ConcordDawn are a Drum And Bass duo from Auckland.
History
For those who had been in tune with New Zealand student radio, drum n bass act Concord Dawn will be a name that could not escape notice. With more placements in student radios number 1 chart slot than any act in living memory, Concord Dawn Evan Short and Matt Harvey appear to be placed as the wünderkinds of NZ electronic music and set to break many of the barriers between electronic and non electronic music.
Concord Dawn is unashamedly hard, fast, and grooving, yet hits just as well on the dance floor as any listening environment you would care to name. Referencing the sounds coming out of London yet with a New Zealand flavour that has already resulted in receiving playlist confirmations from the likes of France's Radio Libertaire, Germany's HR-XXL and USA's WRAS as well as much respect from touring international drum n bass DJs.
Concord Dawn have played at all of the major dance parties and festivals in New Zealand over the past nine months, garnering a reputation as THE act to close a party with a bang.
They have toured New Zealand extensively, playing over 40 gigs in the last 6 months, honing their live set to a razor sharp edge. Their sound is a blend of the harder, techier sound of drum and bass, but retains a musicality that sets it apart from the pack.
One thing that should immediately strike you about Concord Dawn's tracks is the intricacy and groove of the rhythms and fluid structuring, a result of their heritage and continued involvement as live musicians. Infusing it with far more feel and life than any computer alone can give that shows as well on the dance floor pretty much any environment you could care to play it in.
Anyone who goes along to a drum n bass party in New Zealand can easily see why the drum n bass scene here is rated as easily one of the best in the world, and the regular influx and return of big name DJs also attests to this. It is in this environment that Concord Dawn have developed over the last two years, with their second album set to eclipse the achievements of the first.
