Yeap, we're still working on it. Actually, since it's not winter any more we'll be getting another wardrobe. It looks really cool. See you in the summer!

Welcome to http://www.thedemopage.com and for those of you just wondering who and what we are, we are a site still in developement and are here to provide free resources. There is a lot going on and hopefully the site will prove to be invaluble to many people including unsigned artists.

Or that was the original twist on the site. Over the last few months, developement on the site has taken a new turn with new functionality added and this has made the site more diverse.

And in order to take advantage of the funtionality you will need to create an account (which is free, you will not receive any spam emails and all emails are stored privately and not distributed.).

Once registered, you will get access to the following.

  • Image Galleries
  • - Free unlimited galleries with unlimited photos so you can share your photos and videos.

  • Audio Libraries

You can even email it. This tool also means that people don't have to visit your webpage now as it contains all information you upload and is kept uptodate automatically.
You can even put it on a cd and provided you have link to the internet this will show your stuff.

    NZ made Jansen guitars

Recently I came across the strangest acoustic-electric "Jansen" guitar in a Baghdad bazaar and had to buy it...at USD $30, who could resist? It's a curious Ovation/Applause knock-off, and other than the cheap plastic soundhole rosette, the other bits...bridge, fretboard, neck, machine heads, etc...are not bad quality at all. Installed a set of d'Addario extra-light phosphor-bronze strings and now she sings like an orgasmic angel!

I'm thinking some Chinese guitar maker just skimmed some extra parts from their licensed brand-name inventory for the thing and then slapped the defunct Jansen name on it, using the company's recognizable name without any risk of legal action. There's no way it could be a Jansen--the Ovation style debuted long after Jansen broke up, yeah? What do you think fellas? Photos available upon request. The serial number is MFG9710EQ/BK.

    Music Video History

    Hey
does anyone know what the very first nz music video was on MySpace?

    NZ made Jansen guitars

    Hi.
My son was recently given a Jansen Jazzman - it has cleaned up nicely and seems to be very original except for 3 added pick-up switches which I thought were original until I looked under the pickguard and saw the extra routing - from the limited info on the web I would guess at about 1963-64 as it came with a 1962 Jaguar style Simpson string damper - it has the original Simpson whammy and Kluson Deluxe tuners with pre-1964 script - I am happy to send photos - I would like to know if the pick-up adjusters originally had springs because this one has little rubber pads on neck (black and probably replacements) the old bunsen burner tube red rubber on the middle and nothing on the bridge which was wound right up to stop it rattling -it sounds very nice and the original pick-up toggle switch givers the switched pick-up extra grunt.
    Cheers

    New Aimee Allen

You may have heard her previous albums, or contribution to the Hairspray soundtrack, but Aimee Allen is coming back with her most original and fresh CD to date, A Little Happiness. I had the opportunity to listen to the CD before its release, only to be impressed by Allen’s serene melodies and giddy lyrics. While Allen still stays true to her Cobain inspired roots, covering Sublime’s “Santeria” and at times letting her rock infused voice ring out, she juxtaposes those rock influences with simpler and more beautiful sounds and tones. With A little Happiness, which is being released July 21st, Allen transitions to more of a Mraz-esque direction, one that suits her well. If you’re looking for a nice light hearted summer album, check Allen out, and tell me what you think!

observation - media sum up (well, sums up the media)

David Bain is convicted of murder goes to jail for 13 yeats.

Popular media stories portray David Bain as wrongly convicted, after case is quashed by privy council David Bain becomes a popular (well not quite media darling) figure to some extent... at least plenty of media people were eager to wipe his arse for him.

New case is brought forward by the crown, millions wasted in a trail that had already been decided prior to going to court. David Bain is found not guilty to the excitement of the media who ooze glee at the result and with in days start there 'was David Bain really a killer campaign'...

David Bain in prison = innocent wrongly imprisoned man.
Innocent David Bain = Really did it.

Aren't we awesome.... I just felt like having a rant...

why does nzonair give more than one grant per artist?

    To put things very simply. If you have two students, and one is significantly better than the other, but you give all props and resources to the worse student;

1 the better student is going to start questioning their own judgement

    2 they will give up

Putting the promotion of nationalism and political interference ahead of the nurturing of talent will promote nationalism and a stronger sense of political identity.

Within the competitive environment. Will introducing a greater number of lesser accolades enhance the race for the top prize?

    perhaps.

    depending on the assessment criteria.

If the criteria to win lesser accolades conflicts with the criteria to achieve the highest accolade, will the competition be enhanced?

If a government is willing to introduce policy to interfere with a cultural field regardless of the tastes of the majority at the time of introduction. Then what are the underlying motives?

Why do we want to see more of New Zealand on Air?

If New Zealand on air was established to overcome the cultural cringe, is the underlying psychological 'cringe' condition in anyway related to the inability of certain NZOA members to consistently select music featuring the New Zealand accent?

Should NZOA panelists be tested for the cringe and If they suffer from the cringe, should they be disbarred?

Has anybody heard the CD mentioned in Stereophile by Michael Fremer?

yep- its good alright- but vinyl still shits all over it

Has anybody heard the CD mentioned in Stereophile by Michael Fremer?

Michael Fremer is reviewing the Musical Fidelity Titan power amp (1000W, $30,000) in current issue of Stereophile. He says Antony Michaelson (Musical Fidelity boss) brought along a CD (TPRCD1 from Tone-Pearls Records). He also describes how it was made and how it sounds played on the dCS Scarlatti stack and says it's as fine a piano recording as he's heard on CD.

Has anybody heard the CD? Is it really so fine?

    Venues and shows in NZ

I'm travelling to NZ in July and August from Europe and really want to see shows while I'm there. I'm into a lot of music but indie describes me best.
Which shows and venues should I look out for? I've found MGMT in Auckland, but it was sold out. Damn. Any chance of still getting tickets??
    I would appreciate any recommendations

    Obama?

Obama - plenty of style, not much substance. Obsessed with the teleprompter, FOB (friend of Bills...i.e., Bill Ayers). Byproduct of the Chicago machine politics.
