Off Your Hands and released the ep with the title Shaky Hands.

Cut Off Your Hands spent the majority of 2007 in the northern hemisphere playing shows through the USA and the UK, including gigs in Los Angeles, the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, New York and London. Steve Lamacq of Englands BBC 6 Music was so impressed with the band at SXSW that he personally invited them to record a BBC live session while they were in the UK.

The band recorded a new EP in April 2007, released in Australia and New Zealand in July 2007 on Speak N Spell Records. Called Blue On Blue, the recording comprising of four tracks was produced in London by Bernard Butler of Suede fame. Butler has at one time played and worked with The Libertines, Manic Street Preachers and The Verve among others.

In June 2007, a new record label set up by the Levi's Jeans company Levity Records made Cut Off Your Hands their first signing.
