any good gigs on this weekend? i haven't been out in ages!
I've recently been enjoying the Backstage Pass section at The Smoking Gun, where they publish sneaked copies of artists' rider and other tour contracts (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstage
Shame he's gone ! he seemed to know what a good time was, a bottle of Vodka and a dance :-) Hope this link works !!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA-lal2MUKw
The flatties and I wanted a cool kids soft-glow portrait taken at one of the (historically) ubiquitous Pixiefoto stores in the Warehouse.
Maybe you have discuss about this before, but I've been so busy lately that I've been Off.
What do you think about beatboxing? I was watching a docu and they are really skilful
It's a cover of 'Rapture', and it's really bloody cool and I saw it on C4 sometime recently, probably on 'Watch This Space' but not tonight. So if someone could tell me, that'd be rad. Chur!
So Garth George wrote an article in today's Herald saying that global warming is "rubbish".
Hey (Welly-based) NZMers! You think you're tough? You think you're awesome? You think you can beat other people from the interweb at bowling? Well I'm issuing you a challenge on behalf of the Wellingtonista: form a team. Take us on. I dare you...

the last compression topic was more related to mixing and mastering and what not. anyway I was wondering about what gear you guys use (if you use compression) for playing, as in instrument-compression-amp... basically what compressors you'd recommend.
Did anyone else go to the premiere of this at the Embassy (or seen the movie at all)? Great movie, I just have to say I am very excited at seeing Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in person!

vampires/leeches/parasites/bludgers in the Blue corner of our Elected House wish to make Good Friday and Easter Sunday fair game for shop trading.
you know this is just going to fuck over Retail Workers.
get into our M.P'.s here, they might be voting on this piece of shit bill tomorrow and I for one will be furious if it passes.
http://shelfrespect.org/eastertrading
how many days do we need the shops open? bring back 6 day trading I say, instead of worrying about anti-smacking bill breaking up family a few noteables should be frothing at this.
in the good old days if you were not sorted by 4 oclock Friday , try again Monday. Civilzation certainly didn't crumble because I couldn't buy paint.
The background is very white - my eyes !
Hey hey. I've got no idea of what would be good amp & speakers for playing synthesiser. I'd be playing more than just piano / organ / string sounds. I'd be playing like really high pitch and also low pitch. Don't have a clue as to where to start looking for info on what amp & speakers to get. I'll be using for parties / bars / clubs.
the band I'm about to recommend aren't kiwi, but this place has been rather quiet of late, so thought I'd give people something to listen to. I don't normally plug bands that have been in the studio as such, but these guys were in for a couple of weeks, and I liked what they were doing, they're from California .... velocity, keep an ear out for these guys in the US I think they'll be a slow burner so may take awhile to hear anything they've done here ... that said what with the fickle way of the music world you maynot hear of them other than this post ... the songs on their myspace site are not the completed ones they did here but they give an small idea of what they're about .. astronaut is one of my faves ... hope link works ...
I just realised that the colder it gets, the happier I am.
This is due to lovely bands passing through more frequently.
And my love for NZmusic.com grows anew, much like the fire in the hearths of NZ, or like those $2 shop dinosaurs that expand to outrageous proportions when soaked in water.
Good times indeed
In the NZ Music Production...views from a US producer thread in the New Zealand Music forum, I read the following statements: "over compressed guitars"... "too much compression"... "u can hear the compressors pumping".
Pardon my ignorance, but can someone explain to me what compression is, and why it's bad to have a lot of it?
Thanks in advance.
So a debate has sprung up amongst some collegues of mine regarding the saying "Guted" As in, 'Gutted! I have no cash for beer this weekend."
So folk say the word is as I think Gutted others asure me its Guttered.
Ideas/thoughts
Nice to see that you are getting some recognition for what you do, Joanna. Regardless of how I view you personally, I do enjoy reading Hubris from time to time. You're a good writer.
okay this has been bugging me for a while. theres an ad on tv for vodafone or nokia or something like that where a girl is sitting on the toilet and her phone starts to ring. anyway for some reason she has to pick up her phone without using her hands.
did i miss something? is she sitting on her hands? did she pee on her hands? is this common practise?
alright I can't actually bring myself to visit the site in question so i only know what I read in the Press , seen on 3 and heard on the Radio but have we , as a Nation, really got to this?
what an appalling indictment on society. I'm sceptical of widespread kidnapping by the MSD, I'm more concerned about their chronic underfunding.
No doubt theres incompetent staff their , It is after a workplace like any other, the issue must surely be with the situations that get them involved in the first place. I don't wish to be mean-spirited but in my experience there is way more children in dreadful home situations than actual help available.
It is ongoing and will actually take a major shift of society's priorities to improve
I'm sure the much missed AKA could talk about this. I've not had that much to do with CYPFS but what I have certainly wouldn't warrant this sort of thing going on.
Ok, these forums have been killed by myspace.. anywho.. heres something that might liven up things. Helps if you've got broadband but instant kiwi has a got a fun exploitable flash 'game'

I reckon she was killed with a speedball.
She is too useful dead to too many people!
Your Chance To Challenge Big Brother 'Road Pricing'
'Sarah Kennedy (BBC Radio 2) was on about this proposed car tax scheme on the radio, there is only one month left to register your objection to the 'Pay as you go' road tax. The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it.
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.
On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.
If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible. Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.'
put your name forward to big brother here: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/
you better believe there is some fierce compotition for this award , as partially donated/created by my former boss Ms Jan Cameron.
Just take a look at the Paragons of Virtue on our "Top20" list of living (I asked for proof , nongiven) New Zealanders, and you'll soon see what I mean. Johnathon Hunt for one must surely be cooking up some scheme to lift his profile, he may have the Taxi-Drivers vote but I'm not sure wine growers will be able to agree.
anyway , lets hear your suggestions for you should be in line for this sort of Prestige. I'm sort of hoping John Minto but then I remembered it's mainly about supporting the current hierarchay ,making sackloads of $$$ whilst masquerading a semblance of a social conscience whist calling yourself a MFing role model.
So, today, for some reason, I had been thinking about giving away money to help someone less fortunate out. I'm lucky enough, here in NZ, to have enough to pay the bills, plus some for saving, some for entertainment, and then a little more. I have been giving to Greenpeace for a while now, and that's cool, but today I clicked on a link through to World Vision's website. I have sponsored a little boy from India, 7 years old. I feel great about it, to know that I am doing just a tiny little bit in the grand scheme of things, but its enough to completely change the life of this person in a place I have never even been before.
Then I thought, why not sponsor more kids? Why stop at one? There is a long list of children that World Vision are finding sponsors for at the moment, so eventually, no matter how many I wanted to sponsor, I'd have to stop.
BUT I figured maybe some of you might be inspired to completely change a child's life, so I've posted the link below. For the cost of 3 cups of coffee a week, this little boy is going to have opportunities available to him that he would not have otherwise had. I have changed the world a little bit today, and so can you.
