I run a recording studio in Manukau City, Auckland and am fairly new I guess to the whole music scene from a studio point of view, only running 2 years. However, having been involved in a band prior and being raised around music, we understand exactly how hard it is for new artists in NZ trying to get out there and get heard. Studio's unfortunately can only do so much.
Where can you make a difference?
If you are doin it on your own - funding your own albums and finding hard to get contracts etc with labels, you often worry about how you will make it. Anything a studio can do, you can do! They apply for funding just like you can. You don't have to be under a label to get funding so just apply!

We have recently created a website (not flash because I built it myself and I'm not great when it comes to computers!) and have designed a place for NZ artists to get their band out there. You won't find anything like this with any other studio sites. You don't have to have done your recordings with us or be under our record label.

The benefits is that you will be able to network with other bands that have placed ads in there and this should help you arrange your tours throughout NZ. For eg: If you have a ROCK band and you stay in Wellington, you can check out other artists in the northern region with the same genre, see where they gig, where the best crouds are for ROCK music and get the contact details of those venues from other artists and vice versa. We are not sure how well this is going to work, but it's worth a shot. Its all about getting NZ music out there. As the website is new, there wont be alot of networking going on until we get the numbers in there with their details.
