Okay regardless of what you think of the program or the potential evil some people proclaim it to have unleashed on the world... I have struck a problem and need a little help (after failing google and finding the help index to much hassle).
Anyway, for some reason when I hit record its decided it wants to record all tracks, eg: I'll be recording a guitar track on track two, but track two will not only record the guitar but the drum track from track 1 (you may see how this would be annoying for me). The odd thing is earlier this afternoon it was working fine (not doing the double recording thing) so I figured I must have clicked something to cause this but have no idea what. Anyone else had this problem and/or know the solution? Thanks.

Check that the record input on the windows recording mixer is set to the right thing - if it's set to Wave it will do what you describe
- You can get to it from the Options menu
Think that should work.
Its either exactly what 'mindvandal' described or a hard wiring issue, also check out your audio hardware setup menu to make sure the channels and drivers etc are set correctly.
Failing that download Adobe Audition 1.5 whaich I think is free, Adobe bought out Cool Edit back in the days, I use Audition 3.0 occassionally which is a great stable program which runs directX plugins.

Cheers guys.
I'm seriously considering moving onto Cubase (is 5 or 6 they're up to now). Was in a studio recently where they used that (cheaper than ProTools y'know), and it looks pretty similar style to Cool Edit, but obviously better - multiple takes per track, VST plugins etc.
Anyone using Cubase that wants to offer an opinion?
cheers guys.

I'm trained on pro tools. Find something you like and works for you. That's the key.
Cubase is very good. I have used cool edit before and I find cubase far more versatile. It's worth heaps though if you were to buy the latest verion (I think v.4 or 5 now). You can pick up sx3 now the outdated verion cheap. Also cubase doesnt throw a hissy at reason and vst synths and such, and has very good midi editing capabilities. Cakewalk sonar is nice as well.
