anyone got comments on the big day out?
i thought the whole thing was pretty average. i didn't really enjoy any of the bands, and the highlight for me was probably the $6 icecream (mmmm, strawberry...)
i got there in the afternoon and saw a couple of bands at the local produce stage. it was actually nice to hang out there cos it wasn't very full. the electric confectionaires were alright in a cute sorta "north shore" way, and motocade were alright as well. the thing that struck me most about motocade was how crappy the bassist was. spose thats not the best thing to remember about a band! (oh, that, and that the guitarist was totally porno)
at 4:45 i went to the green stage to see battles, only to have my ears raped by "the nightwatchman". sounds like: staind covering bob dylan. he even tried to pull out dirty deeds. wtf. and when i asked a security guard where battles were at, he points at the stage and says "that guy must be battles". LOL
watched the last few bands on the main stages from the stands. this wouldve been a nicer experience had the people in the stands above us not been pouring beer and vodka on us all night. shihad were (as always) a great live act, but other than the big hits, all the songs came off a bit samey. bjork was fun to watch, but felt weird on a main stage sandwiched between two rock acts. i think it could've been better in the boiler room.
ratm were good but overall i think i enjoyed the crowd reaction more than the actual band. after that i was intending on staying for supergroove, but when i got there i couldn't see anything or hear very well so we just left.
i might skip next years bdo, i think i'm getting too old and cranky for it. i'll go if hanson play though!

i loved bjerks antics at the airport- she must be getting so desperate- poor thing keeps sending me her cds- must so want to be a part of my collection- i keep sending them back of course- cant be seen to own something sung by a woman whos name sounds like a chicken clucking- plus i cant stand 4 of the 5 notes she sings
& the shocking pinks- i- i
& the shocking pinks- i- i just dont know what to say- james from lcd thanked nz for them- but knowing him the only reason theyre labelmates is so everyone else on dfa sounds really great & really original- i just feel real bad for wotsisname- you know- the singerguy with the hair all brutally slicked forward
& as for holly & nathan- o my god- lets not even go into that embarrassment

i had a nice day, but lets focus on the negatives...
my favorite band of the day was mostly Unkle live. wow hugemoungus sound that hit your insides before your ears.
why did carl cock get wheeled out yet AGAIN? why did he have the closing slot in teh boiler room insted of LCD soundsystem? i think the schedule makers are tied up with ZM or something.
Bjork is terrible outside and the RATM fans were even more terrible towards her. I'd put her on teh lilly pad. heh
Shihad probably had their biggest BDO they've ever had. probably should have been in Bjorks spot. probably
TPF were drinking Steiny Pure while i was drinking plastic bottled Lion Red. They were nice outside it felt like a back yard gig.
Spoon were lost in the RATM of it all. Organisagtioans againn boo.
Arcade Fire are so choice man.
Pluto need to revise their arena rock set list, they have the arseinhole of tunes but played the wrong ones again. nice pink clothes too bro. errr.
The Bleeders were fucking cool on the main stage. well done, awesome.
Tiki-shifter is something i still need to get my head around. It's a bit of a mash up. er i dunno.
i decided to watch RATM insted of LCD i figured which one would i most likely be able to see again live. Like Prozaco said, the crowd reaction was crazy. never have i ever seen the whole field and 3 grandstands full and moving like that before. there was moshing on the grandstands ffs! amazing sight to see indeed.
oh yeah who was that band
oh yeah who was that band after TPF? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11?

I was in fact crying when reading some of this
worse is I actually like and or agree with a lot of the manifesto
its the "property of Sony Records" bit that sort of causes me to pause
also no Feyerabend in the book section
this is unacceptable if we wish to spout pseudo Marxist -Anarchist
My highlights: Rage Against
My highlights:
Rage Against The Machine - very high energy, what you'd except, its like they never broke up, the mosh pit was insane. Zakk did a anti Bush/US Government speech, which everyone seemed agreed to.
Shihad - Great as always, they got stopped after their first song cos dickheads were trying to get into the D barrier and just causing trouble, band started again about 5 mins later. New songs were alright, one ballady song. They played one song off Churn 'Screwtop' which was cool. Another crazy mosh.
Supergroove - My favourite band when I was young, they played pretty much the same set they did in christchurch, plus 2 of Che Fu's own songs 'Fade Away' & 'Chains', which was alright, cos they gave them more of Supergroove feel.
Grinspoon - 3rd time seeing them, last time I saw them I thought they were boring and had lost their spark. But this time they stepped up and rock out, perhaps cos the singer was drunk? I don't know, but it was cool lol.
Die! Die! Die! - First time they've ever played the main stage, you could tell Andrew was having a blast, smile on his face a lot, jumping into the ground, and throwing his guitar up in the air at the end. I talked to both Andrew & Mikey after, both guys had a blast playing.
Cut Off Your Hands - I liked this band, they had good energy and put on a good show, cool.
Battle Circus - I've been wanting to see this band since I heard the song 'Send in the Clones' a few years ago, they kinda like a heavy Muse. Only problem is their set was tooo short, I think they might have played for maybe 15-20mins, cool anyway.
Think they were my favourites, Anti-Flag were quite entertaining too, I just didn't really get their love thy neighbour attitude, it just got a little bit annoying after a while. They were the reason I didn't see the Bleeders, I thought what the point if I've seen them? and what I heard of Opshop, was meh, boring
Oh yeah the Nightwatchman, I've heard Tom's solo stuff from the Axis Of Justice cd/dvd, not fan, but I got told Serj from SOAD came out like he did for Tool last year, that would have been cool to see
I think that sounded like a
I think that sounded like a too postive review, like I was 14yr old lol.
Also, fuck you guys that form circle pits!! they are just gay, and it always some stupid skinhead in it trying to show off how tough he is, this happened with Anti-Flag, Grinspoon, Shihad, Ratm, and probably others.
highlights were dizzee
